    Re: The Riddle-Game

I'm going to say Gorthol, even though it has basically been said in previous posts not in so specific a manner ^_^

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Neither the Grey Mountains nor Gorthol are correct. I really thought this one was obvious--which is either the sign of a good riddle or a terrible one. Just goes to show how tricksy riddles can be...even the author can be fooled :P

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Ok, it was kind of mentioned indirectly but not named - are you referring to the Dragon-Helm of Dor-lomin itself?

The last line let's me think it's not a person. A dwarf wore the mask - so you could say he has the head of a beast and it became an heirloom .. thus fathering future "dragons" - the ones that were strong enough to bear it.

Just because you said it's obvious

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Correct.

A dwarf with the head of a beast - Azaghal
A beast with the body of a man - Turin
I am the father of Dragons, - Glaurung
but myself no dragon. - Glaurung's LIKENESS is THE central decoration of the Dragon-Helm.
    What am I?

    Hehe, nice!

Chiolas, since you basically provided the main pointer and I don't have a riddle up my sleeve right now I would like to ask you to go ahead?

Daang, the earlier riddles in this thread were easier, and I applaud you coming up with something that just made me go, "What the heck is he talking about?" *clap clap clap*

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Ok I'll give it a try :P

It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
    And empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
    Ends life, kills laughter.

    Somewhat LOTR related ._.

Lol it was in the Hobbit.
    Answer is Dark.
Give me till tomorrow to think of a riddle, if I can't think of one, someone else say one.

Not like that, we're just thinking about it.

Sounds like an elf to me, but what elf wasn't born with a silver spoon and traveled through some of these places? So far all I could think of met a ghastly end in some war...

    I like your riddle.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

There once was an elf from Lothlorien
who let a noisy dwarf quarry in
    past the guard of Nanduhirion.
    The dwarf felt he would carry on;
but the elf said "You breathe louder than the Gondorian!"

I know. He actually said "The dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark." but that hardly fits into a limerick, does it?

    Anyway, onto the riddle:

    Two of me there were
    Yet one did I become
    Famed for my golden hair
But I am speaking of the Lord, not the Lady.

    Who am I?

Here's my latest riddle. We'll see how easy it is.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Glorfindel?

There were 2 of them (one in Gondolin, slayer and slayed by a balrog, and the other in Imladris), he had golden hair if I'm not mistaken, and he was known as Lord Glorfindel

    Re: The Riddle-Game

well done in one. I was hoping to throw some off the scent by referencing the Lord and Lady who are of course Celeborn and Galadriel, of whom Galadriel the Lady had the golden hair, while Celeborn had silver---but you had none of it!

Yes, the answer is the Elf-lord Glorfindel, whose very named means "Golden Hair".

    Your riddle.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

'Yet one did I become' Can you explain this part? O_o

I am the lord of darkness and shadow
    I defeated knowledge
    I defeated fire
    I defeated water
But that same water finally bested me...

    Who am I?

It looks kinda hard, but take some guesses and I'll give you clues, you'll eventually get there :P

    Re: The Riddle-Game

I keep thinking this is not the answer but i keep returning to it,

is this a reference to Durin's bane, after he hit the water in the deeps and both he and Gandalf climbed their way to the top and out for their final stand?

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Durin's Bane is not the correct answer (it's close though :P)

It has lots of poorly-written metaphors :P

    Re: The Riddle-Game

    Nope

I'll narrow it down a bit: the 'knowledge', 'fire' and 'water' are NOT to be taken literally, the 'water' especially can be considered a lame metaphor (I had to find something related to 'fire' and this was the best I came up with :P)
