    New player

    Hi all,

In the past, I had played Lotro for about 3 years. I haven't played now in about 2 years, but I really miss the community and wanted to go back to a nice, calm MMO. I know there have been a lot of changes and I was hoping someone could give me kind of a quick overview of what's changed without having to dig through hours of information.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

I am in same boat :-)
With Warhammer shutting down I am probably going to end up back here again.
Haven't played much since MoM came out so if anyone knows a welcome back guide that would be great.

    Welcome back, Megrin and Cartman76

    A few snippets since F2P:

We have had 2 expansions in the last 2 years since F2P: Rise of Isengard and Riders of Rohan.

We got two additional regions: Great River (south of Lothlorien) and Wildermore (west of the Wold in Eastern Rohan).

We are back to following the main storyline in the Epic books, with the Breaking of the Fellowship and more in the three books added with RoR.

We have received several new instances and raids, including 3 3-mans, 1 6-man, and 1 12-man post-RoI, 3 3-mans, 1 6-man, and 3 12-mans post-RoR set in Erebor. There have also been some smaller instance additions, like another 6-man in Great River, not to mention a skirmish or two.

    We now have Mounted Combat.

    Moria has been revamped.

Bree-town received a nice visual revamp.

Fornost has been revamped, split and scaled.

There are now gold class drops in many instances, which give an extra bonus related to the class.

Stat caps have been removed and stats have been altered (for example, power is now given per level - Will no longer gives any).

Classes have seen significant changes, some more than others. Even bigger changes, including new trait trees, are coming with Helm's Deep.

We have a new festival, Farmer's Faire, which usually runs some time between Summer Festival and Harvest Festival. We also have a mini-festival that is periodically enabled called the Treasure Hunt. Bilbo's Birthday quest chain has been revamped significantly recently. The Yule Festival implemented tiered deed rewards. All festivals have received new rewards.

There are new daily login rewards, with a free weekly one for VIPs also.

The level cap is now 85, soon to be 95.

A housing revamp is on the way.

This is not an exhaustive list, as the changes and updates are many, but hopefully it helps

Belnavar, thanks so much for your help!!

It may not have been a full 2 years since I played. I remember the elf starting area and the hobbit/human starting area getting revised. I had at least one of every class so it's hard too starting where I left off, trying to remember what my high level characters do.

I played a few years back too and am coming back to see Helms Deep. Do you have any idea where I can find out about all the class changes in one area?

The changes coming in Helm's Deep?
    https://www.lotro.com/en/game/articles

The articles section on the lotro site above contain 8 of the 9 dev diaries discussing the upcoming class changes (Only warden is missing at the time of writing: It will probably be out either the end of this week or the start of next week).

They are a bit vague, but until the NDA is lifted, that's pretty much all the info we've got at the moment.

    ---

For previous class changes? Doesn't seem like any of the old (Pre-Rohan) dev diaries are on the new site. This information may still be on the forums somewhere, but I don't have any links to give. Suffice to say, the changes coming in Helm's Deep are extensive, and will change each class so much as to make this information obsolete anyway.

A lot has changed, and it's best to just play and find out things along the way and chittychat them out with kinnies. You'll be back on your feet in no time.

A lot of stuff has been mentioned, but here's my bit of help: prepare for Helm's Deep.

Or in other words, if you have any characters at level 85, don't treat them as 'at level cap'. Don't buy a FA symbol for them, stuff like that. Use quest rewards because in a month Helm's Deep will come and you'll be replacing all your gear anyway. Right now, there is no end-game gear anymore.

What would be worth doing is working up crafting guild rep, if crafting is your thing.

Your character class probably looks different. Don't mind it too much, it'll look different again come Helm's Deep. Work with what you have now and worry about the new when it's really new, what you're seeing now is to be outdated.

Your virtues are different. Now there's a thing worth working! For example Zeal is now pimpsauce! Work those virtues!! Did I mention they have a raised cap too?

LI's: don't worry about improving what you have, but do collect plenty of relics to make new relics and shards for that spanky new L95 level cap.

Check out the skirmish camp for some pretty neat new cosmetic options. And if you have the mithril coins to spend, or just out of sheer interest, find Lalia's Market in Bree. Remember: cosmetics are never outlevelled with a new level cap.

And if you're nowhere near 85? Enjoy Dunland and Isengard and Riders of Rohan. Take your time and explore this forum for any questions you find along the way.

Oh I missed a real biggee! Looting rules have been changed: remote looting.

Right now, if someone else is fighting a mob, and you help them, you don't reduce their loot/XP, you both get what you would have gotten if you had solo'ed it.

That is a big improvement over 2 years ago.

    Tnx for replies guys.

I logged on the other day for a while and I really liked that new loot box :-)
I think my "main" is in the late 50s range still so I don't have to worry about stuff running out of use in end game at least.
I've been a good little life sub and bought all expansions every year when they send the "Buy now get free in game stuff". (Yeah I am sucker for in game fluff)
Have possibly got a few of my Warhammer guildies with me over as well. And so far they are enjoying it.
And my old guild has ranked it self up nicely as well
So come December I guess it's back to killing orcs instead of fighting along side them for me :-)

    Thank you!!

Thanks to all for your help! It can be pretty difficult starting an MMO again, trying to figure out how to use each character. I'm just starting from the beginning and seeing where I go.
