Summary of the basics of upcoming changes?

As a player who's been out of the game for several month's i'm kinda confused by all this talk about class changes. The twitter transcript and the individual class diary's are helping a bit, but is there any place they talk in detail about the overall basics of what they're doing on a cross class platform, or is what i found all we got?

What you've found is what is public. If you want more, find a way to get into the beta program. But if you manage that, you won't be able to tell anyone else.

Vaguest "dev diaries" ever. I felt like I must have missed some release info but nope that's it.

The dev diaries are about as specific as we know at this stage. The producer's letter earlier this year gave us the basic gist of things, which was expanded in dev chats. We will have fewer, more powerful skills and need to make choices to specialise in certain roles. The exact nature of those skills and choices remains to be seen, and I imagine some of that is still up in the air while the beta is ongoing. Hopefully they will give us a dev diary outlining the overall concept of the changes, why they were deemed necessary, how they compare to the old system, and how it will work going forward.

Actually, no. I am talking about a general dev diary outlining the overall concept of the changes, without necessarily being class specific (though some class examples would help).

Why try to read between the lines of diaries when you could get your hands on the real thing?

I wouldn't base anything on comments to Massively articles. No matter what game they are talking about, there are tons of people posting comments saying it's terrible. Some people seem to enjoy complaining.

negative voices are always the loudest ones on the forums. most people that are happy about things don't take the time to go to forums and spout off about it, they prefer to just play and enjoy. mainly those who are not happy are the ones posting. at least that's the way it seems to me. :P

My experience is most MMOs forums are this way. It's always best to take it with a grain of salt.

It's also true that most displeased people tend to walk away without saying anything at all.
Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. Do not shrink from the task so that others may feel secure, come forth and show your quality and unknowingly you will give others courage to do so as well.

Unfortunately a lot of the arguments on massively had a point, this is a rather quick expansion, we aren't getting amazing content that keeps us in game for a year or two. Don't get me wrong, I love this game, it may still be my favorite mmo despite its great and many flaws, but I'm not a fanboy, I refuse to blindly call this game amazing, and I'm not pointing anyone out on this form for doing so. In order for this game to regain its former glory, Turbine is going to have to take time and invest in these expansions if they want to attract old and new players and this seems to be one of the greatest reasons why people have left. As far as people saying that there are just bunch of complainers out there. I know a lot of people that would be considered "complainers" these people used to play the game, but moved on as LOTRO's quality began to slack off. People are just going to have to accept the fact that due to the lack of Turbine's investment, large amounts of players have switched to other games.

However, with all this being said, I don't see Turbine investing more time and resources into this game, I'm ready to bet that they will probably wrap this game up in the fourth quarter of next year, as we are almost to Mordor and the end of the LOTR story. Due to this, I do see why you would logically want to invest in something that is near its end. I hope that they invest in it anyway, I feel that, even a slight overhaul would improve this game significantly enough to bring people in.

Now I know that I have just given LOTRO a fair beating, but unlike most people who just bad mouth a game and move on, I want to help. I spend time pointing out the flaws in this game, hoping that they will be noticed and fixed. I want the best for this game, I am a huge LOTR fan so this game has some close ties to me, it also has personal ties, I got into this game during a really tough time in my life, thus I have become very attached to this game and its fan base. The best way to improve this game is to organize ourselves and try to work better with the player council, who can then in turn help turbine, there's also money involved, I'm willing to pay for an improvement, if Turbine will follow through, I'll subscribe if need be. OK, I've said enough, I need to break this ranting habit.

Also it's all subject to change before release. At this particular point in a typical beta, things are not carved in stone. So it's still a bit early really to list the fine details of class changes. So we're just getting broad overviews. When beta NDA is opened up we'll get a ton of information all at once.

    Similar to SWTOR?

Does anyone think that this is looking to be similar to the way SWTOR does its classes?

I would be very surprised if they shut the game by the end of 2014, given numerous factors:

    1. The class revamps are so big that it would not make sense to do them at all if the game's end was imminent. The changes point towards a long-term goal.
    2. We are still far from Mordor. There is little chance we would get all of Gondor and Mordor in a single expansion late next year. The fastest I can see is 2 years, but more likely 3.
    3. Turbine has an option built into its previous contract to extend the rights to 2017.
    4. Sapience has confirmed that Turbine intends to support and develop for the game for years to come, and said it can do neither without a contract extension. While not quite as clear as it could be, this certainly suggests Turbine is planning for many more years of LOTRO.
    5. We still have the third Hobbit film at the end of 2014 and its Extended Edition at the end of 2015, giving us at least two more years of Hobbit/LOTR fever, not to mention the general high interest that remains for a few years subsequent. It would make little sense for all parties involved not to attempt to capitalise on this.

You might also try clicking on the box that says an inside look at class changes on this page:

    https://www.lotro.com/en/content/revitalize-your-role

it gives some more info on the process behind the changes and a quick sample of it using the champion skills in siege of gondamon.

Looks similar to SWTOR skills to me too but looks like your skills can be quickly adjusted on the fly to get the bonuses from the various trait lines to go with your skill selection rather than having to go to a bard to reset them.
