IE10, ENTER, the LOTRO Forums and you

I just upgraded to IE10 and found the ENTER key does not work on the forums. This is also true for other browsers like CHROME.

I found it's a known issue with vbulletin forums and the true fix is an update to the forum editor.

There are 2 work arounds I found.

    1. Change the editor mode from WSIWYG mode to edit/standard/source mode.

For the LOTRO forums, this is the icon in the upper left menu [a/A]

    2. You can copy/paste a line with the <enter> code from another source like notepad as needed.

Hope this helps others with the same issue.
Whoever says “I” creates the “you.” Such is the trap of every conscience. The “I” signifies both solitude and rejection of solitude. Words name things and then replace them. Whoever says tomorrow, denies it. Tomorrow exists only for him who does not seek it. And yesterday? Yesterday is Kolvillàg: a name to forget, a word already forgotten.

Another alternative is to key in the carriage-return (0x0c) character by entering its ASCII code with a numeric pad:

    1. Hold down the ALT key
    2. Enter 013 via numeric pad
    3. Release the ALT key

Also, the bug does not affect Firefox.

I also discovered that the forum mailbox doesn't work with IE10. You can enter the name and subject but the text area doesn't open. The workaround is to change IE10 to compatibility mode.

At the top of the browser bar on the right side is an icon that looks like a page that's been torn in half. In normal mode this icon is grey. In compatibility mode it turns blue.

When you go to your mail box, set the compatibility mode then open the message. The layout will be funky and nothing will line up but you can type and send the message.

One tiny bit of bother is you cannot really see or preview what you type so when you look at your sent messages (provided you keep that option on) you might see some funny faces in the middle of the text. Hopefully, your recipient will be understanding that you didn't put those funny faces in the text... its a by-product of the workaround.
