How to properly edit MIDI files?

    Greetings everyone,

I lost all my old ABCs. No biggy you'd say, just redownload them. Unfortunately, they were of my own creation. I remember converting files into MIDI, edit them and then convert to ABC. And this is my problem, I can't remember which programs I used to produce the ABCs.
Especially the editing of midi files is where I'm struggling. I am currently figuring out MIDIEditor, but it's not... errr performant (is that a correct English term) enough. I can't seem to remove or add channels, alter measures, ... I tried Forte's tutorials, but I can't even make it to the third lesson.

So anyone care to share the software they use to edit their MIDIs? I'm not opposed to buying a licence key btw, so no need to limit yourself to freeware/opensource/... I'm mainly looking to alter the length of notes, alter the duration of breaks, copy-pasting of sequences, ...

I hope someone here is able to assist

the easiest tool to edit midi-files is the standard texteditor.
when i wrote/edited midifiles, i just used standard .txt editor and renamed them as .abc

Another option is Rosegarden ( open source Midi editor ):

I use MidiEditor 2.5.0 (there's a 3.0.0 version now) so if you're talking about the same as I am ( http://midieditor.sourceforge.net/in...category=intro ) you can of course remove or add channels or tracks et cetera.

Yup, that's the one I'm using. But how do you remove the channels on the right, the measures, ... ? Currently learning the basics of AnvilStudio. Looks promising.

In the Channels menu on top - Remove all Events from Channel 1-15. Same with the Track menu on top.
If you only need to remove some notes/events from a channel, you can simply hold down the left mouse button and drag. Then hit delete or Ctrl+C if you need to copy it to another channel.

Good luck. And do try out Rosegarden if it doesn't crash for you ... it does to some.
