    Hello everyone!

So I have a few questions:

    1. Is the PvE, both instanced and open world, challenging? I tend to become bored if it is too easy.

    2. Is the game being updated regularly or is it in ''maintenance mode''? I used to play AoC, and even though it was really fun, it was abandoned by Funcom, so I don't want to start on an MMO that may be in the same situation.

    3. Which is the best server for some PvMP action (I'm EU)? I know LOTRO's main focus may not be PvMP, but I usually enjoy some PvP every once in a while.

    4. Is the PvMP always zergy or do people duel in certain places?

    5. And, lastly, a question related to the class I'm more interested in: are guardians viable using 2 handers, or only sword and shield?

Thanks a lot for your answers!

    Welcome to LOTRO!

    1. PvE is not very challenging. You can do only the highest level red quests and underequip yourself to make it more difficult, but I suspect you may still find it easy.

    2. Still being updated regularly. They've been releasing a couple of new regions each year. They might release a new expansion next year to cover events after the Ring is destroyed. If not, then it will be released as more regions.

    3. PvMP I can't really answer. Note however that all the servers are in New Jersey. The NA & EU designations were the original locations a decade ago at launch. Since they have incompatible databases that mostly flags the two groups within which you can transfer characters. Can't go from EU to NA or vice versa. Also slightly indicates which timezone is more likely to be prime time.

    4. Probably mostly zergy. I do know people duel as well, but that may depend on server and prior arrangements between groups.

    5. Guardians are quite viable soloing with 2H. Good way to level up a Guard. Definitely want 1H & Shield to tank since there are aggro management skills that require a shield. You can set up both DPS and tank specs and swap between them when out of combat as well as swap a few armor/jewelry pieces. DPS the trash, swap, tank the 1st boss, swap, DPS the next trash, etc. Doesn't work for all instances/raids, but the option is there.

    ---

Since you can create your minimum number of characters on each and every world, you can check out more than one to see how things look and to read /world chat during your normal play hours. Can't post in /world for a few hours of game time because that had to be restricted a bit due to spammers.

    Have fun!

Sorry, but ingo2 is merely my second account. The forums sometimes flip me back to that account when I post. I still have no idea.

If you have not tried to post again, now that the weekend is over again you could give it another test.

If that fails, try the suggestions from Cordovan the community manager in this post:

I must say, this is strange to not be able to post. Does this company not trust its customers? It seems rather adversarial. If they're worried about spammers, why not require an email verification. I'd like to talk about this game with people, I don't want to see it and wonder when it'll be approved. Are they new to community management?

We had a longstanding problem with multiple spammers splattering the forums with posts advertising an Indian love magic guru. Email verification would just add a handful more steps to their spambots. Since the forum user is tied to the game account and uses the game's authentication server via custom code written many years ago, they can't implement captcha without the cost and time of redoing the custom code. We're basically stuck with this. The CM did change things recently in a way that made it much faster to get out of forum jail because the original quick fix to the spam problem could lock a new user in this forum for weeks.

We've also had an intermittent problem with disgruntled players who create new accounts in order to come here and post trash talk about other players, GMs, etc. We had one just this morning, in fact, posting in this thread. The restrictions also limit that. (The original problem was an angry player posting some pretty vile porn images all over the forums for an entire holiday weekend.)

Since I started playing a couple of months ago, I have almost never been able to log out to the character selection screen - the 10 second timer runs out, and the game exits. Is this a known problem?

This happened with my old Windows 7 gaming laptop, and continues with my new Windows 10 Desktop PC.

    Thanks

Never heard of it but I'm sure many things happen that I've not encountered. My desktop runs win 7 2014 edition (Ultimate, they called it) and I sometimes get timer run out without the character exiting at all but never so that the client closes without going to selection screen.

The trouble with troubleshooting is it's so hard to know what sort of system a person runs, what stuff might clash with the game client.
My sys tray has Volume, WiFi connection and an icon for my external HDD - and that's it.
When I clean up my old father's laptop every few months, he can easily have ten useless things running in the background. Typically he'll complain his machine runs very slow and then I go in and close 10-20 auto startup things, remove some toolbars and search engines, block a few updates and tell them to update once a week if possible or not at all where applicable.
Suddenly his phone will start syncing with some dropbox or his pad will start to generate some playlist at random

It's odd that you had it happen under win 7 too! It sounds to me as if it should/could be an issue with RAM or similar, with some action timing out. This shouldn't be a problem on any fairly specced laptop and certainly not on any desktop almost regardless of components on the inside.

People HAVE reported some issues with dx10/11, where reverting to dx9 helped. That was not for logout though.

The trouble is, I have had the exact same problem with 2 different computers! They even had 2 different OSes on them. The only thing shared between them was the fact that they had Radeon graphics cards (but different models/generations), and the same config/save directory in 'My Documents'.

Once I get posting privileges I'll try posting about this in the tech support forum...

I have nvidia - being an altoholic, I can relate to how annoying it must be if the client exits when alting.

