Question The Empty Elven Lands? (Landroval)

As a seasoned Warcraft veteran (forgive me, it was very habitual) I've come from a game where racial zones are used quite often in roleplay (trolls in the troll zone, tauren in the tauren zone), but Warcraft has pretty much lost its favor as far as I'm concerned. I have a level 63 hunter here in LoTRO and I absolutely love the game. The quest lines are new and fun for me, I find it to be a much better challenge in all respects and let's not forget the breathtaking graphics. I used to be a subscriber until financial reasons bade me to go back to FTP, but I'll soon be subscribing again and really getting back into the game, as well as trying to work my way into and be a part of the RP community (slowly yet surely).

But that brings me to my original point- the racial lands. I always see plenty of activity around Bree and the Shire (who doesn't love the Shire?) but so little activity in the Elven lands of Rivendell, Lothlorien and even Mirkwood. While I understand that RPing in Lothlorien can be difficult due to the reputation factor, it's rare to see any active RP'rs in those lands. It might be the time I play (4pm to 12 am, EST in North America, ironic I'm on a EU server), but is it something else?

I thought I'd ask the players as a whole; are the Elven lands empty because of unwant, or because Bree has become such a central hub?

Rivendell is so sprawling that it's hard to find a convenient place for RP; same with Lothlorien (made worse by the rep issue). I did see RP in Mirkwood when the zone was fairly new, but it's something of a cul-de-sac these days so I would expect there to not be the population for it.

When you add all these factors to the fact that Bree and/or Michel Delving are both known to be popular RP spots, I suspect it's just naturally easier for RP to gravitate to there.

People seem to default to Bree for RP, and for me that is less than satisfactory for elvish roleplay. But without some intervention on your part, to help create events to draw players to elven lands, you are unlikely to see much change.

Might I recommend that you see if you can create some sort of semi-regular open elvish RP event to get the ball rolling on Landroval? Don't overlook the elvish areas in Ered Luin – they are accessible to all players in a way that Lorien, Mirkwood and even Rivendell are not.

^That is a true point. In the anniversary festival, I wanted the fireworks around ME quest completed, but I couldn't because my level was much too low to get to Rivendell.

Starting events is a good way to go about changing it.

I have many elves in my character stable and all of them would love to do some RP. I'll keep an eye out for such events!

Agreed with this. Elf RP is awesome, but I haven't found anyone on Landroval who is interested. Even low-level areas like Celondim/Duillond, which are accessible to all characters, are seriously lacking in Elven roleplayers. I love playing Elf characters but I ultimately end up sacrificing my roleplay experience because I don't feel "right" playing my characters in Bree or the Shire.

Maybe a global chat channel for Elf roleplayers would be a good idea. Elf players would be able to chat OOCly and meet up in Rivendell and the like for some roleplaying - not as spontaneous as roleplaying in Bree, but at least it's something. Also, I'm always open to roleplaying whenever I'm in-game - just send a tell to Emlissel or Dessuidhiel.

Thanks for posting this thread, Ellinderon. I'm happy to see some interest and I hope we can get some Elves together for RP.

    Thumbs up

I'm glad to see people responded! You all voiced about events around the lower level Elven lands, and that actually sounds like a perfect idea.
As for making a global chat channel, I'm not sure how to technically do so. The invitation is open to any and all who would like to do it and pass the channel information on for anyone who cares to know it. But, a future event will definitely be on my mind for a later date (or when everyone is done with the spring festival).

I'm game for Elven RP, too. Even though I'm mostly on my Rohir, I would like some decent Elf RP with my Champ, Gilglir. If no one else minds, I'll go ahead and create a channel for Elvish OOC and coordination next time I'm on him. I think I'll call it Eldalie (yes, I know it should be Eldalië, but the English client doesn't take too kindly to diacritical marks).

Well, the Eldalie channel is made! Feel free to join it when next you're on. I've got some ideas for semi-regular Elven RP, but I'd like to run it by the community as a whole before I say anything.

Color me baffled! Is Landroval the English language RP server? I was told go to Laurelin for RP, but they're all in Europe so I never see them (USA west here). I'd love to join you up for Elf RP, but I hate to start all over yet again in a server where I never see the same people twice.

It's a coin-toss. Laurelin has a good RP community, but as it was a European server originally, the EU players have had a head start getting organized. I also play on Laurelin (Eastern time, but I am a night-owl) and would love to see more elvish activity as well. Maybe we should get something going there?

Feel free to look me up in Laurelin, Withywindle, Imladris and now finally in Landroval as well.

In both Landroval and Laurelin I am Rhavanielle. I have lots of other toons as well but that's an easy way to catch me.

I went ahead and created a mirror chat on Laurelin, as well. So if you /joinchannel Eldalie when you play on Laurelin, perhaps we can connect. Or feel free to look for Tindello, Tavelorn, Timmon or Raunwen, or for someone shorter, stockier and bearded, Grimgri.

Perfect! I've already gone ahead and joined the channel. I hope to see you all in it as I push the leveling grind wheel. Feel free to add me to your friends list if you so choose, my character name being (of course) Ellinderon. I am currently only on Landroval, which is the server that I was first introduced to when I started the game, but may very well branch out to Laurellin as well.

It is so good to have seen this! I have found elf-RP nearly non-existent except for few rp stuff. I'll join this channel as soon as I am on. Alastegiel or Yasiel on Laurelin or Aelldur on Landroval. I hope we make elf rp more alive!

Landroval is mostly NA English RPers, while Laurelin is mostly EU English RPers-- but there are plenty of both of the other on both servers, too. I stick to Landroval, myself.

I have an Elf parked in Rivendell. If you would like some RP with her, send me a message here on the forums or ingame on my main, Laerlin. I can provide a port with Laerlin as well. I love me some Elf RP. I'll be sure to tell folks who I know play Elves as mains, on Landy.

There was a time on Landroval when there were several Elven kins and quite a lot more Elven RP. It has dwindled away over the years and I'm not really sure why. Newly formed Elven kinships don't tend to last very long and attempts at regular Elven events generally fall apart quickly. Even at my occasional one off Elven themed events, most of the attendees are from other races.

Elven RP is the only type of RP I've ever been interested in so I'd love to see a resurgence of it and I'll do anything I can to help it happen. I've joined the channel on Landy. Feel free to chat up/approach my characters Fionulea, Aveldro and Lirazel should you see them about.

Well, I was thinking of working on leveling my Rohir tonight, but I'll log my Elf instead so we can see what we can work out. In addition, as I mentioned in another thread, I was thinking about making a Dúnedain/Elf kinship, if I have enough interest.

I might pick up the speed on my Elf character, to hop over and join y'all. I'll post his name here once I get a good one. I doubt Cirthrondal counts as a good one.

I too have been less than satisfied with Elf RP over the years, and have been away from the game for some time now. I've been thinking of getting back into it, and a resurgence in elven RP is just what the doctor ordered. I need to update my software before logging on again, but plan to do so soon. How is the channel (and subsequent RPs) coming along?

  24. #24
I'm going to defer to others to answer that, as I've mostly been running my Rohir. I'm going to start logging my Elf more though, so I'm hoping to see a decent number of people on the channel. Regardless, though, we should hit up those Andúnië concerts on Thursdays in Falathlorn.
