What is the first sign of Winter approaching?

It must be when I get the Quest:*Yule Festival is Here!*
“Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay; Small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.” ~J.R.R. Tolkien

I start feeling the approach of impending wintery doom as soon as the Halloween items/costumes make their appearance.

The first sign of winter (enjoyable winter, anyway) is the first few frosts that drive away all the bugs. One can take a mug of mulled cider out by the campfire without being devoured by mosquito hordes.

The sun light is getting softer. The wind is getting chilly. Warm colorful lights invite to the houses. Evergreen garlands with beautiful glass ornaments have being hanged to the walls. The food shelves have being stocked with supplies to last all winter long.
