    Memory issues

Anyone else experiencing this..? Only started happening even during non-intensive activity recently.. in the past fans would only kick in and stay on if it was something like big raids.

As the saying goes -- Right church, wrong pew.

Yes, there is (apprently) still a memory issue.

However, the Fan issue has nothing to do with memory usage or the memory fault issue.

The Fan issue has to do with the heat generated by the Graphics usage.

With Riders of Rohan, Turbine INCREASED the "graphics" usage of LOTRO.

With subsequent "revisions" to Bree, The Lone Lands, Trollshaws, North Downs, Misty Mountains, that technology has been "back ported."
Meaning -- the graphics is more "intense" in those areas; meaning the "graphics system" of your computer system, whatever kind, "works harder."
Graphics which "work harder" generate more heat.

I suspect that if you were to set your graphics settings to low or maybe medium, the fan usage would drop off again.

The graphics systems in "all" Mac products are quite sophisticated. 90%, maybe 99% of what you use your system for NEVER use more than about 10% of the capabilities of your Mac.
LOTRO on the other hand, DOES use as much graphics power as you can throw at it.

it is "well known" that Mac Portables DO have fan issues - they run Hot. That is why there have been all kinds of "lap-board-ventilators" available for them since they were first introduced.
Historically, Mac Portables were cooled strictly by convection. Apple finally recognized that as they increased the power of their Graphics systems, they needed to introduce Fans to assist the convection cooling.

Apple has a couple of "notes" on the issue. Because there is no "absolute" answer, the papers are written very "globally" and require that you both read between the lines and have a significant knowledge of the hardware. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1778?v...S&locale=en_US - Mac notebooks: Operating temperature -- is one such.

"During processor intensive activities—such as processing HD video or playing a game that makes extensive use of the graphics processor—the fans speed up to provide additional airflow." -- is a typical statement. It requires that you understand the phrase "extensive use of the graphics processor" for example.

If you "Google" things like "mac portable and heat" you will get a bunch of articles from various sources on the topic.

One last point about "Graphics." What you see on your screen and how you "evaluate" it is SUBJECTIVE.

They represent what looks good to YOU! But that is not necessarily what looks good to someone else -- and some changes which are made are NOT even visible to some people, while make a glaring difference to others.
