The things we lost: LOTRO obsolete and rare titles, mounts and items

This topic is about some obsolete and rare things in LOTRO that you can’t obtain anymore. I’ll start with titles and then proceed with mounts and probably some deeds and items. Also I’ll add some interesting non-obvious non-obsolete things that I found during the research and that could be of interest for new players.

Another purpose of this thread is to remind developers about some things they could forget. Probably they would like to reuse some of these things in future or bring some events back?

Feel free to add any information I missed in comments and I’ll update the post.

    ~ Obsolete freeps titles ~

    Festivals titles

    Fool
The title was available during some hours on April 1, 2009. You had to complete The Fox in the Hen House chicken-play quest and successfully pass from Gramsfoot to Glân Vraig. The event produced some lags, was quickly turned off and never came back.

    April Observer
The title was granted to those who logged in the game on April 1, 2009. Developers forgot to turn off the event for year 2010 and it was also available during some hours on April 1, 2010.

    Spring-flinger
The title was granted as a reward for automatically completed Brighter Days deed and later as a reward for An Invitation to the Spring Festival introductory quest for those logged in during the Spring Festival. Neither this deed nor this quest are available anymore.

    Moria Expeditionary
The title was part of Mines of Moria pre-order offer.

    Seeker of Khazad-dûm
The title was an additional bonus for those who pre-ordered Mines of Moria at GameStop. Owners of this pre-order also received a special Deep Miner's Helm cosmetic item.

    Mithril-hunter
The title was granted to those who participated in Moria beta testing.

    Avenger of Helm
The title was part of Helm’s Deep Premium Edition offer.

    Titles granted by game masters

I’m not sure if these titles are obsolete or not, but there are no any evidences that GMs still provide these titles nowadays.

    Fathomer of Riddles
The title was granted by GMs to those who solved their riddles in different populated areas like Bree or The Twenty-first Hall.

All these 300 titles are still presented in the game data. Every region has the same suit of deeds and associated titles. Every slayer deed has 5 tiers. I Always wondered why the deed for the hug emote was removed... so that's why. Well they can reinstate it with the new hug emote, hopefully someday

Updated the post with styles, new information and various fixes. The following additions were made to the list:

    • Seeker of Khazad-dûm title was added
    • World Consolidation titles were added
    • Creeps section was added
      • For the Glory of Angmar creeps titles were added
      • Rank 10+ time-limited creeps titles were added
      • World Consolidation creeps titles were added
    • Warden of Eriador, Steward of Eriador and Marshal of Eriador titles are added to GM's exclusive titles section.
    • Titles presented in LOTRO data files (but those never used in game) are placed in its own category. Many presented non-used titles were added there.
    • 300 PvMP titles that were dedicated to especial Angmar, Forochel and Eregion events were posted. I believe it's the first time those titles are publically disclosed. The list is a mess from database now, I'll sort this out soon.

I was lucky to get the "Fool" title. I still wear it. Occasionally I see someone else with it.

First off, this is an incredibly detailed and useful thread. Thanks! +1 rep

Second, I have completed both these deeds below, but just FYI, only the Inn League Notable title is available to me:

    Doom of Thorog Reborn**
The title was a reward for Raid: Thorog Defeated quest and was changed to De-animator of Thorog after Helegrod revamp.

    * According to some sources, the Venomous title and probably other Helegrod titles were cut from the game thus even those who completed the quests before Helegrod revamp can’t use it (confirmation needed).
** It is unknown if old players can wear original title or it was fully replaced with De-animator of Thorog (confirmation needed).

I can confirm a few things:

    1. I had those first 4 titles/deeds prior to the Hele break-up, and now the titles are no longer available to me. It was a disappointing day when they announced that those titles were being "versioned;" they actually put it in the Update quest notes long ago but I don't have the link.

    2. I do still have the title Enemy of Angmar title, having completed the quest prior to the re-vamp. Although it may not be available today, they never deleted the title that I got way back when.

    3. I have both the Doom of Thorog Reborn and the De-Animator of Thorog titles. In my title log, "Doom" is listed under "Quest" section and "De-Animator" is listed under "Skirmish" section.

