Interest Check: Dunadan Kin - "Arnor in Exile"

    Hello folks,

I am doing my best to wade into the pool of starting up my own kin. My new alt Fallador is a Ranger that protects the Shire[honestly I got the 'Dunadan bug' playing through the volume 3 epics and I'm not ashamed to say it!] and I want to start a kin with him.

My general idea for it is for it to be a general collection of Dunadan[not *necessarily* Rangers] that are scattered throughout Eriador; they aren't necessarily a group ICly, but every week or so there's a general muster that they all attend to bring to attention things that are going on in the area they are protecting. This is where members of the kin can put their events forward.

All levels will be welcome and honestly I'd love to have other low-level alts like Fallador in the kin so we can level up together as a group doing Ranger stuff ICly[I might have to invest in an exp disabler for this ] I'm posting this because frankly I have never lead any sort of guild in any game and need some help getting it started.. mainly I need eight people who don't mind having a complete dummy .. me .. for a kin leader!

For a tasting of my plans, some ideas I have for events are:
    An arc involving defending Annuminas
    A skirmish at Adso's Camp
    The Second Battle of Archet!
An adventure in Forochel to rescue a Ranger held captive by Angmarim

Please post here telling me what you think, you can also send me a tell on Dabornbor[I'm on him much more than I will be Fallador until I get this kin running. I would prefer you post here though.]

Lore-wise, i won't say a word for i'm not a specialist and i don't like the fanaticism, so i will just give my opinion technically :

It's an idea which seems full of potentials and possibilities, you already have listed some.
Now there are a couple of practical problems you'll have to face and solve with your recruits :
    1) Leveling together in the long term is rarely possible, for not everyone is willing to wait one week until the next session to level their character if they like it. The temptation is too big.
    2) You should think about a way to handle the unavoidable paradoxes in the game. Example : IC, your characters are defending a certain part of the world (Shire etc). But every characters need to go in every areas of the world to level up. How will you handle that ? For now the IC areas are maybe the same than the leveling areas of your characters, but it won't be like tat forever. What with Moria and beyond, until Rohan ?
If you invent a quest which will bring your chars there, then you won't be defending the Shire anymore.
If you use the official epic arc, then you fall fully into the biggest paradox of the game : Everyone is THE unique heroe who has reopened the doors of Moria, killed the big dragon, fought the nazgul, etc... why not for a fully private group, but this is not really a viable option if you intend to have an IC public life.
Some rp kinships choose the "semi-OOC" option : For example most of the roleplaying hobbits community roleplay that they are living their quiet and innocent life of hobbit in the Shire. But of course they also level and group, and they can even roleplay while they do it, but these adventures are not part of their official roleplay : if you ask one of these hobbits how was his/her trip to mirkwood, all you will get is a "eh ? mirkwhat" ? Even if this char has completed every quests and instances in this area. It's just another aspect of the game, which they will enjoy as well, but which they can't integrate to their main roleplay, it would not be logical., unless you go for my first proposition which is to invent a personnal story that will explain why your char/group will travel all along the world (mostly following the npcs' quests progression). It'll be easier for some rangers than for some hobbits
But remember, roleplayers or not, not everyone will have the same leveling rythm, and that will be your main problem to solve.
That said i find your idea interesting and totally doable, and wish you success and fun with it !

Thank you so much for the feedback,

But of course they also level and group, and they can even roleplay while they do it, but these adventures are not part of their official roleplay : if you ask one of these hobbits how was his/her trip to mirkwood, all you will get is a "eh ? mirkwhat" ? It'll be easier for some rangers than for some hobbits
This is generally what I meant. Please trust me, I have NO intentions of taking a bunch of people through Moria or Dunland or any other quest arc completely IC

For your point on everyone going somewhere to level, I realize that and do not intend for that at all. If we're going to be defending the Shire(for example) it will be through an event -for example, if there was an event attacking a goblin camp in Bindbole Wood, we wouldn't just go in there and shoot up the greys and be done with it. The events involving combat are going to be text based, monster and player level is not going to matter. The *main* adventures are not going to be running around doing quests together, they will be the events. So.. basically like most other kins , but I guess I produced a faulty description. that's another example that I have no idea what i'm doing with leading a kin, I already fouled up advertising of it

The true bottomline is: I want to start a med-heavy RP Dunadan kin, no more no less.

I can't say I've had much experience when it comes to Dunedain but I have seen a few Dunedain kins in the past and most them didn't last, the main flaw I saw in most them was that they were too open about their heritage and went around The Pony spouting on about it and voicing their nobility. The idea sounds pretty good but just remember that Dunedain are generally humble people and keep to themselves so if you were talking to other players you wouldn't make it blatantly obvious.
Dunedain usually have Sindarin names as well so I would recommend looking into a more lore-appropriate name than a city from runescape. :P

Yes your right, 90% of the Dunedain kinship just end up hanging around the Prancing Pony. They all start with wonderfully crafted epic backstories and what not, but then just decend into yet another man kinship who hang around the Pony in hooded cloaks.

All i say is think about if first, or perhaps join one of the other established kinships. Not everyone can be a kin leader you know.

So there is no good RP-Rangers/Dunedain kinship?
    Just Breengers?

Prancing Pony should be burned to the ground ^^
