    Internet connection disconnect problem

    I am using Windows 7 on a Dell Latitude D630 with 4GB RAM and a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-card

I have been having problems for several weeks; when I am logged into LOTRO, after 5-10 minutes my computer is disconnected from the internet. I am usually connected via my wireless card but it has also happened when using a wired connection. It has consistently occurred at 3 different locations (3 different routers) and it not only loses my connection to the LOTRO server but it entirely disconnects my computer from the internet, requiring a reboot in order to re-establish my connection. When disconnected, my network utility does not see any connections available.

I don't know if the two might be linked but I have also been having some problems with flash player freezing up.

    Any suggestions?

This sounds like an ISP issue.

Do the complete disconnects happen other times than when playing LotRO?

Sounds very similar to the issue described in this post on the Dell forums (http://en.community.dell.com/support.../18704980.aspx) from 2008 through 2011 (includes someone with same laptop but different wireless card). There is a possible solution involving changing a setting you might try. Let us know if it works.

Thank-you both for considering my problem.

It isn't an ISP problem because I have attempted game play via 3 different ISP's with identical results.

I checked my settings on my wireless adapter and the option to change the antenna diversity was not present. I have tried tweaking various properties of the wireless card to no effect. I have similarly gone into services.msc and made a few tweaks. Not sure yet how they will effect things.

I haven't tried removing the wireless adapter yet but I'm not hopeful there because LOTRO disconnects me even when I have a wired connection. AND, the disconnect only happens when playing LOTRO, all of the rest of the time there are no problems.

There's another possible solution that's linked from the topic Penter-Kar suggested.

It may actually be that the wireless software referred to does effect ethernet connections as well so worth a try.

I've tried removing the wireless card and re-installing and it makes no difference. I actually did have the disconnect occur once when not playing LOTRO. It occurred after having left the laptop on for 5-6 hours.

If you have Steam installed, delete and reinstall
Make sure you don't have some ecologically friendly power saving setting turned on and that you are in gaming mode if there is a setting for that in your advanced settings for your adapters, etc

Might be something of some use in here

Malware issues? Might try posting in a tech forum like this one.

    Unhappy

I haven't been able to find anything helpful there. My connection is fine for every activity except for playing LOTRO. I'm inclined to think I'll just have to give up on the game unless perhaps I buy another laptop some time in the future.
