Please join us for the Parade of Lights
    on Saturday, December 12 from 5:00-7:00pm EST/servertime.

The event begins with welcoming music at the Prancing Pony stage.

Beginning at 5:00pm, we will ask everyone to take out their lanterns, sparklers,
or any other item which generates light. Please bring extras to share if you have them.

We will gather in a Procession of Light, walking on foot to Bree's south gate.
From there, we will mount up on our best Yule steeds for a slow, scenic ride
to Windy Acres Ranch. We will hear some lovely music along the way.

Once we arrive at the ranch, we will enjoy music by "The Remediators".
Kiralynn will take registrations for both fashion contests. Send her a /tell to sign up.

The first contest is a horse show to crown the "Snow Lord or Lady".
Contestants will try to earn the audience votes by showing off their best white
or snow-themed outfits and matching steeds. All horses, ponies, goats,
and war steeds are allowed. First prize is 2,000 Turbine points, second prize is 1,000 TP
and third prize is 500 TP. The top three contestants will also receive their choice of a prize code.

After naming our Snow Lords and Ladies, we will move indoors and continue our event.

The second contest is a "Spirit of Yule" fashion show.
The audience will vote on the best Yule-themed outfits. The standard Windy Acres
contest rules apply (see below). First prize is 2,000 Turbine points, second prize is 1,000 TP
and third prize is 500 TP. The top three contestants will also receive their choice of a prize code.

Next, we'll hear more music by "The Remediators",
followed by a number of short Yule tales told by talented storytellers.

Finally, we will open the stage to anyone who wishes to perform a Yule song or short story.

Here is the schedule of events:
4:45pm -- At the Pony stage, music by Old Winyards.
5:00pm -- Light the lanterns. (Guests equip their sparklers and lanterns.)

Here are the cosmetic contest rules:

Contestants must go on stage only when their name is called by the host. If a contestants doesn’t respond promptly, or goes on
stage before his name is called, he will be disqualified.
Contestants will have approximately 20 seconds on stage. Each contestant should walk (or ride) onto the stage, display their
outfit, and then exit on the other side.
Each contestant can exhibit only one outfit. During the horse show, any standard or war steed can be used, including goats.

    -----------------------------------

Finally, we end this week with a little foreshadowing from Hollyberye.
    ------------------------------------

    Andune Ensemble 6 December 2015

The focus of Andune Ensemble this past Sunday was to play older gems from their vast repertoire, and by the reaction of the large (and beloved) Bree audience, it was well-received. Under the direction of Band Leader Geoffroi, Corulin, Braxwald, Floradine, Firfaron and Hollyberye played 17 lovely numbers. There were quite a few attractive, and even unusual arrangements from the hand of Keli. Other songs of note included Beorbrand’s Black Magic Woman, Tomeoric’s The Joker, Floradine’s I Can See Clearly Now, and Lithelinea’s Counterpoint.

Like any Andune Ensemble performance, we had many undercurrents…during Groovy Kind of Love, Hollyberye was so distracted composing notes of affection that she dropped her flute; we had the rockin’ Zed Bunny dancing with us onstage; the most senior Geoffroi Band Aid declared her love for the wastrel troubadour as superior to that expressed by the other Band Aids; Corulin and Braxwald were begging for free food; Floradine dropped her clarinet in a show of support for Hollyberye, who persisted with her streak of naughtiness although she could never surpass Corulin, The Ultimate Naughty Elf; Braxwald continued her outstanding clarinet tooting while endlessly multitasking; and Geoffroi’s musical talents and amazing hair continued to shine on as they no doubt will for an endless succession of performances from his simply divine afternoon band, the Andune Ensemble.

As a last note, I wish to thank Aldekim for his years of service in producing the Lonely Mountain Free Press. It was a pleasure to work with you, Aldekim. Thank you.

    V3 E42 final

    Dateline: Landroval 12/16/15

We begin this week with news from the Shire.
    ------------------------------------------

Shire Snippets--from the desk of Miss Telle

The Parade of Lights, organized by the Windy Acres Ranch, was a lovely affair. The music provided by The Remediators was quite appropriate for the festive occassion, and some glorious outfits were on show both in and out of the two contests held that night. Attendees were also treated to a few tales and poems, though I had hoped for still a few more.

Speaking of traditional things, Concerning Hobbits will be hosting their weekly Pub Party at the Bird and Baby starting at 8:30pm. Do drop by if you happen to be near Michel Delving that night.

I hear that two lasses will be holding a late afternoon game of Hiders n' Seekers this Friday, starting at 5:00pm. It's nice to see the young folk upholding traditions.

The Hobbit Hospitality folk will be offering snacks and assistance in the Shire at Andy Brockhouse's tent from 7:30-8:30pm on Friday. If you would like to join their efforts, do contact Daffodilia or Gammy.

