    Clue 2 - The 'debt' isn't financial.

    Think a bit more cryptically

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Wow the old thread is kicking butt, so many great riddles!

Wilksie, I have a guess. Probably a long shot, but its all I got so far. so here goes

I thought along the lines of it possibly being a Lotro NPC

So how about the shade in the haunted alley?

Always in debt: he talks about his debt being oaths and promises unfulfilled.

Circular Key: He's looking for a ring that will release him from the evil power holding him there.

Muddled up sole: .....err... hmmm. I would think it would fit if it was a muddled up soul, but you said the spellings you used were correct. I dont think he had anything to do with fish or feet lol. So i dont know hehe

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Hurrah we have a winner.

The reasons you have given are also correct.

    The other clues were:

'There was once a man from Bree,' - instead of 'There once was...' was there to suggest he is no longer a man - i.e. he is now The Dead.

'A muddled up 'sole hadst' he,' - Muddled up refers to the next part being an anagram. Unscramble 'sole hadst' and you get 'Lost Shade'.

Well done Elvyen. I hope you have an easier one lined up for us I didn't think anyone was going to get that one!

Wow lol I never wouldve gotten that part, but it does indeed make sense. Very clever
    Nice riddle.

Ill try to think one up, but its been a long time, so im really rusty hehe
In the meantime, someone may feel free to step up.
    This may take a while.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

OK i threw a ridiculous little one together quickly
here ya go (sorry in advance lol)

If I am given leadership, an apex becomes an ending.
A hole that one might dig becomes an action for offending.
Small doses of medicine become accidental messes.
And one’s entire family becomes something one caresses.

    (edit for Murtallica below hehe:
    it's not LoTR related)

    Denethor, The steward of Gondor?

And if this is the right answer, i'll pass on making up a riddle, can't think of one atm.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Is it the letter S?

    Top (apex) becomes Stop (ending)

    Pill (medicine) becomes Spill (messes)

Not sure on the other two

    edit - Kin and Skin?

edit 2 - Pit and Spit?

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Hey elvyen, how's it going? Long time since I logged on here, although I still do have my account. Anyway, I came up with a quick riddle... somber though it may be. Guess I'm in that kinda mood:

I'm dark and solemn... my meaning severe,
The sane who think of me surely must fear.
Ponder me now, though surely you harrow,
The thought of stone, and earth, and barrow.
You'll find me but once, everyone pays the toll,
Though all who need me are beyond seeking their goal.

    I am the coiled snake;
    the cherished treasure,
    the mastercard of middle-earth,
    the captive's displeasure.

    What am I?

But my guess is; the one ring

The One Ring I am not.

My hint I will give is this, with regards to the second line: Not all that glitters is gold--just because it's called "treasure" don't presume it's made of gold.
