    Re: The Riddle-Game

    At second glance, Elves seem more likely. I'm thinking the line about the sand means that they were Elves who had been in Valinor, but left it for some reason.

    Is it the Noldor?

    Not elves or any specific type of elves, although they do play a part in the riddle.

    Sounds like Ents to me...they at one time beheld that which great Elflords/ladies( Galadriel, for example) also saw in the Blessed Realm, I believe. And certainly the "child-folk" were in awe of them.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Sorry, not hobbits or ents. Just so you guys know, the answer is associated with some of the new content that Turbine announced would be in the expansion.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Not just the two holly trees guarding the Moria gate but all holly trees, I do believe

    Wardens of the bridge which loving to the loved linked,
    The holly trees were planted in Eregion at the bridge that linked Moria with Hollin..

    Greeted fond by foreign eyes, and in the Redbook inked,
    The fellowship found Hollin a deserted but pleasant land because of the trees still there..

    Fateful wanderers swiftly escorted by legendary kings,
    Gil-Galad planted them there I'm guessing? Don't really know..

    Lingering only where great hope and inspiration truly rings,
    Legolas says something like "The memory of the Elves lives on still in this land", and the trees are a part of that..

    Nice riddle Womdon, very nice indeed

    Ding ding ding, way to go sloth! The Mallorn trees originated in Aman, and grew on Tol Eressea. They were brought to Numenor by the elves, then gifted to Gil-Galad and Galadriel by the Numenorian king who was the subject of LA's riddle a few days ago. (hence the lines concerning the bridge, first then second then first, beyond the bend, and escorted by kings)

    They grew primarily in Lothlorien, which means Dreamflower by the way, and a mallorn seed was given to Samwise which he planted in the Shire. Only by Galadriel's power was it able to grow there. I've always liked the description of the Mallorn trees, and hopefully once we get to see Lothlorien in-game they'll be quite impressive!

    A short, non-lore riddle:

    What appears only when you sit
    Yet vanishes when you stand?

    Right! Here's another easy non-lore riddle:

    This is a very easy riddle
    However, it may appear
    Exceptionally hard;
    Really all
    I will
    Do to solve--
    Do to find the answer is,
    Look at the first.
    Every first holds a part.
    Go now and seek
    And, perhaps, just
    Maybe it will appear
    Exceptionally quickly!

    OK, here's an old classic:

    In youth I go on no legs
    In my strength I go on two
    In old age I go on three
    What am I?

    A human?

    Youth = crawling = no legs.

    Strength = adult = 2 legs.

    Old age = using a cane = 3 legs.

    Thumbs down Re: The Riddle-Game

    Okay I made one (my first). The rhythm is a bit odd and it will be terribly easy for all of you I'm sure but it was fun to do:

    I’ve seen many pass over me;
    Small ones,
    Heading there and back,
    Or bearing burdens great.

    Steeds I’ve seen pass over me;
    Three dark ones,
    Shadowed, cursed and black,
    Set forth from the bleak gate.

    Men too have crossed my arches three;
    And that one,
    Bent to see what fell,
    And finding the great elf’s clue.

    Yes they all have come ‘cross me;
    But not one,
    Could cross the Mitheithel,
    Without giving me my due.

    That would be the Last Bridge. Not sure if it has another name, but that's what I've always seen it called.

    Looks like I've missed a bit of riddling today, nice stuff LOTRfan and Fusillade. I'll see if I can come up with one tonight, bit busy at work at the moment.
