Scenic Arda - Panoramas of Middle-Earth

Edit: I moved the images to a different image host.

The complete up-to-date gallery can be found here.

All the images on this page are thumbnails - click on them for full size.

I've had quite a bit of fun with screenshots in Skyrim, and I only just realized that I could do the same in LoTRO. Here's my first (rather mediocre but hey it's a test!) try at an LoTRO panorama-thing in Staddle. Now I'm off to SCREENSHOT ALL THE THINGS.

For a test: that looks awesome! Very nice!

Almost instantly gets a 'high design' feeling to it.

Thank you very much for your kind comment.

    Some more images-

That's how I feel everytime I go into Caras Galadhon:

    And a couple of panoramas-

I've been to Enedwaith for the first time yesterday and I have to say I was quite impressed. I didn't expect it to be anything special, some kind of region filler, but it has a great atmosphere.

And a shot of Anduin from Lorien:

I've had so many "wow" moments staring at the landscape while playing, but when it's time to pick a spot for screenshots, I can't remember any of them.
If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

    The Bird and Baby Inn

    Bag End

    Hobbiton landscape

You have a fantastic eye for picking good spots to snap your screenshots! The Staddle one is particulary nice.

I cannot wait to see what you do with the Hytbold Mead Hall.

Thanks a lot! It's funny that the Staddle one turned out so nice because that wasn't even a thought out decision. My lvl 7 alt was questing just outside that house when I realized I could make nice screenshots and I started snapping pics right there and then with no concern for the landscape. Sometimes spur of the moment is better than any planning!

I haven't even started book III yet but I can't wait to go to Rohan. I'm trying not to spoil myself with screenshots of areas I haven't visited yet but I've only heard nice things and I can definitely see a gradual increase in design quality as the story progresses. I predict some serious screenshot-ing in the coming weeks/months.

And I'm noticing that this exercise makes me appreciate the game more. Because I have to pay so much attention to every little detail to make everything come out without weird bugs, I'm seeing all the work that has gone into the models, textures placement and overall design of those places and I'm becoming way less critical of what I (unfairly) considered a poor graphical environment.

I've just started Book III and, yes, there WILL be some serious screenshotting.

Here's a sample from the last days:

    Good ol' Rivendell

    Good ol' Shire

There can never be too much Enedwaith

Working through my huge backlog of images, and making more as I'm making my way through a very impressive Rohan ~

Turbine has really done an amazing job with the dwarf areas.

    That's awesome, I'm quite flattered!
That's actually why I try to keep the files relatively big - so people can use them as wallpapers

Pray teach me how you shoot the panoramics and the fish-eyes and I'll be your e-slave

    Very beautiful work!

Because the results are so spectacular, people usually assume it's very complicated to make those panoramas, but it's actually the easiest thing in the world. Here's how I go about it:

    1) Take multiple screenshots that cover the area you want to make a panorama out of (360° in all directions if you wanna make a "planet" thingy) - make sure each screenshot overlaps the adjacent ones.
You should end up with about 25 screenshots for a complete 360° coverage:

    2) Plug all the images into Hugin, a program that is both free and excellent.
If you're lucky, it should work right away (or at least after a few generous applications of the "optimize" button). If you're not lucky, you can always tweak things manually.

[Optional] 3): Photoshop the hell out of it.

Please share your results if you want to give it a try!

Edit: you can also do this IRL of course.

Why, thanks! I'll deffo try some panoramics now

How about the fish-eye ones, ie. as in your "good old rivendell" one, how do you make them?

Just like the other ones, the only thing that changes is the projection type ("stereographic" in this case).
See, it's the program that does all the work

All your pics look great, but this is hands down my favorite!

I'm not sure if it can be done well, but you should try to capture a cool pic of a pipeweed cloud. Maybe some dragon pipeweed off the edge of a cliff or something, haha.

That's an interesting challenge. Will recruit my Dwarf companion as a model. It will be... unique.

Absolutely incredible pictures, the panorama ones in particular with the filters and tweaking look incredible.

The Dwarf panorama looks like a target render or concept art. Amazing.

Out of interest, what resolution is your game running at? They look so beyond 1080 it's crackers.

1280x1024. The top resolution on my 10-years-old screen.
Another reason for panoramas: I can never ever have those vistas on my screen (my boyfriend like to taunt me with his huge widescreen, saying he can do the same thing in one screenshot ).

On a sidenote, I have about 20 more panoramas in my WIP folder, and I haven't even started on Rohan places yet... MOAAAAR

Slowly working through my backlog, in no particular logical order...

Starting with a very special picture of Amon Hen

    Gwindeth

    Garth Agarwen

    Stangard

I'm really impressed by your images and even thinking of borrowing one of the tham mirdaim ones for a wallpaper

I was wondering if you've ever been on hollin ridge? I imagine one from there might compete with that stunning one from Amon Hen. I might try my hand at my own looks like an interesting program.

Thanks for sharing, and if you have one from the ridge it would be awesome to see
Elendilmir - 95 Hunter Berenthalion - 80ish Burg Berendybuck - baby warden Berenion.