Best of luck in any case

    I need advice

Hello, im kind of new to this game and I need a little advice. My best friend and I want to buy a quest pack, I a have a 36 (almost 37) lore-master and he's got a 27 level champion. My first choice was North Downs, but then I saw that is for levels 25-30, so I think we wouldn't enjoy the whole thing with the level we have. Next I thought of Trollshaws because is level 30-50, but I read online about it and pretty much everyone hates it, so im not sure what to do now.

Evendim, which is officially for 30-40 is the best bet for first QP after finishing the free content. It's also about the best bet for your situation. It will be a little low level for you, but your friend will level up quickly and get closer in levels to you. If you're thorough about doing all possible quests and slayer deeds, then it can take you up to 41 or 42.

Unfortunately, the content from 30 to 50 is a bit haphazard with regards to level range. It was originally part of the level 1-50 subscription only game and was not designed to break up into regional QPs. That's why you get odd overlaps. (By the way, North Downs is 25-35. Western half is 25-30 and Eastern is 31-35.)

After Evendim, I'd suggest Forochel. That's good for levels 40-48. By 45-46 you'll be able to take on the Mines of Moria expansion. Even though it's rated 50-60, most classes can handle it at 45-46 and a pair can breeze though it.

    Have fun!

So I STILL can't post, not even to here.... argh!!

Anyway, I was wondering why people recommend setting up a 2nd account to your main one, and having a character follow you around while you are grinding loot. Does this increase the amount of loot you get?

    Thanks

Each character in a fellowship gets an individual award of non-coin loot as if they had killed the mob solo. Coin is a single award divided amongst the group. This helps with grinding task items, recipes from humanoid mobs, legendary items in Moria and later, etc. The secondary character will also gain XP and level up from it.

If your main is not a Hunter, then make the secondary a Hunter so you can take advantage of the OOC speed buff and porting skills.

    Hello there!

I've wanted to give the game a go for a long time now, and been loving what I could experience of it, so far... However, there is a really harsh thing I can't seem to digest well, and which completely breaks any feel of immersion, imho...

When will the player characters receive that same visual revamp of many of the NPCs? Is there any implementation plan for it?

When starting my game with a dwarf, I saw all those nicely shaped and pretty elves and decided to create one too, which, needless to say, looked -nothing- like the elven NPCs... To my dismay, both kinds of elf apparently had to cohexist.. I couldn't bear looking at Elrond's nice face while mine was similar to that of an inflatable doll... It's gruesome to immersion... It's vile. This isn't supposed to feel like Adventure Quest... I'm fond of the lovely game graphics, but, -that- face/complexion disparity is harsh...

A small research about it brought up mentions of people not wanting or agreeing with a complete visual character overhaul, regarding a possible attachment to their chosen looks.. But, how is it possible to develop any kind of uniqueness, link or attachment with a plain and generic egg head, in which 95% of the plastic faces look the same?! You pass through the arrows and can -only- try to make your egg head less broken or minimally acceptable. Talking of eggs, it's pretty much like opening an egg box and saying that a specific egg mostly represents my own traits and self. It's madness!

Elves presented the biggest disparity from what I could see, so far, made me cringe in desolation to realize I won't be able to play an elf. I think the only choice will end up being the dwarven one, which can be hidden behind a bear and large nose.

Are these visual revamps only applied to certain NPCs, though, such as the ones from opening sequences?

Or does it apply to every NPC, leaving the player characters appearing like god-forsaken children of a browser game?

By all means, I don't want to sound rude or trollish, but it was quite a shock to find out something so game-breaking for me, and which may prolly make many new players shy away from the game, would limit even more the gameplay of a title I felt so hyped to try...

Maybe I'm overthinking, since the lighting helps a bit, in some cases, but still.. there's -quite- a difference...

    Thanks in advance!

I believe a dev or the CM mentioned that they would be looking into revamping character appearances, but that's just a vague maybe. Nothing more solid, I'm afraid.

There was indeed a strong reaction to that. We've had "improvements" to animations, emotes, etc in the past which have messed up some peoples characters, or all members of a specific race/gender. Thus a lot of people reacting strongly to any suggestion of future changes. Adding new/more appearance options is only OK if the current ones remain untouched.

    Was Severlin 2 weeks ago:

I think we can all agree that prospect can be both exciting and scary. Avatar preference is super subjective, and even some of the best received game revamps have a percentage of players who prefer the old look. We are looking at providing an option to use the old avatars so we are not forcing players to use newly updated models and animations if they don't want to.

Having two avatar paths then becomes a design challenge if we add new hairs or facial options; the old avatars wouldn't have an equivalent option.

These are the types of design and art challenges we are wrestling with as we work on the expansion.

    password will not reset

hi, I would like to know what I can do to retrieve my password, I get the email and do a reset but never resets. It says it is successful in resetting. From what I have read if you have an older password it will not reset, I would really like to play. I have submitted tickets over the past month or so with no response. Any help would be great! thank you.