Here's a strange bug: I never did any of these Ranger's Offensive quests as they stopped offering them by the time I started playing LOTRO. However, I did get the first two tiers of done and currently have "Ally of the Free Peoples" title because for some strange reason "The Mightiest Blow" (Thorin's beer hall fight during the Anniversary festival) counted toward the first two tiers of this deed, but not higher. Even the Wiki lists this quest as counting toward the deeds. I wonder, though, if this was a bug that has now been fixed or not.

A few more questions from me re: missing/obsolete titles. I have been keeping a list myself from random sources over the years and have many of the same ones on my list that you have on yours, OP. However, I have some cryptic notes for a few titles that I wonder if you, or anyone else, has any details on:

    1. Was there some title from a "horse race" event at some point? Perhaps similar to the "weatherstock" titles?

    2. Was there a title/deed called "Weathering the Storm?" I read somewhere along the way that you got this title at level 65 when Barrow Downs Survival skirmish first came out, IF you completed it on level 70. If I remember correctly, when BD survival first came out, you could actually adjust the level ABOVE your current level by 5, so even though everyone was level 65, you could make it more challenging but pushing it up to 70. Does anyone else remember if in deed this was true and if it was the case for other skirmishes as well?

    3. For Inn League, are there the titles: Officer, Confidant, and Emissary? I have vague notes about this.

    4. I did get completely duped at one point by a creep's post one day (perhaps it was April Fool's Day) about a hidden deed/title that you get by killing the Moors bird umpteen times; the supposed title was "Muffler of Tweets." LOL

Here's the link to the Hoax title:

Aha, so it was a tiering title where Notable replaced Senior Member on deed completion. Added this to the title description.

Thank you for detailed information on Helegrod titles. It's a pity all these titles are still presented in dat-files, but can't be used by anyone. I'll update the post with your information soon.

It's indeed fixed. Probably the whole Ranger's Offensive event is turned off, so these deeds can't be bestowed to players at all. Moreover, previously beer fight was part of Yule, not Anniversary festival, and they probably changed all these things many times.

I haven't heard of any title or deed of this sort, even haven't seen any mentions anywhere. Do you have any details?

    2. Was there a title/deed called "Weathering the Storm?" I remember this story. Originally information about "Weathering the Storm" deed appeared in the Survival Barrow-downs guide, later it was added to Lotro-wiki (and it was finally deleted from Lotro-wiki some months ago via my request). I haven't seen any proofs of this deed existence. Neither screenshots nor forum posts. Currently no such string as "Weathering the Storm" can be found in dat-files. So it was either a fake or it was planned but not implemented in the game or fully removed.

    3. For Inn League, are there the titles: Officer, Confidant, and Emissary? I have vague notes about this.
Yeah, check the very last category of my list, they're placed there. Originally they were found in Lorebook, but weren't introduced in the game. No such titles could be found in dat-files today.

    4. I did get completely duped at one point by a creep's post one day (perhaps it was April Fool's Day) about a hidden deed/title that you get by killing the Moors bird umpteen times; the supposed title was "Muffler of Tweets." LOL
Same as with "Weathering the Storm". I believe it's a photoshopped fake. The deed / title / TP icons in the right corner look unrealistic. As I understand the person who posted it wasn't a trustworthy one. If anything, no such string as "Muffler of Tweets" (or even just "muffler") is presented in dat files today.

Awesome, but one thing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Eregion, Angmar, and Forochel titles were used, or at least the special out-of-Moors events in Eregion, Angmar, and Forochel existed, just not for OUR Lotro. I think Lotro China had it. Can anyone confirm this?

The event really took place on Chinese and Russian servers. But the titles weren't implemented back than, I believe.

Good to know! And thanks for sharing those videos!

The story behind the Ally of the Free Peoples and being able to get it from doing The Mightiest Blow quests... That solves a mystery I didn't even realize existed! I started playing Lotro I think in 2012, after the Ranger's Offensive ceased to exist, and I got the Ally of the Free Peoples title from The Mightiest Blow quests. I remember that title coming up and being really, really confused what that title had to do with beer fights. XD
