There are two servers called Legendary Servers (Anor and Ithil) that require you to be VIP to play on them. Try logging into one of the other servers to play as they are free to play.

When will I be able to make new posts? I tried to PM Cordovan, but site came back saying link broke.

Just curious, cause I would like to participate on my server page, and hopefully find a nice place to call home.

    Thanks

The two "legendary" servers, Anor and Ithil, are VIP only.

All the remaining servers can be played free or paid.

I suspect Anor is at the top of the list that anyone new sees at first login. Once you've logged in to one of the regular servers it will appear at the top of the list the next time you log in.

Note that the only thing really different about the legendary servers is that they have a level 50 cap and content is limited to the regions that were playable before the first expansion. The regular servers have the exact same content plus a whole lot more.

PMs wont work until you are allowed out of the playpen, as otherwise spammers would just use them to spam everyone.

Post a few times about the game, and in threads that are unlocked to you, and the forum GM will let you out in a day or 3, however they dont work weekends, so dont expect much before Tuesday.

Dont go posting 3rd party links, or adding them to your sig, a fast way to get your account locked.

Why is it like this?? We have had ongoing issues with a particular spammer getting into the forums and posting hundreds of adverts in every single forum thread; His name is Baba Ji and he is VERY persistent.

Even with a x posts per minute restriction, he will set up an automated spam tool to post x + 1 second and get hundreds of spam posts up before he can be blocked.

There is a basic manual hidden in the LOTRO install folder - for English look in the "EN" folder. However it is so old and out of date, the copyright is in Latin.

Or do you mean this ?? https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?507561-GUIDE-New-to-LOTRO-hints-and-tips

    Which server? It depends:

    What continent are you on?
Do you want PvE, Role Playing or PvP?
    What are your playing hours?
    Are you VIP or F2P?

All of LOTRO's servers are located in Newark NJ and are in two groups of 5 servers each: one for US , Canada, and Oceanic players and Servers for Europe. Each group has servers where role playing is encouraged and all servers have a PvP population. NOTE: PvP in LOTRO is not the games focus and is more an after-thought. Thus LOTRO's PvP population is small. The European servers are further broken down into English, French and German language servers. There are also two Legendary servers, for those ViPs that want a taste of the old LOTRO.

The best thing to do is to create a character on each server in your preferred region, and ask around in Global Chat. You can also read the Server Forums further down on the main page. LOTRO is a mature game and most players are at level cap, currently level 120, though there a few players (new and alts) at lower levels. You may find that your chosen server has few players at lower levels. Do not worry, LOTRO is a very solo friendly game. All classes can solo to max level, it is just that some will have an easier time of it.

As to which class to play, try them all. Level a class to lvl 20 or 30 or so and if you like it continue on with it. If you do not like the class delete it and go again. You can read the Class Forums

Since you mentioned Brandywine, I will take it as you are in the US region. In this region Arkenstone is probably the most populated.

A few links you should bookmark:

There are many more, but you won't need them for awhile yet.

    Welcome to LOTRO.

I need help, please!! I can't even get the game to run or open because it will not stop trying to do some update, which keeps failing over and over, and the process keeps repeating
This is my first time trying to play. (Where it says Updating Files, this is what will keep erroring and then trying again).

This is a screenshot. I downloaded the game through Steam. Please help

Win10?? Read Hurins "One Guide" (google "LOTRO One Guide"), and read about what the installers need, but do not contain, especially the steam installer. There are a number of system files and programs the game needs that are not installed by default, even on older Win7 & 8 systems, so if they havent been installed by other games, the LOTRO install will either fail, or the game will fail to launch.

Also, the game files regularly get picked up by AV and firewall programs as suspicious, even by some ISP level filtering.

Question: I would like to sell my Premium Stately house and buy a larger Premium Luxurious house. I know that you get some writs back when you sell, but is there an easier way to go through this process, or is the only way to unload all chests and decorations onto your character(s), then sell the first house, then get the returned writs (how does that work?), then buy the extra writs from the LOTRO store, then buy the new house?

You've got the general process, but:

    - You can simply sell the house back and all the contents go into escrow and can be retrieved from any escrow broker or vaultkeeper.

    - If also you have a non-premium house it shares the chest with all premium houses, so chest contents will remain in chest of non-premium house.

    - You can own more than one premium house, so you don't have to sell the smaller one to buy a larger one.

Also, when you sell, the writs show up in your inventory. Make sure you have at least one empty slot when you sell.

    questions for a new player

Hi, first time i'm posting here. so i started playing lotro, like a 6 weeks ago, and the game is incredible fun, but also overwhelming... by this i mean, i don't realy understand what to do, or buy to continue to play the game.
i asked a bunch of questions in the world chat, and i somewhat know what i need to do.

so i have one main, captain lvl 38, and one alt, dwarf lvl 30. can't continue to lvl up my main because there are no quests. so ppl told me, i should buy a 'quad expansion pack', i looked at it, it costs only 40€. but i also need to buy the quest pack of trollshaws. to continue the lvling of my main, and the quest pack of eregion. is this a good way to advance further in the game?

and after i buy this quad pack expac, do i need to get another one aswel? seems like i need to go in the direction of moria, for some reason.
also, i need to get VIP to get my set bonus unlocked of my characters, and other smaller things, should i get vip first? and then buy the quest packs? and what if my VIP ends, and i make another character after it, will he also still be affected by it, or not? (by that i mean by the things that are going to be unlocked, like set bonus)

and, someone told my after a certain lvl, (42 i think or 52, but i'm not sure) i need to go to helms deep i believe. to get a legendary? whats that about?

thanks for taking the time to answer all of these, i know its a bunch

You may have run out of quests in the starter areas, but I am betting you still have plenty of deeds to complete (Check your "Deeds" menu). Completing these gives you LOTRO Points (LP), that you can use in the store to buy expansion packs, instead of using cash.

