    GHMS Plays the 1812 Overture

Courtesy of Captain Melanie, here is Camara's arrangement of the 1812 Overture as played by the Green Hill Music Society this week. The first "canon" salvo is at about 11:00 in--unfortunately, at that point, the audience got a bit excited and set off their own fireworks. But it still works well.

    Thumbs up

Oh, that was absolutely TOO MUCH - I mean in a very good "too much" way! What a composition! What pyrotechnics! Thank you for sharing! *Big applause*

This is wonderful; a great arrangement.

I've been working on my own arrangement of the 1812 Overture off and on for months. I've personally got a 14 part arrangement at this point - but I'm still not happy with it.

That was pretty awesome, and I can't believe I'd never checked that subforum before.
I wish more people were interested in the music system - my dream is to perform Holst's Planets suite in lotro but that ain't gonna happen.

Why not? It's been done before. And I'll probably do it myself at some point, but The Planets is pretty low on my list of things to transcribe right now. (Though I have Mars.)

I've actually been working on the Planets suite. I have Mars and Jupiter (pretty much) done, I'm also working on Saturn, Mercury and Venus. I hope to start Neptune and Uranus after those are done. Unfortunately, until the Firefern converter is back up and running, I probably won't be finishing these.

I finished a 10-part transcription of the 3rd Movement (March) from Holst's First Suite in E Flat earlier this year - turned out pretty decent, IMO.

"Jupiter" and "Mars" are also in the songbook GHMS shares with a couple other bands. Wonderful pieces!!

Regarding the "clunky" comment earlier in the thread--alas, until we get bowed instruments or a longer sustained note capability, there will always be a bit of clunkiness in any orchestral pieces.

Maybe Turbine could design a "Cloak of the Clunk" for Theorbo players ...

    Great transcription and great video.

At the risk of possible troll feeding, I will say that I find it hard to believe that comment came from a person who has actually even played around with abc conversion. If indeed he has, I'd love him to give us a link so we can hear one of his conversions, especially involving something like 10-13 instruments.

I didn't mean that it was impossible, just that I won't do it - because I don't know anyone on my server that likes classical music, and no one that shows interest in the music system. Sometimes I play some Bach or Mendelssohn in Bree, see if it stirs some interest, but it never works as well as the Rocky theme.