This Friday we will have the treat of a festive Wassail in the Shire Neighborhoods. Folk are to gather outside the Shire Homestead Gate before 9:00pm. There will be a party afterwards at the Oak n' Barrel in Addernotch, located at 4 Myrtle Ct. I'm sure my invitation is in the basket of post the Quick Post failed to forward that I found piled outside my door when I came back, but I haven't yet come across it as my deadline loomed.

Forte's Music Academy continues to offer classes in Bree. They are offering the final lesson of the monthly class this week on the rear stage inside the Prancing Pony, starting at 4pm.

Saturday brings another Classy Discussion at the Oak n' Barrel. I am a bit confused about the topic. Something about Suns and Moons. I'm not sure if that's slang for something, but I certainly plan to find out! The discussion begins at 6:30pm.

When there is a Classy Discussion, it is surely followed by a Market in Bree. They'll be set up near the Boar Fountain from 8-10pm. Contact Miss Lerillos for information or to set up a booth to sell wares.

Speaking of classy things, despite some folks trying to champion red and green as this year's must have colors for Yule, my sources tell me that cool blues and crisp whites will be the better choice. For one's smial, a deeper shade of blue will help set off one's wreathes and bows with that just right feel. Just ask anyone who is anyone, and of course they'll agree!

I did hear of one Good Deed that will be taking place on Sunday. Seems those no good Bounders may be of some use, afterall. They will be delivering chickens to the hobbits of Great Hole. Apparently they had some issues with their Yule chickens arriving on time, so at least this way they can still enjoy a fine Yule Supper. They will gather at Sandson's Farm at 7:00pm, and set out soon after. Chicken Tenders of appropriate skill are requested to help get all chickens there safely. A fishing party is planned afterwards.

Next Monday, Ales 'n Tales will be heading to Winterhome, as Yule Festival should have begun once again. Nibbles n' Nobs will start at 8:30pm, with the main show starting at 9:30pm.

On Tuesday the Green Hill Music Society will again be playing outside the Bird n' Baby at 9:00pm. I will be at a special dinner that eve, so dance a dance for me if you go.

After much thought, I simply must say that I opened the second saddest note I ever did receive in the post after returning from taking care of family matters in the South Farthings. It seems our esteemed Editor, having failed to appoint an Editor-in-Chief he could then promote up when the time came, has instead decided to close one of the finer establishments of information dissemination the Shire and Middle-Earth in general have known for many years now. As my late Gammer used to say, "All good things come to an end." Yet, I still feel that such an action deprives the public of much needed news and information. I highly doubt that Mayor Tenderlarch is the sort who would pay any mind of a letter campaign that came from the Shire, as we fall outside his voting area. Still, perhaps the doors closing at the Lonely Mountain Free Press may in time open another once longing grows strong enough. Time will tell.

I also want to disspell any rumors folk may have heard that the absence of my column these last few weeks was a direct contribution to the LMFP's fall. It may be true that circulation dropped off in a noticeable way without the support of my column, and it is definitely flattering that some think so, but it's certainly not my fault as it was not an intentional action on my part. So stop sending me letters complaining of such, thank you very much! If anyone should be getting letters of complaint, it's the Quick Post and Mayor Whitfoot.

    Treasure Tidings ~by Shinies

So there I was, lost in the Trollshaws. Then I come across a Ranger at a campfire. We get to talking, and when I finally mind my manners and introduce myself, he then reached around and pulled out a note from his satchel and hands it to me, as casual as ya please.

Golly, I'd been so tied up tryin' to find Mister Bingo (aye, I lost him again) that I had forgotten all about making sure if my letters were getting through, and sure enuff, they got just as lost as I was. There was a note from Mister Aldekim, tellin' me only one chance remained to share my Treasure Tidings, so could I manage to get at least this last one to him? It was then that I looked off in that vast forrest, quickly scribbled a note I handed over fer Mister Bingo to the Ranger, and followed the path he had pointed out back to the Great East Road. I headed west until I could find a Post Box. There aren't really many in the wilds, ya know. I shoulda known that the burds I was usin' weren't of any use since they's not pidgeons. Anyhoo, here it is, my last report.

I did manage to find out that a group called the Oceanic Warriors are setting out with an all hands availble at first light each day (6:00am) at some Deepin' Wall somewheres far to the East. I don't know enuff yet what their aims are, but my pa always said "The Early Burd Gets the Jump on Other Treasure Seekers," so I bet their name is really code fer water excursions fer sunken treasure! I wonder if they use those special cave-claws fer that?

Word is I missed the most recent Treasure Hunt in Ered Luin, and the despair in my heart, thinking on all the berry ice I missed made me three times as mad at Mister Bingo. I hope at least some a' ya had a fine time, and meybbe, jes meybbe, one a' ya thought a' me when ya ate yers.

