    Good enough for me. I was going for Cuiviénen specifically, but you’re basically there:

    “...in that hour the Children of the Earth awoke, the Firstborn of Ilúvatar. By the starlit mere of Cuiviénen, Water of Awakening, they rose from the sleep of Ilúvatar; and while they dwelt yet silent by Cuiviénen their eyes beheld first of all things the stars of heaven.”

    OK, here comes the next one:

    three times overpriced
    ............................ missed a putt.........................At a Dead & Co. show on a Mexican beach............ another Dead & Co. show at the same beach a year later
    ......................................................
    The real Boraxxe... wearing his "Get off my lawn!" face and his "I smoked my lawn" face, and yes, that's a banana, no, I'm not happy to see you.
    If it's not dangerous, it's not fun!

    I looked at different ways to phrase this riddle and always came up with something a bit ambiguous.
    As a first hint I will just clarify this:

    It does not refer to something that was overpriced 3 times, but something that was priced at 3 times it's value.
    ............................ missed a putt.........................At a Dead & Co. show on a Mexican beach............ another Dead & Co. show at the same beach a year later

    Shot in the dark. The fish in Gollum’s cave (apologies for the long quote):

    “Suddenly without any warning he trotted splash into water! Ugh! it was icy cold. That pulled him up sharp and short. He did not know whether it was just a pool in the path, or the edge of an underground stream that crossed the passage, or the brink of a deep dark subterranean lake. The sword was hardly shining at all. He stopped, and he could hear, when he listened hard, drops drip-drip-dripping from an unseen roof into the water below; but there seemed no other sort of sound.
    “So it is a pool or a lake, and not an underground river,” he thought. Still he did not dare to wade out into the darkness. He could not swim; and he thought, too, of nasty slimy things, with big bulging blind eyes, wriggling in the water. There are strange things living in the pools and lakes in the hearts of mountains: fish whose fathers swam in, goodness only knows how many years ago, and never swam out again, while their eyes grew bigger and bigger and bigger from trying to see in the blackness; also there are other things more slimy than fish.”

    The Hobbit
    By John R R Tolkien
    “...and he lived happily ever after, to the end of his days”

    I would say Bilbo falling on barrel into river in Felegost.

    From Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien:

    Now the very last barrel was being rolled to the doors! In despair and not knowing what else to do, poor little Bilbo caught hold of it and was pushed over the edge with it. Down into the water he fell, splash! into the cold dark water with the barrel on top of him.
    He came up again spluttering and clinging to the wood like a rat, but for all his efforts he could not scramble on top.

    their ceilings drip: This could refer to the barrels, because all dwarves were wet at the end.

    single sickle candle: This could refer to the Bilbo, because althought there were dwarves, he felt alone (all of them were packed in barrels) and because of cold water he got sickly.

    I'm afraid everyone is on the wrong track.
    The lines/phrases I have noted are all from a Tolkien work that is on the 'canon' list from up-thread, but it is not one of the more well-known ones.

    Beyond the Merlock Mountains, a long and lonely road,
    Through the spider-shadows and the marsh of Tode,
    And through the wood of hanging trees and gallows-weed,
    You go to find the Mewlips - and the Mewlips feed.

    Hmmm...
    Moon letters...the text written with silver pens using Ithildin.
    These letters can only be seen by reflected moonlight or starlight.

    Written with moon-letters on Thror's Map: "Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks and the setting sun with the last light of Durin's Day will shine upon the key-hole."

    Ha...it's a bit of wordplay.

    message = fax (facsimile)
    penumbra = shadow

    Reverse those and you get;
