What Benefits Remain After Your Subscription Runs Out?

I have heard people repeatedly state that many of the premium features remain after losing a subscription. If so, what are these and is it considered alright to play this game without a subscription if you have had one in the past and are using the permanent features?

    Many Thanks!

What you get to keep after your VIP expires is:

    • All unlocked Trait slots (spec set bonuses, Race slots, Virtue slots) for all characters you logged into while you were a subscriber.
    • Any items you placed into the 20 Wardrobe slots you get for being VIP; you'll be able to keep them in there but you won't be able to place any additional items in or replace anything without purchasing additional slots.
    • The extra unlocked inventory slots (+30 I believe).
    • The VIP character portrait frame.
    • Any crafting guild progress you made while your subscription was active (you'll be able to finish Guild Reputation tiers you started, but won't gain access to new ones unless you purchase the unlock).
    • You'll be able to finish any (Slayer/Explorer) deeds currently in progress, but won't get any new ones you don't own the quest pack for.
    • Access to Swift Travel from Stable Masters.
    • Riding traits earned from the lvl20 VIP-only quest.

The value for going VIP for one month is pretty much unbeatable if you look at the LP cost of all the permanent unlocks combined. Just make sure to create and log into every character you want to play while your sub is active.

    Hope that helped!

What B749 said, but emphasize that those benefits will not apply to any characters which you create AFTER your sub runs out. Of course you can always sub for one month to gain them for new characters at any point in the future. Just make sure to log in all the new characters once while subbed. (If you have any thoughts of creating a new character in the future, like on a different server, go ahead and do so before your sub expires. Just need to enter game for 1 second and then log back out to unlock this stuff.)

Here's the official chart describing the benefits of VIP vs Premium vs Free. Since you have been a VIP, your account will be rated as Premium:

If you have purchased any expansions, like Moria, you will retain full access to that content.

It's perfectly alright to play without a subscription.

    Hope this helps and clarifies.

So after purchasing a subscription and then playing with all my characters, they will maintain some of the bonuses after it expires?

Also, is there any other way of unlocking Rune-Priest other than Lotro points (e.g. do you get it upon gaining a subscription and does your Runepriest character remain playable after subcription times out)?

    Many thanks!

You can get the Rune-Keeper by purchasing the Moria Expansion from either the ingame LOTRO store or the LOTRO Market, or by purchasing the Rune-keeper class separately from the store. Note that if you purchase the RK class separately and later decide to purchase Moria, you do NOT get a discounted price. Unfortunately subscribing does not unlock access to the locked classes or races.
The Moria Expansion will give you:

    • Two character slots per server (permanent unlock)
    • Access to the Rune-keeper class
    • Access to the Warden class

... in addition to the actual Moria content.

Additionally, if you purchase the expansion with real money or purchase LP with real money to unlock it on a F2P account, that account will be upgraded from F2P to Premium status.