From what little word I've been able to gather out here, the Second Servings folk are gearing up to finish off what they started in Bree-Land, and are eyeing other destinations in the near future. They'll meet at 3pm today, though I'm not rightly sure where. Then again t'morrow at 8:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. Send out a carrier pidgeon to Cindersoot iffin' ya can't find 'em and want to, or try /joinchannel Club-Eclair as another way to keep tabs on them if you have the channel to spare.

The Eclair folk were at one point considered MIA, but fortunately, I have heard they managed to emerge from quite the battlefield victorious. I sure hope the treasures they found there were worth it! They'll muster Saturday at 9am, and the Monday after at 8:30pm. If ya like slower paced adventures, and are near or at 45 trainings, drop Alphred a post.

The Good Deeds folk have the week off on accounta' Market on Saturday. Next week will be their Instance Night at 8pm, meeting at Musterin' Hill.

Sunday, Mister Filidor's Army (100 trainings) continues to meet weekly. They meet at Musterin' Hill at 1pm and then decide where to go adventure. They have been Battling Big of late.

All I've been able to hear about the Ruthless Raiders--formerly and hopefully futurely known as Ruthie's Raiders--is they still meet in Mirkwood on Sundays at 6pm. I heard something about some fortress or castle, but it wasn't a source I know well, so I don't know how well to trust that. Iffin' ya'd like to help them in their efforts and are of 60-70 trainings, contact Ayrhawk.

I have no word at all on how the Iron Horse folk are doing. Dang this lack of Post Boxes in this forrest! Hopefully, they's all well and will break camp Tuesday at 9:00pm, then head out a half hour later or so. Remember, it's all in the past: "The winter of 2989 brought some of the most brazen and disturbing horse thefts in the Mark’s recent memory. King Théoden called upon his brother-in-law Gothred and granted him the title Second Marshal so that Gothred could muster a full Éored: Iron Horse." Contact: Baronkio.

Tarnished Treasure! I guess I can't really say my usual "Until next week--keep yer picks sharp and yer trained cave-claws fed!" since this is the last issue, but keep em sharp and fed anyways! They's good Treasure Huntin' habits. Well, on that note, I guess I best head back out to try to find Mister Bingo...wish me luck!

From the desk of Aldekim Etal

A little over two and three quarter years ago Doribolger ended his time as a reporter for the Landroval Times. At that time I took over and began the Lonely Mountain Free Press. My stated intention from the beginning was to help Landroval folks find out about concerts and special events going on.

At that time there were something like half a dozen weekly shows and events and another half dozen or so groups putting on shows and events from time to time. Keeping abreast of these shows and events was not too difficult. Since then things have changed dramatically. I am now aware of at least 49 bands performing on Landroval (and likely more that I do not know of). The number of weekly and other special events has grown similarly.

That said, I no longer feel I can keep folks in touch with what is happening. Moving forward these past few months it strikes me coverage in the Free Press has begun to favor those events put on by people who have been here a long time. That coverage then tends to work against the many fine new folks who have come to Landroval from servers that are shutting down.

For that reason I have decided it is time for the Free Press to end its' run.

I would like to thank the many folks who have contributed material to the Free Press, and I would also like to thank the many readers who have stopped by to read it.

I know these things happens. Life changes, amusements eventually become more labour than love. Best to discard the milk before it spoils, lest memories of the sweet turn sour as well.

I am grateful for what LMFP has brought me every week. Next Wednesday will feel a little empty.

To you, Aldekim, I put forth this challenge (well, really just a suggestion): write a LMFP retrospective. Take a stroll down Memory Lane by browsing through the archives and a write a final editorial (okay, second final, because you already just published the First Last Editorial(TM)) about noteworthy/interesting changes/happenings over the years for LMFP, the music/social community and perhaps the game in general. Unless, of course, you're also dropping your "Chronicler" title. (*poke* *jab*)

I find my sense of history severely lacking, and would love to hear the reminiscenceses of "dems what was dere".

And how about a reprint of the very first issue of LMFP (if you have it)? (Or, if LMFP is a relatively recent direct descendent of a much older publication, perhaps an issue of that.)

I have to say that I have always been quietly in awe of your ability to continue writing long after the Landroval Times folded. Attending all of the events, writing them up in such a manner that you avoid wrath and fury of any performer that feels slighted over not being mentioned, or being mentioned too frequently. You have done it all with the greatest of graces. The service you provided was an amazing resource for newcomers and veterans alike. Your LMFP will be sorely missed!

Contributions like these from an incredibly gifted player-base are what set Landroval apart, not just from other LOTRO servers but from other online communities writ large. Thank you to all who were involved with this project, and know that you've inspired future players to carry on the torch!

The void is already filled. I refer you to the all new Landy Lately appearing for the first time today in these forums.
