Update error?

Whenever I open the launcher, it sort of freezes for several minutes, then it states 'an update error occurred:" and that's it, it then continues to cycle through retrying until I turn it off, I've left it on for almost 30 min doing that. If anyone has any way to fix, please let me know, thank you.
