The kin I am in was flagged as RP, but it's RP on occasion (like only during scheduled RP events, which are few and far between). If I were around a bit more often I'd be looking for a new kin, but I have yet to find one that offers what I'm looking for.
Four pieces of advice for wanting to RP:
- NEVER use voice chat if you want to stay In Character. It's essentially what killed my RP kin. If I must use voice chat it's to talk about Quest Specific stuff, or to talk to in-game friends.
- RP what you know. Don't try to act like some LOTR historian if you're not. Honestly, there were parts of the quest line where I just didn't pay attention to the details. People in a group were trying to RP about the plight of some NPC from 20+ quests past, and I didn't know what they were talking about. Instead of trying to BS my way through it, I stated essentially that as a Captain, one must put aside the trivialities of the situation. I get my orders and I act upon those orders. The lives affected by my actions in a single circumstance often do not matter when all of Middle-Earth is at war.
- Don't be corny. Nothing kills RP more than trying to sound like Shakespeare/Ren Faire trash.
- Don't abuse the actions and emotes. 90% of the reason I avoid The Prancing Pony is because I get too much action flood trash. What I mean by this is when you have people typing out those long novels of what there character is thinking. No one cares, and it's not a TV show with a voice over. To effectively role play, only tell people what they see, not what's implied or what your character is thinking (not spoken).
