The Signature Aurouchs in North Downs. As a warden I just grab as many as I can and EoB, War cry, goad. I can get 10 sturdy in a matter of seconds.

    Exceptional hides ...

    good place to farm is:

    1.5N 24.2W Gorothlad

start against the mtn wall and make a circular pattern sweep in a small area. Good tips btw.

The mobs are all signature but they drop 2 sturdy hides about 50% of the time and very rarely drop none at all. Since they are close together you have little down time running between mobs unless its going from one herd to the other. They also drop streaked horn and ragged tail crafting crit items so its well worth the trip.
I'm going to second the hoar-mantle aurochs for sturdy hides, but also recommend the spot east of esteldin just north of dol dinen -- there are two herds there that pop faster than I can kill them at 58.

Drauglad is positively HORRIBLE for pristines. I'd like to think that suggestion was a joke similar to the person saying farming the one lone named boar north of aughaire was a good idea. The wolves in Drauglad throw up wound effects and there's dread in the area, not to mention they're almost all stealthed. I spent about an hour there and ended up with 1/3 of the hides I get farming Tyrn Fornech east of Ost Forod in Evendim. Kill Deer and Bears.

If you are high enough the best place for Sturdy hides are the hoar mantles in esteledin there are two locations both sides of the hill. Best character for this Champion and Guard. or any other aoes.

I found lots of STURDY LEATHER just North of Esteldin. Lots of Hoar-Mantles that carry 2 pieces of leather!

Here's my farming holes for leather:

Sturdy - Aurochs east of Esteldin - about 100 in a half hour, if that long.
Pristine - Exit the east side of Ost Forod and head north. Kill everything in your path until you reach the boat. That netted me 80 in a half hour.
Exceptional and Magnificent - The goats in Eregion - Killing goats and the occasional wolf or cat net me 82 exceptional and 52 magnificent in 45 minutes. This time will go down when they are grey to me.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

I didn't read through all the posts so this may have been mentioned already, but I know that a good place to get Sturdy Hides is in the ruins that are just north of the Kings Bridge in Evendim. The area is Parth Aduial. You will get them from many wolves and many deer in this area and they are easy to find. If you are heading northward across the Kings Bridge and keep following the road you will pass through an area with ruins on both sides of the road, if you will just keep circling these two sets of ruins, all of your kills will have respawned by the time you make the loop so there is an endless supply as far as I can tell. You can pick up a lot of sashes from tomb raiders to trade for rep points during the process plus lots of other hides you can turn in for tasks or sell and get lots of moola for your time.

Haven't seen my favorite sturdy farming place mentioned yet - the ruins of Ost Durgonn - just east of The Last Bridge in Trollshaws, north of the road - lots of cave claws that all drop sturdy hides...

    Magnificent Hides --

Redhorn Goats in Eregion drop two each, on most occasions.

I'm still looking for a better place to find exceptional hides with all speed and fury better than those listed here, so please pass on information and help everyone.

Tál Caradhras in Eregion isn't bad for random wildlife with regards to exceptional hides, but I'm still looking for something that drops them two at a time so I can hand them off to new players. if anyone knows a better and faster place at 65, please share.
Helping new players is integral to the community and hide hunting areas are one of the few areas that are still silent.

I'd like to abolish the silence and relate universally to the community as a whole, whether someone plays on my server or another.

    ...and now I've found it.

Forochel - Southwest of Voi-teltta in Itä-Mâ around 9.0 N 72.0 W. There are a bunch of snowmantle cows with a fast respawn rate there that drop 1 to 2 exceptional hides at a time.

They're signature with about 3,600 morale, and if you tackle the group of four cows, they WILL all attack you at once, so expect to be stunned.

Favorite place for pristines is in the misty mountains. The Wargs and Aurochs around the pond in Eastern Bruinen Source, North of Whitecleft, west of the North High Pass. You can work on your warg deed at the same time. Aurochs drop 2 hides quite often. Great place for a hunter to sit and shoot targets. Kill a few goblins when you get bored, or still need pages for your lvl 39 books.

For Sturdy hides, I vote for the aurochs on Gatson's farm in Kingsfell. 2 hides a peice. Take a level 50+ champ and blow them all up at once. 100-200 in less than 20 minutes.

For Pristines, there is a valley to the east of Ost Forod which is a big 'ole circle of bears. Again, take a champ in 30-40mins you should have 100-200 pristine hides.

For exceptional I like thee repeatable areas where the snow-cats live in Forochel. Sorry I dont know the name but it is outside of Pynti-Pledot.

