Just how good are hunters in mounted combat

I haven't heard this discussed yet. I was led to believe by the dev team that we are avenging angels on horseback.. we won't be in PVMP and I am hearing that burgs, champs and again rks are at or above our dps outputs in PVE. So the big seller was mounted combat... what are we like?

    Thumbs up

I can only say from a hunter perspective as I have not tried the other classes in beta yet that we are better on mounts then on foot as we can move while pew-pewing and we don't even need to be directly facing our pray.

Moving while shooting? Not having to face the enemy?

I actually saw a video (its at the bottom of the page) http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/45/feature/6581. Its like an hour of some guy playing hunter in the beta on horseback. It frankly convinced me to come back. It seems at this point that we will finally have a use for our long range and if our cc works on horseback well thats just scary. From what I see we have our skills + the mounted skills while on horseback. Triated right we can even get a self heal while mounted.

    But...

if we can do a move like swift bow on a horse and shoot at weird angles then why can't we do it on foot? What inhibits us to be able to be able to shoot on the move on a horse and not while running?

I thought mounted combat on hunter rather fun and easy (I think I got a blind warsteed though). Apart from colliding with everything I thought it was easy to fight mounted for a hunter (the collisions might be more due to my riding skill than the class though :P)

However, I had fun fighting mounted mobs on foot too though (shoot at distance, wait for the charge and dodge to the side, then turn and fire again )

Sorry, that video is not what we've seen in recent builds - skills you see on quickbar are only using old icons, probably placeholders. Using ISB as someone suggested is not exactly possible as there are dedicated MC ones instead Riding around and using speed & range part is correct - to the point I consider it too repetitive and mobs too helpless. But we'll see - can't offer more without spending some time in a group.

Mounted combat on a hunter is fun!!! I spent several hours riding, shooting, looting and just having a great time. If you know a little bit about strafing, it is easy to keep your hunter within your 180 degree facing your target aspect. It may look like an odd angle but it is no different that if you were on the ground. Strafing counter-clockwise looks better than clockwise because you are firing off the left hand side of your mount. I traited my horse as a light, agile horse and had no trouble turning or pivoting to face another target. I enjoyed the ranged, mounted combat so much that I'm sure my hunter will be my first to 85 and also the first to have most of the slayer deeds completed, even if I don't need the virtue.

It's a lot like being a mounted Mongolian archer- A.K.A badass.

But I personally would like to see a mixture of melee and ranged encouraged for Hunter mounted combat. Such as the few melee skills giving you a ranged damage buff or something when you use them.
