    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

There are two locations lotro that i have found lotro use for music.
One is the folder in documents or my documents depending on vista/xp.
There it is documents/lord of the rings online/music/musicfilegoeshere.abc.
My partner had some mxiup on here pc and for reason her program looks in
    program files/turbine/lord of the.../music/musicfilegoeshere.abc.

I havent tested this last idea but it might work if the others dont.
I suggest you save a screenshot from the game and then go hunt it down on your drive with search. Wherever the screenshot is found, make a music folder in that directory.

Also make sure your files are .abc and not .txt or lotro wont see them.

    Question Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble playing my files. It says in my music folder for lotro, that it is an ABC File, but on the game it won't play. I couldn't get the abc format to come out, so i saved it directly from lotro-music.com to All Files. Could somebody help me with this problem plz?

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

Make sure you are saving them as .abc or if you are saving as .txt, make sure it is not saving in rich text. If your files are, for example, song1.txt - you can simply rename the file to song1.abc

    I hope this helps.

Looks like we got on forum bout the same time Stalarian!

Wolf, Also check that you have not save the files with 2 extentions. Make sure your Windows folder options does not have "hide file extensions for known files" checked. If it is, when you save a File with the name of song1.abc it will get saved as song1.abc.txt

This will also cause the problem you are haveing.

    Question Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

How do you know if it has a hidden extension? where will my computer show it?

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

    With Windows XP,

    From start menu,
    go to My Computer,
    go to Tools,
    Folder options,
    click on the 'view' tab,
under files and folders there will be a selection that reads "Hide extentions for known file types". Make sure it is NOT checked.
    then,
    click APPLY,
    and then OK.

Not possitive, but Vista should be similar.

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

I need help, i added this file and whenever i try to play it in game it says not too high line 55 columm 6. even after using Mid2Abc to transpose it down 12 semitones (i did that about 8 or 9 times so almost 120 semitones) it continues to say not too high and gives me a random line and columm. if anyone could make the appropriate changes to it for it to work i would appreciate it greatly. heres the file.

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

Here is the file as you gave it, but with offending notes changed.

However, this file will play in game, but the way it is, the game will play the first voice, (V:1), then play the second voice (V:2), in secession. The game wont play them tegeter like MidtoABC will.

I used Dignero's program to give you a file that will play both voices together in game. I havn't listen to it yet in game though so, I'm not sure what it sounds like.

First your files with the fixes,

Please be aware that this last file will play fine in game, but will not sound right if you play it through MidtoABC!
(although your corrected first file will sound fine using MidtoABC)

If your wondering, the notes that were to high were all the ones with " ' " attached to them. (c' d' e') LOTRO will play the c' if the file is in the key of C (K: C) but not in some of the other Keys, D for sure, I'm not sure of the other key's. But the d' e' are alway's to high. You also had some notes that were to low, any note with 2 commas after it will not play. C,, D,, E,, F,, G,, A,, B,, all are no good.

It's a lovely little song, what is it called? Also, unless it's supposed to be a dirge or something, I had to push time Q: up to 180 to get it to a decent tempo. Still slow and melodic but not draaaaaaaaaaaging like it did at 60 (or even 90).

    Shoot!

As I said, I hadn't had time to check it in game, but it realy should play. Make sure you didn't copt part of my reply at the end of the post by accident. I am on my way to work now, but will check this out when I get home. I see Ellerina was able to get it to play, so maybe She can help us out here.

I have a feeling you may have copied and pasted my "Please be aware that this last file will play fine in game," part of the message into the file by mistake, I have done this many times before, and have recieved that error message. But again, I will check this out later today.

I had no problems making it play with a simple cut and paste. I'm betting he did copy some words or something, it's my most common foul up when I do it. Which is why I like the code boxes. K.I.S.S. and all that.

Ha, here's an embarrassing share. I've been gone for so long from the game that I had to take a look at this to remember how to add .abc files into the game.

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

Could someone please tell me what is wrong with this .abc file? I have tried reformatting it many times but I always get the message "Expected a ':'. Line 1, column 2." I get similar messages on all my .abc files. The text of the file is:

    X: 1
    T:Si Bheag Si Mhor
    M:3/4
    L:1/8
    R:waltz
    Kmaj

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

I have this playing in game, sounds nice. The only changes I made, were to put a space after each colon in your header. I also had to add the colon and the D after the Key command, "K:" if you don't add the space and the song is in any key of D you will get the forum adding a smiling face there.
    Hope this helps!

    Code:
    X: 1
    T: Si Bheag Si Mhor
    M: 3/4
    L: 1/8
    R: waltz
    K: Dmaj

    Re: .ABC File Troubleshooting

I just started exploring the music system and followed the guide on playing the music in-game, but when I play it, all I hear is choppy or broken parts of the song. There is no error when I'm in music mode and "/play name". I do see the little music symbols flying on top of my character's head, however, the notes are missing and the song sounds choppy.

    Anyone with similar problems?

I experienced similar issues until I upgraded my system. It's probably a performance issue. Try dropping your graphics settings and see if it's any better.

It is not performance issue, The problem is one that a few have had, including myself. The fix is as follows,
    Go to options,
    Go to audio,
under sound features, there is a window for sound playback, yours will say something like

"generic hardware on (your sound card here)".

    Click drop down arrow,
You need to change it to "generic SOFTWARE on (your sound card here".

then click apply, and you should be good to go!

Good luck, let us know how you make out!
