    Express train?

    express train. so... what did Tolkien mean with this? So far as I am concerned, express trains were quite an uncommon feature in Middle-Earth. Did Tolkien change an other word describing the fireworks , from the original red book written by one of the hobbits or... Do any of you have any thoughts on Tolkiens (in my opinion) puzzling choosing of word to this passage?
    I've been thinking about this some time and can't figure it out.
