This might tell you a little about the population of the servers, do note that it is about the accounts, and not about the accounts that are actually playing. So it's an approximate

And here's something about the servers by 'country'

(I have no idea if this is aged a bit, as in, maybe some of these servers no longer exist)

You can also see in the lotro forum list about servers which are 'english', which are 'german' and which are 'french'
German: Anduin, Belegaer (RP), Gwaihir, Maiar, Morthond, Vanyar
    French: Estel (RP), Sirannon

Wow the number of accounts parked at 65 and 75 is almost the number at end-game right now.

It appears to be the number of characters, actually. Some players have one or two or three characters, some have a dozen or more, some have multiple accounts including VIP and F2P, so there's no way to know exactly how many human beings might be logged on at any one time. However, it seems logical that the servers with the largest number of characters would generally be the busiest, i.e. easiest to find a group, having the largest selection of items on the auction, etc.

Plus rep to FroukjeMarije for finding and posting the links. The information is helpful as long as we don't read too much into it.

If you click on one of the servers it tells you how many unique accounts are on that server. As you pointed out, there are players with multiple accounts, but I'd guess that is by far the minority. Of course it's still not going to tell you how many of those accounts are active.

EDIT: Scratch that, those numbers appear to be LoTRO-wide, not server specific.

Note that the lotroaltfinder data is becoming increasingly out of date. Following changes on the lotro site, it has not been updated since August 1st 2013.

Since things have been quiet ahead of the new ex-pack, the data is probably not too bad at the moment, but it will decline rapidly in value post launch.
