Drauglad is the place for pristine. Sarnur isn't bad for exceptional.

Light Hide - Wolves den in Combe

Medium Hide - Bears in Old Forest, follow the river that runs through the old forest all the way to the west till it ends. nothing but bears that drop medium hide.

Sturdy hide - Wargs den in Nam Amlug in North Downs, just southeast of the entrance to Angmar.

Pristine hide - Cave claws in Maethad, south of Gorothlad, in Angmar. There's an area with nothing but static spawns of cave claws.

Exceptional hide - it was Isendeep if the Freeps have control but it's still dangerous because creeps still go in after gold farmers. I would say Sarnur now is the 2nd best if you don't want to risk it in Isendeep.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

Light - wolf den, Combe area (North of the lumber yard)

Medium - wolf den, Northern Breeland. Couple corpses spawn in the area, too, so you can get some extra junk to sell while farming hides

Sturdy - around Orthrikar you'll find lynx and bear; the lynx are easy to kill and have a good drop rate for sturdy hide. I prefer this location to the warg den cited by the previous poster since you aren't going to be repeatedly wounded or filled with dread (due to wolf howl) like you are with the wargs.

Pristine - I like the area (boars) just North of Aughaire.

Exceptional - Definitely go with with Sarnur. Spawns are really predictable.

I'd go with this...with the exception of the pristine hides dropping in Draulag and medium in sawtooth's area...

The Gorothlad Cave Claws are dropping Exceptional hides, as are the the Lvl 44+ Bears in the Misty Mountains(Giant Halls). But Sarnur is defenitly second best for Exception hide gathering, with the added benefit of some good drops from the dwarfs.

I have farmed so many cave claws that I had to take off my headphones, they make the most annoying sound in this game.

Pristine-I would say the wolf den in the Trollshaws, or the Snowy Lynx in the Misty's

If you have a group, turtles in Malenhad drop Exceptional. Plus you get bonus Lethal Sharp claws.

Doh, sorry, I think I meant the cave claws in Maethad, just south of Gorothlad.

Are you talking abou the Cave Claw nest near the Drakes(also near the seven sentinals temple)? If you are, those cave claws drop the exceptional hides there too. The only other cave claws I know of in Angmar are in Nan Guruth(Exceptional Hides), and Ram Duath(Pristine Hides).

The cave claws near the drakes and the seven sentinals are the ones in Nan Gurth, which like you said drop Exceptional hides. Those are not the ones I'm talking about.

From the dwarf settlement in Eastern Malenhad, you head north a short way and you'll pass an Orc settlement. Right after that settlement, head east a bit and you'll see a bunch of cave claws before you run into elite trolls.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

There's a nest of cave claws near the western entrance to the Maethad. There are a few of them in the valley north of there as well, but not concentrated. These are all level 46 or so. The ones in the valley east of the Fane of the Seven Sentinels are about the same level, so that should be a good place. The ones in Nan Gurth are all level 50-51.

Yes...those all drop exceptional hides, and they are Lvl 46/47 Cave Claws, if you keep going east around the Arena(Elite Trolls) there is a whole nest of Cave Claws (20-30 spawns) that drop Exceptional Hides. That is still Gorothlad, Nan Guruth is west of BG and north of where I am speaking. There are also Drakes and Normal Spiders in the area but tons of Cave Claws. I think it's a safe bet to say if it's a Cave Claw and you are in East Angmar you'll be getitng an Exceptional Hide.

Quillan pointed it out exactly which ones I'm talking about. The cave claws near the western entrance to the Maethad. If these are the same ones you're talking about, they were dropping Pristines since I farmed them constantly to level my tailor. If they're dropping Exceptionals now (I haven't hunted them after bk10 patch), I'll need to go back more since I need exceptionals to gm tailor.

The best place to farm exceptionals was always Isendeep, but if they changed this cave claw nest to drop exceptionals, then it'll be my farming spot of choice since I can kill them non-stop. Basically, I can clear this lvl 46/47 cave claw nest and the first ones would start popping again so it's non-stop farming for my 50 hunter.

I'll have to check them out again later tonight after work.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

Must have been a stealth change since it wasn't listed in the patch notes but the lvl 46/47 cave claws at the western entrance to Maethad in Gorothlad now do drop exceptionals. Before the patch, they were dropping pristines. Now Isendeep is not the only place to farm exceptionals in good quantities

So, like Thalifea said, pretty much all cave claws in east angmar drop exceptionals!

This really was one of my favorite changes in the patch, I got to GM in just over two weeks(started with minimale proficency at master level). More people are catching onto this, but if you get it at the right time you could have about 30 cave claws to yourself for an hour or two. I think I managed to get 100 hides in just over an hour. Now that I am GM I haven't gone back though, I am taking a break from crafting except to gather hides to make some good armour for my hunter.

Also Barghests in Imlad Balcorth drop exceptionals, but they are much harder to farm with the signature wights roaming around.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

I was just wondering where exactly you are talking about. I went there to check it out and i did find a place with cave claws bunched together but id say theres only 10 maximum at once so i really wanted to know where the 20-30 place is.
I am just a little west of the M in Maethad right now, so im not sure where the place you are saying is.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

The entire ring around Maethad is now populated almost exclusively with Exceptional Hide-dropping mobs. All of the Cave Claws (Blade Beak Digger and Scythe) and the Scara Wargs (Rakeclaw and Pack Master(?)) drop Exceptional Hides. The only other beasties in that area are Warg-Keeper Goblins - and those are pretty uncommon. Killing the Wargs counts for the Determination trait (450 of those pups take a while though).

I think this is the best area for Exceptional Hides now.

    Re: Hide Farming Areas

Best place for farming sturdy hides if you are 50level in my opinion is the hoar-mantle aurochs just west of Esteldin in Kingsfell. There are two large herds on the east and south parts of the large hill south-east of the farms (where the auroch yearling escort mob is located). The mobs are all signature but they drop 2 sturdy hides about 50% of the time and very rarely drop none at all. Since they are close together you have little down time running between mobs unless its going from one herd to the other. They also drop streaked horn and ragged tail crafting crit items so its well worth the trip.

Its the wolf den in Trollshaws just west of Tal Bruinen. Wolves are level 36-37 or so normals.

For exeptional hide just about everywhere in Forochel west of Kauppa-khota. I usually farm the entrance to Suri (Bears).
