    Producer's Letter

Wasn't a Producer's Letter meant to be surfacing this week? I seem to remember this being mentioned in the anniversary stream. Thanks!

They heard you asking so they put it out now but anyway the letter looks good for the future, I like where we going and it will connect new areas with Lothlorien! hopefully not a port.

"Level cap increased to 120".....Please, please, please...say it isn't so!! *cries dramatically* I'm pretty sure I remember it being stated that there was no level increase coming in 2018, however upon trying to search for where that was written I could not find it. So either I heard it on Cord's livestream or I dreamt it, either way I was happy!

I really don't want a level increase, like really please no no no.

But since its already been decided all I can do is whinge and get over it. Dang it. -_-

I thought the exact same thing. I definitely remember hearing that there wouldn't be a new level cap in 2018 (thought it was in this post https://www.lotro.com/en/game/articl...ini-look-ahead but couldn't find it) and thought that was a good decision but oh well c'est la vie.

./sigh sometimes I really do miss the level 100 cap days, so many alts capped and geared...

I think they discovered that the essence system is a shot in the foot progression wise. If they continue to use it as they do now, they'll either have to release new armour with rising Item Levels, (Upsets people, the armour they worked for gets obsolete much quicker than expected) or choose not to release new essences (Upsets people, no new shinies to get making questing seem useless.) Since both of these options are less then ideal only one option remains, hitting the reset botton on the whole item level ordeal and increasing the level cap. Unless SSG decided to drastically change the essence structure from 23 onwards I think it's safe to assume that we'll see a level cap increase every year. Summer 2016, Summer 2017 and now summer 2018.
    The road goes ever on.

In my browser the forum page with the letter is missaligned, I only can to see the right border of the text and the rest of the screen is black, any other person with the same problem?

The letter sounds great, except for the level cap increase. Please reconsider, there are already too many levels in this game....

Have no fear! I'm sure they will add something to the cash shop to level you up for just three easy payments of $39.95! : D

    Or something like that.

I don't mind a level increase so much. I do think there are too many levels in this game, but I'm nowhere near cap anyway so what's 5 levels more?

But, it is more daunting for new players (which they know, which is why they sell levels in the cash shop now). In before we hit level 200! : D

One level cap increase per year is not unreasonable

Gotta say I like what I'm hearing, except for the level increase, I'm not too excited about that. It's bad enough grinding new LIs from scratch as it is, and it seems it's just going to keep getting worse. Though I now feel much less of a need to work on bettering my current gear much more than it already is.

Level cap increase and max tier increase of imbued LI legacies are completely independent, and one can happen without the other. The fact that they often do happen together does not mean that it has to be that way.

But as history has demonstrated, it will be. But kudos for stating the obvious?

Also, it was previously mentioned that the LI system itself was getting an overhaul/revamp...I don't see that mentioned anywhere in this letter--either for 2018 or 2019. Let me guess...

    Greetings!

Thank you for being a part of the Lord of the Rings Online community as we celebrate 11 years of adventure. Happy Elevenses! I'm writing today to let you know a bit about our plans for the rest of the year and beyond, and hint at some exciting announcements you can expect to read more about in the future.

We've been enjoying exploring Northern Mirkwood, the "There" part of "There and Back Again". We plan to continue our expansion of the broader region throughout the year. We will also be using 2018 to work on classes, festivals, and quality of life improvements based on your feedback and suggestions (including, in a near update, the ability to see sheathed musical instruments).

Let’s look ahead to Update 23! We will be journeying to the Lonely Mountain, and from there following the eastern paths to the Iron Hills, and north to the Grey Mountains. We're excited to put these important parts of Dwarf culture and history on the map. Update 23 will also come with an instance cluster and, later in the year, a new raid. Our new instances will be designed for both groups and solo players, allowing everyone to see the storyline that unfolds in those instances. Full groups will also be able to enter into the more dangerous tiers of these adventures. The new landscape has 80 new quests, and the Black Book of Mordor will continue its story into these new regions. Update 23 will also increase the level cap to 120.

Beyond Update 23, we have some threads to tie off before we are done with North Rhovanion, including Gundabad, the Vales of Anduin, and landscape contiguity with Lothlórien. You may recall that I initially talked about plans to bring you Minas Morgul in my letter earlier this year. We've re-evaluated that plan, and have shifted the Morgul Vale (with Shelob) into 2019. We have big plans for Minas Morgul, and are shifting its release out slightly to allow for an expanded vision of the content.

One of the longer-term requests we have heard from you is a desire to take a holistic look at our ten classes. This is a challenge for our relatively small team, so we had to take a look at how best to bring this to you. Instead of a comprehensive overhaul of each class, one at a time, we will instead make targeted adjustments to many classes at once, and continue these incremental improvements over future updates. This allows us to improve all of our classes in a shorter time frame and better balance power and group utility in a more responsive way. You can expect the first wave of class adjustments to happen in the coming months, and continue for some time to come.

Speaking of shorter-term plans, we will be bringing you something new this summer: Seasonal Instances! Two Instances will be added, which will run during the duration of the Summer Festival. First, we are remastering Thrang from the Rift of Nûrz Ghâshu as a standalone, scaling Fellowship Instance. Secondly, we are introducing "A Perfect Picnic", a Festivity Instance that allows groups of varying sizes (including solo players) to enjoy a challenge at their level. Our Festival plans don’t end there, and we will be adding to the Harvestmath Festival as well, although the Boffins have suggested we not reveal more at this time.

There are several significant initiatives that are still in the planning stages, so I can’t reveal details today. Expect to hear exciting things throughout the year and beyond! Thank you again for taking part in this journey through Middle-earth with us, and I will write more in the future.

    Sev~

Amazing stuff. Now it feels like the game is in loving hands. After the years of doom and gloom following HD, this is like a miracle.

I am very much for the level cap increasing.

After all, this is the central progression in the game.

Please, devs, do not let the whiners win on this again. Any new quest series without new levels to reach feels incomplete. I would even be a fan of a soft level cap - you could level up indefinitely, it could just get exponentially harder.

Yes! I'm looking forward for the level cap increase. As we move forward we need to get stronger. It's an MMO, that's the nature of such a game. Do not let the whiners win on this an increase it to 120!

I was excited about all this until I read about the unnecessary level raise. There's just less and less incentive to pursue the large gear grind if between expac you are going to arbitrarily raise the cap for no real reason. I would stick to raising it (if you must at all) only for expansions going forward.

I'd much rather have a level cap increase of 5 levels, than another horizontal gear progression for gear i probably won't bother going for because - we won't need it when the gear we already have is fine for level 115 mobs. The grind is the same, no matter which, a grind for new level 115 gear (which would be the goal if no level cap increase was introduced) is no different to a grind for new level 120 gear.

    Watching DAoC video...

Level cap is 50. Its the same cap as when they started, 17+ years ago. Not sure why people are doing pve there.

I have to agree with this. Leveling is a part of the game that I thoroughly enjoy.

Horizontal progression, if done right, can be as equally rewarding and satisfying as adding another digit or two to your character's level.
The key here is, if done right.
    Alas...
