    Re: The Riddle-Game

Well if it lies beneath the waves its either from Beleriad or Numenor. I'm thinking Gondolin, but the sharp hound and scarlet fur make me doubt it. Also, can some dev PLEASE sticky this?

Could it be the sceptre of Numenor?

Oh and I agree with ehb, this really should be stickied.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Well your thinking is right ehb, it's in Numenor or Beleriand

But sorry guys, both off with the guesses..

The last line is extremely obscurely relevant so don't worry about it too much; unless you read this forum currently But even then it's link is tedious at best..
Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth to single combat. And Morgoth came.

    Nope sorry!

Maybe I'll help you guys out a bit.. the first line is a play on words, they kinda sound like what someone used to call this place.. I must admit even for me it's a stretch, and definitely worth a groan when someone figures it out. Note; the old name is quite obscure too, out of unfinished tales i think..

My guess after reading a bit of unfinished tales, perhaps Amon Rudh?, or more specifically, the house of ransom(Bar en Danwedh) on top of Amon Rudh?

Correct Isilmacil! The sharp hound bit referred to Sharbund, the old name for Amon Rudh.. groan, I know.. the rest should be fairly self-explanatory...

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Well that goes down as one of the most obscure riddles I've ever seen!
Well, heres my attempt at a riddle.

King of old, defeated the might,
Kingdom he had, a haven of right.
Alliance he made, and at enemies struck,
But in the dark night, he ran out of luck.

    A buildup of oily grime,
    A self-appointed regime,
A friend of the deadliest predator,
To ever swim or walk in Eriador,
Tyranny and slavery was his game,
Although he felt a twinge of shame,
    He ultimately met his maker,
Sent to him by poison-tongued faker.

Bit too easy I feel, but I hate to see the riddle thread dying!

I have a few ideas of what your riddle could mean Jonwah, be neither of them fit every line.
Going to have to think on this today.

Freddrick, Hobbit Minstrel ~ Rickman, Human Lore-Master (Landroval)[/size]

I'd think Saruman, but then theres that pesky greatest predator line.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Hmmm, maybe I did make it a bit obscure after all.. The predator line does not literally refer to a predator, but to the name of the deadliest predator to ever swim or walk.. And the first line is a dead giveaway if you think abstractly..
Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth to single combat. And Morgoth came.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

I was at first thinking one of the more corrupt Numenorean kings, but that's not in Eriador. I would've said Saruman like e_h_b, but guess that's not right.

The only "tyrants" that I can think of who would be in Eriador would be those of the realm of Angmar, but I can't imagine any of them feeling shame...

I'll give you a new line to help out..

    A buildup of oily grime,
    A self-appointed regime,
A friend of the deadliest predator,
To ever swim or walk in Eriador,
Tyranny and slavery was his game,
Although he felt a twinge of shame,
    He ultimately met his maker,
Sent to him by poison-tongued faker,
Just before his own little empire would fall,
Delivered into freedom by four warriors, none tall.
