Introducing: LOTRO Virtue & Traitpoint Tracker [Tool]

    Hello everyone,

in this thread I'd like to introduce a little tool I have been using for quite a while now. It is a tracking tool which allows you to keep track of all deeds that award virtues as well as traitpoints for all your characters.

I have been developing this tool over the years and shared it with a few people already. With LOTROs 10th anniversary coming up I thought I'd share it with the whole LOTRO Community. :]

If you find any bugs or have suggestions please let me know (either through this thread or via PM). :]

Here are a few screenshots to give you an idea how it looks like and what you can do with it:

    Startup Window:
[No image since I couldn't add more to this post.]

    Features:

    • Add as many characters as you want.
    • Delete the highlighted character
    • Edit the highlighted character
    • Start the Virtue or Traitpoint tracker
    • View Release Notes (click on version number)

    Character Edit Window:
[No image since I couldn't add more to this post.]

    Features:

    • Edit the race of a character (required for racial virtue trait)

    • View a detailed list of all deeds awarding a specific virtue by clicking on a virtue progress bar on the right

    Virtue Tracker Configuration Window:

    Features:
    • Define the virtues you want to track for the active character (only tracked virtues will be displayed in the tree view of the tracker) by clicking on a virtue icon or name
    • Change the active character (toolbar dropdown)

    Detailed Virtue Deed List:

    General Info

    • This application is coded entirely in C#
    • The required Software Framework is Microsoft .Net 4.5.2
    • Upon closing the application all data is automatically saved to a XML file. This file is located under "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local \LOTRO Virtue Tracker" and will automatically be loaded when starting the application again.
    • Backup copies of this XML file are created in the same directory the .exe is located in. Just create a shortcut on your desktop if you don't want those files cluttering up your desktop :]
    • It is not possible to retrieve deed/quest information via LUA so there is no way to automatically import data directly from the LOTRO client.
You will have to go through your deed log and update the tracker accordingly. That's partially why there are so many different sorting options for the tree view :]

    • Depending on your PCs OS or security settings you might get a popup message telling you the application might be unsafe to start (Since it's essentially a web download).
It's perfectly safe to use though, Windows is trying to protect you. Run a security scan if you don't want to take my word for it :]

    "Installation" instructions:

    1. Download the 3 files in the DropBox folder:
      • VirtueTracker.exe
      • VirtueTracker.exe.config
      • Release Notes.txt

    2. Extract the archive
    3. Double-click / start the executable "VirtueTracker.exe"
      • Your anti-virus might pop up and tell you the file is unsafe as it's a webdownload
      • Windows 8 or 10 might also pop up a similar warning
      • You have to confirm that you want to execute the program if either of these warnings come up.

    4. The tracker should start. There will be a small window in the middle of your screen (the main window) from which you can then start the VirtueTracker or TraitPointTracker.

If this doesn't work then make sure you have Microsoft .Net 4.5.2 Framework installed on your machine.

The app was developed for Windows so it will not run on any other OS natively. Other ppl in the thread already mentioned a few ways to get it running on Linux/Mac.
For anyone updating from -- V 01.21 -- or earlier:
You need to go through all your characters and add their respective race in the edit dialog. After that, restart the application.
The racial traits will not be displayed unless you define the character race and have restarted the application.

Hopefully some of you will find it useful.

Have a great 10th anniversary everyone!

    Release Notes

    - Added racial traits that award virtue ranks. They will be displayed as a deed in the category "Other" even though they technically aren't deeds.
    Bug fix:

    Updated Virtue Tracker:
    - Added ability to mark all deeds for all currently tracked virtues as completed or not completed

Added additional window to display all deeds for a specific virtue in a sortable data grid
    - Clicking on a tracked virtue in the panel on the right side of the tracker will open this new window
    - Changing the state of the 'Completed'-Checkbox will update the deed in the tracker
    Bug fix:
    - There should no longer be a problem identifying the selected deed in the tree
when the deedlog tab name the deed belongs to is part of another deedlog tabs name
(e.g. tab name "Angmar" is part of "Instances - Shadows of Angmar")

Thank you very much. This is indeed very useful. I hate to look stuff up on the wiki a million times for every character.

    Hi,

I can't get it to work.

I'm on a Mac but am using windows 8.1 through the boot camp partition.

I can download the exe files ok. But nothing happens when I run it.

I have already disabled the windows application safety feature. Rebooted my laptop. But to no avail.

Good catch. It'll be fixed when I upload V01.21.

If it's a proper Windows installation then it should work.
Do you have the Microsoft .Net Framework version 4.5.2 installed?
You also need the "VirtueTracker.exe.config" file to be able to start it. That file contains information the application needs to start up the first time.

This is such a great tool. Thank you for sharing it!

My only suggestion so far, would it be possible to implement a "Check all" checkbox so that those of us with ... many ... end-game characters would be able to check a single checkbox and then go back and individually remove any of the few deeds we may not have completed? It's much easier to deselect a couple of boxes instead of individually checking almost all of them.

    Thank you again!

Yes I will add that to the list for V01.21. It's already in for the Traitpoint Tracker but not for the Virtue Tracker.

Thank you so much for the quick update. This is a great program, and so much easier to use with the "complete all" functionality.

I did notice one error - it appears that Western Gondor's Roaming Enemies should be listed under Patience and not Justice, per the wiki.

Thank you again for sharing your hard work with us!

According to my deed log ingame the "Roving Thread: Western Gondor's Roving Enemies" deed awards 1 Justice. The wiki also says Justice.
The deed "Warbands: Western Gondor's Roaming Enemies" awards 1 Patience. You probably mixed those up

    Glad you find it helpful

And to reiterate: No, this won't run on a Mac unless you run it through some kind of windows emulation aka that bootcamp thingy that mac has.

A little old, but still relevant I guess:
You can run it using wine - that's the standard method of executing Windows stuff on linux infrastructure, and available on Macs as well.
The place to go is winehq.org.

Wine is not an emulation, but an API translation layer, so you don't hit the performance bump you would with a full emulation.

in this thread I'd like to introduce a little tool I have been using for quite a while now.

    Files:

    • VirtueTracker.exe.config
    • Release Notes.txt

Hopefully some of you will find it useful.

Have a great 10th anniversary everyone!
