Buried Treasure Event Guide
The Dwarves of Ered Luin have discovered a field of buried treasures and people are rushing to the region to test their luck at digging up rare finds! The Buried Treasure event is a semi-regular event in The Lord of the Rings Online that gives you an opportunity to join in the search for buried treasure!
Getting Started:
When the Buried Treasure event is active on a game world you will see a quest in your Quest Actions Available UI called “The Hunt for Buried Treasure!” Accepting and completing this quest will award you with a Map to the Treasure Field, which will allow you to travel directly to the location of the event. You can also travel to the Treasure Field Base Camp in the North-central region of Ered Luin (18.6 S, 98.1 W) by speaking with a Festival Announcer Stable-master in Bree, Celondim, Michel Delving, and Thorin’s Gate.
Once you arrive, speak with the NPC Aldúlf to acquire the Introductory quest called “Treasure Hunt”. Completing this quest awards you with Treasure-hunter’s picks, a Trained Cave-claw Cage, and a Dowsing Gem. Place these items into a hot bar when it’s time to go digging for Buried Treasure:
- Trained Cave-claw Cage: Using this item summons a Trained Cave-claw to sniff out treasure and guide you to the largest Dig-site within 20 meters of your position.
- Dowsing Gem: Selecting a Dig Site and using this Gem gives you an indication of what kind of treasure is buried at the site. A “very weak” reading indicates a Small Dig-site, a “slight reading” indicates a Medium Dig-site, a “strong reading” indicates a Large Dig-site, and a “very strong reading” indicates a Huge Dig-site. The bigger the Dig-site, the bigger the treasure! You can use these Gems to decide where to best dig with your Treasure Hunter’s Picks.
- Treasure Hunter’s Picks: This is a consumable item that allows you to dig at a Dig-site.
Additional Cave-claws, Dowsing Gems, and Treasure Hunter’s Picks can be acquired by completing Buried Treasure quests as well as in treasure from Dig-sites. Maps to the Treasure Field, Dowsing Gems and Trained Cave-claw Cages are also available to barter for your Buried Treasure Tokens with the vendor NPC Sigtír at the Treasure Field Base Camp. Treasure Hunter’s Picks are also available in the LOTRO Store.
Treasure Hunting:
The Treasure Hunt can be repeated every fifteen minutes, and the event begins and ends for everyone at the same time. Once a Treasure Hunt begins Dig-sites will appear in the area and participants will search until certain conditions are met or the round ends. The round will end once a Huge Dig-site is discovered, more than half of the Dig-sites have been dug, or if an hour has passed since the round began.
Digging at a Dig-site will award a certain amount of Buried Treasure Tokens based on the size of the site dug, and each Dig-site also has a chance to contain a Treasure Cache in Small, Medium, Large, and Huge sizes aligning to the size of the Dig-site. These Treasure Caches contain all sorts of awards, including special event awards not available from the reward vendor!
Berry Picking:
A Trained Cave-claw located near Aldúlf seems hungry, and you want to help! Accepting this quest sends you out to the Treasure Field looking for Berries, and completing this quest awards two Treasure Hunter’s Picks, a Trained Cave-claw Cage and a Dowsing Gem. This quest can also be repeated every fifteen minutes.
Rewards:
Find the NPC Marís at the Treasure Field Base Camp and exchange your Buried Treasure Tokens for numerous rewards! Rewards include housing items, cosmetic items, emotes, pets, and more! The Buried Treasure reward list also includes numerous rewards from the Hobnanigans event, including Recipes for crafters.
