That's incorrect. The restrictions do not deal solely post count.

I've seen users post in other forums with a post count as low as 2, and I've seen users report the restriction on where they can post with post counts over a hundred.

It is a time release system. Post once. Wait out the timer. Turbine does not explain how long the wait timer is.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.

My bad, I assumed it was a certain number of posts since the people I know would post a few times, and the lock would get removed. I guess I just got that conclusion because not many of the forum jockies only post once and leave it at that... heh

I've got a feeling they don't want people posting on forums at all.

Thre are a number of factors involved. Also, to be very clear, this is not solely to discourage spammers. There are those who feel the need to create alternate accounts to violate the community guidelines and, they hope, avoid detection and consequences. This restricts them as well.

Posting in an appropriate manner and a few other factors determine the release from this area. We don't' say what they are for obvious reasons. I can also say, they change from time to time.

New Player - Cannot Post to Forum

Hello everyone! I just started playing this game a few days ago, I created a character on the Snowbourn server, and I just went to that server forum to try to post and the new thread button isn't available. Do I need a certain post count before posting in server forums?

Also I am level 22 now and I have yet to see any other real players running around, so far over the last few days I have the feeling like I am playing a single player game, which server is the most populated?

    Thanks in advance.

I am older VIP player but just started using forums and have the same issue. Admins explained that after your first post timer is unlocked and in some time (they did not define what time or how active you have to be on forums) you will be able to post on all forums. Let's see how long does it take.
Regarding servers - Brandywine is by consensus most active server, Laurelin/Landroval are quite active being RP servers and all. And also Gladden might be active as it is on top currently when you are trying to log in.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I will be able to post inside my servers forum very soon. Looking to meet other players on my server but it makes it hard not being able to post threads there.

Keep in mind, this is the way LotRO's quest structure is. (Almost) All quests are one-and-done (not-repeatable).
So, you simply go to a quest hub, do the quests, then move onto the next quest hub.

Thus, as you quest in the wilds, it's not unusual to not see others questing near you as they are likely either behind of you or ahead of you.

Also, on the issue of the topic, about the posting restrictions were put into place...

Just would be interesting to know what are the factors and the length of being in forum purgatory. I am sure that Turbine wouldn't count number of posts as it some of these widely available forums would be spammed by newbies

Turbine is being deliberately mysterious about this. If they told us what it takes to get past the restriction, then the spammers would do that thing and they'd be all over the place again. Nowadays we just have to deal with them here in the New Player forum.

Well hopefully I can post in other forums soon. I am not a spammer and this is my first and only account here so I hope the restriction is lifted very soon!

I hope so too. I can see how it's pretty annoying, especially for folks who are newly excited about the game and want to dive in to everything.

Well, deliberate griefers aside, if you all are quick enough you can see there are 4 threads of genuine spam currently in this forum.

On the line of "wish we knew what the requirements were", consider what the deliberate griefers are thinking. On the one hand Turbine could tell everyone what the requirements are. Those griefers would be able to know how easy/difficult it is to get past them. Telling them those requirements is only an encouragement. "Come this far, just this far!" It entices them to go the distance. Whereas on the other hand we have mysterious requirements. Those griefers have no way of knowing how easy or difficult it is. Not knowing puts doubt into them, and that doubt makes them ask whether it's really worth the undefined amount of time they may have to sink into it. And for what? Just to grief others?

We are far better off having these restrictions. And trust me, it could get a LOT worse. SWTOR won't let anyone post anywhere unless they are VIPs. Not even ex-VIPs can post on their forums.

To come to a game, pay money, and then be locked out of the forums mysteriously, and they'll let you in when you feel like it? Kudos to the OP for remaining calm, but for every one of him/her are ten more players who give up feeling mildly annoyed or snubbed, and never connect to the community, unable to participate in discussions or class forums to ask questions, etc., which means they are more likely to drift away and give Turbine nothing. They really need a big red warning at the top of the forum--or something. Have to agree that SWTOR is worse though.

Actually I have no issues with this decision and implemented tools - everybody wants clean forums. Just I think this should be somehow communicated better by Turbine. I had no idea why I can't post, thought maybe I missed some tick somewhere, checked my account looking for some missing things and only after browsing through several forum threads understood the idea behind the delayed posting time. So this is mildly annoying when you have been playing for four months

Same here, I am not exactly terribly pissed off though I can't yet post anywhere else, since the reason is good, but I would have had no idea if not for this thread. (Thanks for asking it!) I guess with searching one might find the information, but I am very lost here, at least.

Is there any difference once you have passed the restriction between account types on the forums?

It's not so much as being locked out of the forums mysteriously so much as the fact that they have restrictions in place the moment they create their account, regardless of whether or not they've paid money. And while $15 for a month's sub with SWTOR seems like a big pill to swallow for a griefer, the SWTOR forums do actually receive those griefers who feel it is worth their money to post nasty things on those forums. Some people are just weird like that.

A sticky in this forum (or wherever new players are most likely to wander to first) with the simple explanation that there are restrictions (without even telling us what they are) would be nice. Lacking that, of course, there are numerous threads already in this forum in which it is explained that new members have a few unknown hurdles to jump through before their full posting privileges are bestowed. With a little searching it isn't too hard to find the answers to the why of the matter.

Unspecified time starting from when? Do you have to post something and wait from that time? Or how long you have had an account and read the forums and never posted? I dont understand.

Thats the thing though. We the players do not know, only Turbine.
Withywindle characters-Caesaran (warden), Dernudan (Lore master)
Brandywine characters- Dernudan (champion), Denthur (guardian), Delphinianic(captain)

No. The post restrictions have nothing to do with account status.

Old time player here, for some odd reason couldn't post with my normal forum account, and I can't post anywhere else but here either...Why oh why doth Turbine do this to us?!?

Well, for starters, you just admitted to violating Rule 1 of the Community Guidelines.
    1. One person, One Account.

You are permitted one Community account for posting on the Community Sites. Players who are found posting from more than one account will be asked to choose an account for use while posting, and posting privileges will be removed from all other accounts. Additional or secondary accounts created or used for the purpose of trolling, circumventing a ban, or otherwise violating these Community Guidelines may result in the permanent ban of any and all associated Community and Game accounts, at the Turbine Community Team's discretion.
Second, of your "old time" account and your "new" account, it's likely that you haven't been active on the forums. Which is (possibly) the reason you're under restriction.

I've already quoted Sapience in the thread, specifically stating that the exact details of the restrictions are not publicly known and change from time to time.

    As intended.

Why? Because then the trolls, sock puppets, and other undesirables this system is meant to slow down (you can never truly defeat them) know it too and simply wait it out. We could, and did seriously consider, even more restrictive options. For example only letting new players see this forum and no others. Only allowing new players to post after 10 days, then an additional delay in posting beyond these forums. Etc.

To be very honest, the inconvenience is very minor. For most returning members(on their older account), as has been posted many times, you can simply log out and log back in and you should kick over the permissions switch and be able to post anywhere. If that doesn't work then wait an hour and do it again. For truly new members, you'll find answers to most of what you're likely to ask right here in the new player questions forums Because hey, that's what they're for!

As fort he aforementioned others, it has, based on my PMs and some calls, been wildly effective at frustrating their efforts. So it's unlikely to change.
