Attack Speed debuff only has a chance to proc. Parry bonus is active all the time.

I know what I would choose, but in no way is the weapon one should use fixed in stone. Personal preference is important too.

    spear for increased damage
sword for a slight increase in parry chance (damage mitigation)

Be aware that the parry bonus allows you to go over the 25% cap. Race of Man characters get an additional 1%, and Grand Master Weapon Training gives another 2%, so using a sword allows some characters to get their parry up to 29%.

Also, many bosses are immune to -attack speed debuffs.

That having been said, it is possible to tank anything with whatever weapon you choose. Even a frying pan.

I used to tank with a club, but recently switched to sword. Free parry is just too good for me to pass up.

For pvmp I'd recommend building a spear. You never know when one of those random spear bleeds is going to be the one to pop a stealthy pup.

Race of Man doesn't have a parry bonus. That additional 1% is coming from the Master Sword Training passive. All wardens should be able to get 29% parry.

Well, dang. I guess that's what I get for believing other posters on the Warden sub-forum.

Is the passive +1 or +2? Because lotro-wiki says GMWT is only +1% when I thought it was 2%.

My bad. +2% from Master Sword Training passive and +1% from Grand Master Weapons Training. Was thinking it all reversed. The same effect though.

A sword for tanking is by far the way to go...You can gain an additional 4% parry (29% max) which is HUGE and allows you to easily cap your avoidance. My warden has 25% block, 27% parry, and 25% evade fully buffed.

A sword might not look as good as a spear but if your tanking a sword is a must right now for the avoidance boost.
