After the break; How are instances/raids now?

I will admit it right off...

...I am a Lifer (from original release) and I have to say it has been one of the best 100.00 I have spent.

One of the things I enjoyed about instances and raids was the fact that to be successful a fellow had to use all its abilities. CC was a huge deal and more than once a fight, hanging in the balance, was brought to a successful end by the timely use of a conjunction. Power management was a 'thing' and it added a bit of thought to every class as they fought. You could not use every skill as soon as the CD was done for the mere fact your power pool probably did not go that deep. So potions were a big deal and there was actually a market for food and drink as the bonuses were actually relevant.

...and every class was more different than alike in their abilities.

Then things seemed to become more homogenized and we got skill trees which limited class set-ups, but nothing that could not be adapted to.

Then instances and raids became what seemed to me nothing more than a DPS races. There was no need for CC or conjunctions or skin of your teeth power management. You learned the mob moves, stand here now and there later, and DPS'd through.

Real life intruded as it so often does and I have been away for a time, but I hear tell such things as CC are needed again and instances are not all about the DPS race any longer. Is there any truth to all this?

I will still play as one of the things I think that made and still make LOTRO unique is the playerbase and its social interactions. But if some of the old ways have come back, CC and conjunction use and power management, then I would be even happier on my return.

It depends on the instance and it depends on the boss. Raids usually put importance on CC/debuffing, but in 3-mans you might see less of that. Power management isn't much of a concern anymore. Some instance bosses are still DPS races, but many fights require controlled DPS where you need to stop and start depending on the mechanic.

I play a loremaster and I seldom need to use CC. It's useful in some cases, mostly raids, but 3 or 6 mans don't need it much. Landscape is mostly a faceroll but Mordor brought back some difficulty and CC is helpful there in the bigger enemy camps.

Power management is generally not a thing. Again, as a loremaster I seldom need to shoot power over to anyone, except hunters who do run out of power once in a while in long fights. In the Moors the weaver power drain can be a real problem though.

Conjunctions do not scale very well. Up to level 65 or so they still have a reasonable effect, above that not so much. At endgame I don't see anyone actually using conjunctions. You do more damage just attacking like normal than the conjunction will do.
