That usually means there is a patch incoming, so, maybe one day this week.

There was also the great Northeastern snow storm Sunday to this morning.

This time around it is due to a snow storm over the past day or so, the office is basically shut down today (although people are still working from home and the like as best they can).

Is this to be interpreted as due to weather servers can't be restarted?

    Ludicrous.

You have ample remote possibilities to do just about anything digital remotely. Just set it up and do it.

I am sure they can quite happily restart the servers with everyone remote ... but if there were ISP problems (totally out of their control and lets be honest not unusual) in the bad weather they would be in the dark as to the status of the system, so personally I am happy they waited until they have people in the office before performing full system restarts

yup I am a 'home shored' system admin who is 5000 miles away from my systems but there are always 'hands and eyes' support at the Data Centers that I can contact if I lose direct comms with the machines.

Sure, technically possible, but an incredibly bad idea.

On the other thread, I posted that bad weather should not prevent GMs/customer service from performing their duties remotely, from home.

But for things like server restarts/maintenance, you 100% got to have techs physically on site, ready to handle problems in person.

Yes but you make it sound like they have their equipment in Boston, which they don’t, in a data center they run, which they don’t.

This may be getting a bit out of hand, but I would merely like to point out that in we / I /my employer don't host any servers anymore. They are in a VMWare based Farm 300 kilometers from our offices. No one ever goes there, the hosting company only keeps them running and act on critical failures. We do everything else, remotely, from our offices, from home, from vacation in Japan or Argentina. it doesn't matter. We only need a relatively stable connection from anywhere in the world to access 99.99% of anything we want. That is how it works today, that is how most companies work or should work today. It's efficient and accessible in so many ways.

and if there is an issue when the servers restart that cannot be dealt with remotely you will be one of the first to come here throwing your toys about not being able to get into the game. Would you then expect someone to drive out in the snowstorm to fix your game?

That's different than running an MMO. Even I know that.

It never ceases to amaze me how people that have never run an MMO before think they know better than the people that are running them. I'm not talking about the gameplay, I'm talking about the actual maintenance side.