There ARE quests in these other areas, enough to let you progress, but only the "Epic Quest Arc" quests; it is quite possible to get all the way to Helms Deep without buy a single expansion pack.

What MOST people do at this stage is go VIP for one month; this unlocks a lot of things like the wallet, virtues and traits that would cost a lot more to unlock using LP.
Once on VIP you have access to ALL of the quests in the game, and can create 5 or 6 additional characters; this is the BEST time to do this, as every character you create and use also gets the VIP benefits. Once the VIP period runs out, you lose access to new quests, but keep most of the other benefits; by then you should have enough LP to buy the expansion/quest packs you need

    Re Legendary Weapons,

Dont worry for now, the quest to get them gets unlocked at around L47, but you dont need them until you are ready to enter Moria (NOT Helms Deep). To do that you need to go through the Eregion region https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Zones_by_level You get there by taking a narrow passage hidden in the Trollshaws.

On my 6 y/o's account, her LM is L54 and is just about to start the Li quest.

You CANNOT get into Moria without completing the LI quest.

Legendary Weapons are a way of the weapons growing with you that SSG abandon once you reach L100; there are plenty of guides out there to guide you through the best way to use them and get the most out of levelling them up as you go through the game.

One hint, the L50 starter weapon(s) (and satchel, book etc, depending on your character class), are actually pretty powerful, and the normal LI you earn/pick up dont become more powerful until around L60 Third Age (TA).
There are also slightly more powerful Second Age (SA) and First Age (FA); but at the lower levels they arent really worth buying or crafting.

Although you need the starter LI to get into Moria, once you have completed that set of quests, you dont HAVE to keep using LI; I have a L78 Hunter still using non LI weapons.

The Quad Pack is a discounted bundle of 4 expansions (expacs) - Moria, Mirkwood, Rise of Isengard, and Riders of Rohan. It's got content for characters of level 50 through 85 (officially) and 45ish-87ish for all practical purposes. That's a ton of content. You have not quite reached it at level 38, so you need some regional quest packs to fill in the gap. Trollshaws and Eregion would indeed fit the bill here.

You do want to go VIP for a month around this time so as to unlock all the perks that come with VIP. Every character that enters Middle Earth, even just for a brief login and back out, will get these perks unlocked. It's a good idea to create possible future characters while VIP so you can come back to them later and have the VIP perks.

Also, while you are VIP all of the regional quest packs will be available. This means you could adventure in Trollshaws and Eregion as a VIP without having to buy them. (Also North Downs, Evendim, Angmar, Forochel, and Misty Mountains.) You can rack up a lot of levels and see a lot of stuff during that one month of VIP play. Once VIP expires you may need to purchase a QP or you may be high enough level to jump into Moria and ride the Quad Pack content from 50 to 85.

Note that any quest or deed that you start while VIP can be finished after VIP expires. For two part slayer deeds you can only complete the part you are on.

The Epic Quest arc called Walls of Moria starts in the SE of Eregion by talking to the dwarf at the Hollin Gate. This starts Epic quests that take you into Moria and unlock Legendary Items. Since this is part of the Epic it is free. You just need to be level 45+ to get the quest.

    Suggested roadmap:

    1. Buy a month of VIP and use that to keep your two characters levelling.

    2. Create any future characters you might want to play and log them in and out of the tutorial so they get the VIP perks.

    3. Keep an eye on the LOTRO Market link at the top of the forums near the end of April. That's the anniversary of the game and there's a chance things like the Quad Pack will be put on sale.

    4. Buy the Quad Pack when it goes on sale or when you need it to continue playing, whichever comes first.

    Hope that helps. Have fun!

I'm hoping to join a kinship (I'll be posting in that forum when it's open to me) but I'm curious, what's normal regarding decorations? I got a bunch of decorations from the current treasure hunting event and would be happy to use them in a kinship house.

Also, do people all chip in (with in game money) to pay for the upkeep? I would assume so, but thought I'd ask as well.

    Thanks!

that much depends on the kin - in a few i've been in, only officers were encouraged to do so, others everyone has been welcome to but not expected. premium houses don't cost upkeep while VIP status is active, so that cuts it a bit too.

but the other thing is: in the olden days, when housing upkeep actually meant something, it was more relevant. now, most (high-level) people can pay the maximum upkeep at a time and not even notice it. gold bloat is pretty real, and upkeep doesn't scale with it.

When advertising for a Kin try that server's forum.

Decorations, maintenance, etc: That is on a Kin by Kin basis and is a question your should ask when interviewing for a Kin.

Can use the decorations for your own house.

You need to be unlocked before you can post elsewhere. Here's what's going on:

    https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...Only-Post-Here

Once you can post elsewhere, you can post in the thread where an entry can win you LP. That runs once per week.

Is any one faction easier or harder than others for gaining reputation? I seem to have leveled up with the Men of Bree very quickly, well before Thorin's Hall, where I started, or the Mathom Society, where my husband started.
