    8pm GMT (15:00 /servertime), 03/01/19
The Bird and Baby Inn, Michel Delving, The Shire

You are cordially invited to celebrate the Twelfthty Seventh (127th) anniversary of Professor JRR Tolkien’s birthday at the Bird and Baby Inn, Michel Delving, the Shire for a toast on the hour of 8PM GMT (15:00 /servertime) on Thursday 3rd January 2019. We’ll do the toast at 8pm GMT, so please arrive a little before, if possible!
We’ll raise a glass or mug to the Professor and then set off some fireworks in true Shire style. The wandering wizard Gandalf may not be available to attend! Fireworks, pipeweed and drinks can be provided! All enquiries to Ranatuor (the Elders Kinship). This is a social event, RP and non-RP, Kin and non-Kin, everyone is invited.

We are following the Tolkien Society guidelines on this toast, details are here: https://www.tolkiensociety.org/event...ay-toast-2019/

We had a fantastic turnout in 2017 (and 2018!) especially with it being the year of LOTRO’s 10th Anniversary and we had an extra special guest, SSG Community Manager Cordovan, who streamed the event live via the LOTRO Twitch feed! You can see some of that broadcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20Ffj1K7zXU

2019 also marks another grand occasion, the 50th anniversary of the Tolkien Society and in August 2019 they will be hosting a special celebration. Details can be found here:

    Some background information…

    Location
Baby and Bird Inn is the in-game (and Oxford students’) nickname of a real pub in Oxford, the Eagle and Child, where the Inklings, a literary discussion group, used to relax, debate and drink. The group was formed of professors and well-known authors, including JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis.

    Making the toast
    “To the Professor!”
    /say To the Professor
/toast emote (You can do “/toast To the Professor”)
/drink emote (You can do “/drink To the Professor”)
    Use a drink item

    Tolkien Drinking Song
Ho! Ho! Ho! To the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow,
And many miles be still to go
But under a tall tree I will lie,
And let the clouds go sailing by.
-- Fellowship of the Ring, chapter 4: A Short Cut to Mushrooms

LOTRO, SSG and the Tolkien Easter eggs
"But what if they simply flew in on giant eagles? No... that would never work...." – Ronald Dwale, Glass-blowers camp, Evendim.

As well as the Bird and Baby, several members of the Inklings are represented in LOTRO, as part of the Writing Club –
CS “Jack” Lews – NPC Jack Lewisdown
Owen Barfield – NPC Owen Farfield
Charles Williams – NPC Carlo Williams
JRR Tolkien – NPC Ronald Dwale

NPC Rabbit – nickname of the favoured back room of the Inklings in the Eagle and Child pub.

The main showing of this will be 8pm UK - to fit in with the Tolkien Society guidelines and also Laurelin being EU, I try not to run things too late for the bulk of players.

    However...

If there is enough people, I am willing to run it again later in the evening, as long as it isn't extremely late. I'm not in work till next Monday, so I am ok to provide a Tolkien Toast encore
