This may be what's happening to you: https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...e-Client-Issue. Try the 32 bit client or grab the latest Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes from the link there or search Microsoft's site for them. It seems that they moved to the latest Visual Studio.

Sorry, I'm not paying for VIP so that I have to fix the game myself. It's like paying for a mechanic to change my oil but being told I have to unscrew and replace the oil filter myself.

Something changed in graphics, Ive noticed game thinks my system do not support DX 10 or DX11. You probably had it set earlier.
Just go to options in launcher, Repair and check reset game display settings.

Did this solution work for you? I'm having the same or similar issue. I considered this as a last resort; guess I'll try it now as I'm out of leads from my other research on the web.

Update: Well, no, that did not work for me. Back to exploring other options, hoping to avoid reinstalling entire game.

Update 2: Okay, well, something else did seem to work for me. I followed the advice of Cordovan listed here -- https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...e-Client-Issue

More specifically, I followed his link and once there, clicked the link under "Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019" that says "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019", which takes you here -- https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/ .

Once there, look under Visual Studio 19, in the left hand column named "Community." Click the purple button labeled "Free Download." Run the file it downloads, named vs_community__1795104839.16035 19665.

    Install Guide:
    1. Once it loads, it should show you four tabs at the top, specifically, "Workloads," "Individual Components," "Language Packs," and Installation Locations."
    2. Leave Workloads highlighted (underlined) and find the two sections, side by side, under Gaming. You want to choose the one on the right labeled "Game development with C++." Click in the small white box in the upper right corner of that choice.
    3. Now, before clicking install, look to the right under Installation Details. You will see a short list of things that are included in what you clicked. Under that is a heading titled "Optional." I was able to uncheck the three items listed there with purple checkmarks, and my solution worked for me. It saved me 3 GB of space. If you're not worried about space, I suppose you can leave those checked; but I didn't try it that way.
    4. After finishing your choices, look in the bottom right corner of that page and you will see the "Install" button. Click Install. It should prompt you for a restart when it is done.

After rebooting the system, this allowed me to run Lotro from the 64 bit client and choose DX11 in options. I'm not sure if repairing the game files beforehand had any influence on this success, but I suspect not or Cordovan would have mentioned that as a prerequisite.

I hope this helps someone navigate the less than crystal clear waters of Microsoft's Studio pages. I apologize for the presentation of these instructions, as I'm typing this in the wee hours of the morning after I spent all the previous evening in trial and error trying to fix this and other issues that arose with the latest patch. Anyone is more than welcome to polish this rough guide with pictures or other visual helps. I hope everyone has a restful weekend, and I hope to see you in Middle Earth!