Having two SM Tailors, and one Kindred I can tell you that these have been the best areas for me.

These are the areas I hit up for those two types of hides. It never takes long to stack up the hides in those two places. I still remember when I took my mid-40s minstrel to Kingsfell for some hides and was rather impressed with myself when I cleared all the aurochs from one side of the hill with none having time to respawn. Those poor aurochs never stood a chance. However, their hides definitely went to serve a good purpose.

Medium hides I usually make a beeline for the bear den near the Hillshire ruins in Breeland. Even with a level 55 hunter they respawn faster than I can kill them all.

I'll have to check out a couple of places for exceptional hides. I have yet to find a good place for them although my current place is near Echad Eregion where all the lynx and boars like to congregate. However, it's nowhere near as good for hides as the other places.

For magnificent and extraordinary hides, I have no clue. I just kill and skin everything in Moria. Too bad goblin and orc hides are useless; otherwise I'd be the richest person in Middle Earth.

Light hides I don't really care about currently. I end up with a ton of them from killing everything after leaving the original starter area and other than leveling up forester and tailor I don't find they are of any real use. I always level up through those levels so fast that it's not worth it to make any armor for my characters to use. Considering my tailor always has at least 100 pieces of light leather in the vault and never uses any of it, I'm not too concerned about light hides.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

after trying all previous suggestions (Sarnur was a mistake xD), here's what I found worked best for me so far:

Light hides - Wolf den east of Combe in Bree-land (Chetwood North)

Medium - Bears in Hillshire Ruins west of Southern Bree-fields

Sturdy - There's a hotspot for hoar-mantles, which drop 2 hides most of the time, in Nan Amlug, east of Esteldin in the North Downs. Plenty of wargs there too.

Pristine - I like to use the bear den right outside Thorenhad in Trollshaws.

Exceptional/Magnificent - Bears right outside Suri-kyla in Forochel drop Exceptional, however you can knock out both of these tiers in Eregion with goats that drop 2 each (sometimes), and other animals. lvl 50 and under = Exceptional, lvl 51+ = Magnificent. However, for magnificent, if you wish to journey into Moria, I have found Katub-zahar, a library with a bunch of deep-claws to be great. It is North-east of Dolven-view in The Great Delving.

    Good luck tailors!

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

I have decided to go through all the areas suggested for exceptional hides, and to share my findings with everyone. Am actually wondering if a new thread should be started about this, with all current best farming areas on the first page, so people dont need to read through 3 pages to find up to date info.

Any input will be appreciated - I am willing to try out any area that you guys might suggest. I wont bother with light, medium and sturdy though. No need for the first 2, and for sturdy, I highly doubt anything can beat the aurochs north of esteldin - 100 hides in 15-20 mins. Plus the occasional bleakwind spawn

I have just done about an hour looking around maethad for good cave claws spots. Couldn't find the cave mentioned a few times in this thread, but I did spent 30 mins in Dolroth. Got 84 hides. Not too bad an output, but I hated it. First off, its linear, so once you reach the end of the cave, you need to walk back till you get respawns. Secondly, the diggers sometimes manage to burrow, a huge waste of time. Thirdly, they have a -run speed wound. Nothing as bad as wolves and wargs, but still a time waster. And lastly, they make the most annoying sounds.

Oh yeah, that being said, do not bother suggesting that I go hunt any areas with wolves and wargs. Being slowed every 2 kills defeats the purpose of quick and efficient farming.

Going out to try forochel suggestions next. Saber-tooth forest, and auroch cows.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

Can someone tell me where there is a good place to farm extraordinary hides? The only place that I've found so far that matches the respawn rate of the library in Moria, where you can get magnificent hides, is the Black Dens in Enedwaith. The only problem with that area is those 3 elite Shadow of The Eye mobs that wander around. Where is a relatively confined area, with lots of beasties, and high respawning that my hunter can farm without having to worry about getting mobbed by elites?

here's a pretty good guide on hide farming, courtesy of mmorsel: Where to Farm Hides (Page 3).

    I'll bother anyway

The ruins in the northeasternmost corner of the Misty Mountains, east of Goblintown, are packed full with wargs which drop exceptional hides. Yes, they slow you, but their population is so dense that it doesn't really matter. You don't even have to cover the whole way til the top, but can go in circles in the lower part of that area, their respawn is fast enough. And even better, there's a warg slayer deed in MM as well

Can someone tell me where there is a good place to farm extraordinary hides?
Zirakzigil. The mobs there are on the lower end of the possible level range, and though there's not so many of them, their respawn rate is decent.
