    Connecting to patch server...failed

Yesterday, I was unable to logon to Withywindle with the error searching for logon server (attempt 20/20). Connection failed.
I tried the Nimrodel, where I have one character. This was successful and I could play a while.
I logged out and tried Withywindle. The search for the logon server started again.

Today, I am not even able to connect to the patch server. I get the message : Connecting to patch server (33%) an update error occurred:
    Server connection timed out.

Up till the September outage, I never had any problems at all. No lag, rubberbanding, black screens, disconnects.

    Please, help me

    Hi, Solihar.

Can you please try clearing out your temporary files?

So frustrating... I also just started getting this error at my apartment in China after being able to play there for months.

    Connecting to patch server (33%)
an update error occurred: Server connection timed out.

I'm able to start up lotro at work with no problem (just testing, can't play there), and elsewhere, but as soon as I try at my apartment I get this error message. Just started a couple of weeks ago.

I've "repaired", I've reinstalled, I've messed with my firewall settings, I've renamed my preferences file... = (

    PLEASE HELP...

Try working through this one first.

ED: I believe sometimes that one also may just mean the servers are down.
    Are you using Avast?
In any case, after each update you may need to remove the client/launcher from your firewall/virus real time scanner/internet security software exceptions and add them back.

Congratulations... you have found the key!

Many problems seen with both the Mac and PC Clients are truly caused by "Communications issues."
The nature of the Internet and the encrypted UDP used by LOTRO and DDO cause untold "non-obvious" problems.
The first step to fixing most of these communications issues is to get "new addresses and routes" (ARP and DHCP).
    • Power OFF your system (Do not just close the lid, shut it down completely and do not leave any programs running.)
    • Power OFF your router - unplug the power cord if you can't find a switch.
    • Wait at least one full minute!
    • Power up your router and wait until it is completely booted (typically between one and two minutes).
    • Power up your computer.
    • Launch LOTRO and try again.

This process "forces" your Router to clear its ARP cache and usually, acquire a new address from your ISP; and then your Mac or PC to obtain a new DHCP address from your router.
The few of you who have "Static Addresses" already know what I'm talking about and this article won't try to elaborate as it doesn't know your specifics.

    Hi,

Since some months, i can't log in lotro. I got the same message, Can't connect to patch server.

    I finally find the soluce.

Go to the launcher. Near the language selection, there is a small menu, click to open option menu.
Go to proxy menu and click "no proxy". Then restart the launcher.

I don't know why after some update this set up is automaticallay change change.
