First song from 'The Hobbit' released

(EDIT: Sorry -- aethelberht here, Long-timer from '07, dropped off lately. Posted using wrong account.)

From Neil Finn. Hear it courtesy of Rolling Stone: http://www1.rollingstone.com/hearitnow/player/neilfinn.html

    My 1st attempt at lyrics:

"Far over the Misty Mountains’ rise
Leave us standing upon the height.
What was before, we see once more,
Is our kingdom, a distant light.

    Fiery mountain beneath the moon.
The words unspoken, we’ll be there soon.
For home is on, the day goes on
And all who find us will know the ???.

    Some folk we never forget.
    Some kind we never forgive.
Haven’t seen the back of us yet.
We’ll fight as long as we live.

All eyes on the hidden realm.
    To the Lonely Mountain...
    We’ll ride the gathering storm
Until we get our long-forgotten home.

We lay under the Misty Mountains cold
In slumbers deep, and dreams of gold.
We must awake, our lives to make
In the darkness a torch we hold.

From long ago, when mountains weren’t
Until this day, our hearts have yearned.
    A fate unknown, the Arkenstone.
What was stolen must be returned.

We must away, and make the day
To find our song for heart and soul.

    Some folk we never forget.
    Some kind we never forgive.
Haven’t seen the end of it yet.
We’ll fight as long as we live.

All eyes on the hidden door
    To the lonely mountain.
    We’ll ride the gathering storm,
Until we get our long-forgotten home.

Far away from Misty Mountains cold."

It's a good song. Very psyched.

"I know what I hate. And I dont hate this", no cringe factor here, Neil Finn is incapable of writing a bad tune, lets hope this isnt the highlight of the Hobbit.

hey aethelberht, long time no see....
....and yes, it's a pretty good song, echoes the dwarves song well without being a rip-off.
I think the word you had marked with question marks is 'tune'.

    Heya!

I think you're right. I have a hunch those two lines should read:

"For home a song, that e'er goes on,
And all who find us will know the tune."

I'm excited for the movie. Hard to believe it'll be another two years before we reach its' end!

I kind of like this version, although I find it a sad fact that he has altered the lyrics. Also, this is not an official version for the movie, right...?
The Road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can.

There's two versions in the movie, Thorin sings one and that longer (?) version comes along with the end credits.

Or is first version just shorter version of the latter?

Song by Thorin is propably the most touching moment in the film by the way...
