Yep, I'm really hoping they find a way to get us +10 or 20 Light right off the bat or it's going to be an uphill struggle as most of the Udun quests are in areas of tier 1 to 4 shadow.

You can get the gear via questing and landscape treasure chests.

I was finding landscape drops with +2 and +4 Light last night. They had good stats and often a single essence slot. In the same time that I collected three pieces of armor I also picked up 6 minor tier 9 essence drops.

Your first character into Mordor may run into some challenge but should also find enough landscape loot to make life easier for the subsequent characters.

I did /bug the landscape loot since the equipment was all Bind on Acquire. Bottom end landscape loot has always been Bind on Equip.

Edit: Oopsie. I think the bind on acquire is intentional. All these drops can be deconned into Ash currency on the spot and the Ash can be bartered for better equipment. I though the deconnable stuff had an obvious name. I like this feature since it means I can free up inventory space whenever I take a breather.

The second chapter in the epic gives us a +12 Light of Earendil pocket to use .

But aren't these drops all for level 106+? The 105 to 106 gap is what I'm concerned with, trying to go through initial content with +10 to 40% incoming damage. Wondering for me at least, if it wouldn't be smarter to level to 106 or 107 outside Morder, before going in so that I would be able to use the drops right away.

There are areas with zero shadow along the main road and nearby. I've only found a little quest content to complete in those areas, but slaughtering humanoids gives XP and that's how you'll get the landscape loot as well. If you can't use the item, like Light Armor on your Champ, you can decon it on the spot and get Ash currency while freeing up inventory. The Ash can be traded for items at the elven smith.

I've got a lot of 105 characters who have completed very few quests from Minas Tirith on. All of them are going to be levelling to 106+ outside of Mordor while my two toughest head inside the gates to see what they can do.

Radiance was a decent idea implemented badly. You needed more Radiance gear to do harder content, but eventually most people had what they needed and were not interested in running old instances to help later players get their radiance gear. If you did not have sufficient Radiance you would cower and be able to do nothing but die in instances with Gloom. Finally that mechanism got removed.

The new Light/Shadow mechanism is much more forgiving. Practically everything in Mordor has +2, +4, +more Light on it. You can keep building it up soloing and questing. If you get into tougher areas solo or with groups you'll get rewards that have more Light. This also means it's practical to carry along some swap pieces for a while. Say you're a heavy armor class and you find a ring with +Agility & Vit along with +4 Light. You don't need the Agility, but if you only have +18 Light you can swap that in for a ring with Might & Vit and +2 Light it will take your total to +20 and counter the -20 Shadow.

Yup, and now it's back. Essences were not good, but only partway there. Now it's full blown back to Radiance. Joy...

The first inklings I saw of this system, I sang (to myself), "Hello Radiance, my old "friend", I see you've come to mess with us again ...."
