    "Welcome to Laurelin!" Thread

New to Laurelin and want to introduce yourself? Why not do it here? Say hello to us, and tell us of what you're looking forward to when you start RPing, PvMPing, or Doing Endgame content with us Laureliners! No matter be you Elf, Man, Dwarf, or Hobbit, you will always be welcome on the Laurelin Server.

I'll start off. Just for the record my siggy picture is that of my Elven Character on Gilrain. My most often played (and more known I daresay) is Daerundros. I started playing on Laurelin early March and I'm still hooked. I'm originally an immigrant from Gilrain (awaiting Asylum papers to be cleared xD), but I came over after the call of RP appealed to me too much.

    Welcome to Laurelin!

I too am awaiting my 'asylum papers' to make the move from Snowbourn to Laurelin. I'm moving for the much more immersive RP aspect to the game.

My character is a Lore Master who originated from the Kingdom of Gondor. Currently his is named Silranhir but I'll be changing that name when I move. I guess I'll see you in there soon

    Re: "Welcome to Laurelin!" Thread

Just wanted to say 'Hello' to everyone on this server.
I've just rolled an Elf Guardian under the name of Woolwen..it's a 'she' as I feel it will help me to role play something other than my normal self, usually grumpy and blunt after a tiring day at work
I was playing on the Vilya server before with some great people in the kin the Last Alliance, but alas, it was a US server and the timezone thing caused me to miss out constantly on some fun events.

I'm still working on the background to the story of Woolwen, as her Kin comes from Lorien (I regret choosing that now)
After having spent the first years of her life surrounded by the beauty and knowledge the Quendi have created, her bliss is ultimately shattered, as one morning a rider brings ill tidings to her kin - in that her father had been slain in battle.
Woolwen had not seen her father in years and to hear that he had been slain afar in a land she neither knew or heard of made her determined to learn more. Once the details revealed, Woolwen was silent for many days to come, as she tried to imagine that her father had fought the evil that was threatening the very existence of Middle Earth, but more importantly, that he had stood alongside a vast army comprised of Elves from numerous regions, an army of Men, determined to protect their lands and their families and even the proud dwarfs who had come to assist.
Woolwen realised that she could no longer continue her way of life knowing that her father had died for a belief alongside so many. Even as many elves were preparing to journey west, she could not abandon the people of Middle Earth to the approaching darkness that threatened all. So with no more thought to the matter, she selected one of her father's shields and swords and bade farewell to those that she loved, and alone, set out along the road that would bind her to her destiny. An oath sworn never to rest as long as she could wield a sword.

and so it goes.. nothing novel I'm afraid..but I'll work on it.
Look forward to meeting some of you.. and to find a kin like the one I had before.

    Welcome to Laurelin.

Wooly, you aren't the only "RP cross dresser" in game there are lots playing female or male characters opposite to their RL gender. Most of the time you wouldn't know.

I've been on Laurelin from my first week in Lotro, a very brief stay on Snowbourn (I think it was 3 days) before I heard about what Laurelin was all about. I re-rolled and never looked back.
You will find many helpful folk on the server, whatever your game style,.

This week is a little odd (as are all launch weeks) where the RP is a little disrupted by folk wanting to see the new areas. Don't let this put you off *grin*

Please remember to attend the Race specific weekly/bi-weekly events since these can give a great taste of the RP on offer here.

    Most of all, have fun!

I'll add a special hello to those who are coming from Snowborne. I also originally started there many years ago now, but i just could not settle down there so started again on Laurelin and have been here ever since.
I have never regretted that decision once.

Feel free to IM me if you have any questions, or need any help.

    Re: "Welcome to Laurelin!" Thread

Hello from Regfred and Finothric, my two lowly Champions, and Sarawise, my lowly Captain (and the other 8 crafting and housekeeper alts). I have been playing on and off on Snowbourne in the greatest Kinships of all, The Last Alliance, but on my latest trip to Middle-Earth I decided that I will give Laurelin another try.

Even thought I still don't have time to stop and roleplay properly, I have been very happy to notice the roleplaying going on when I pass by. It really makes the world feel alive when I walk through the Pony and there isn't a Dwarf in a dress dancing on the table shouting "LOLOLOLLOL" (well it COULD be roleplaying a moron crossdresser, but they definitely are male, not female. A male Dwarf would not wear a dress even if the other option would be naked), but instead people talking and playing music. Huge difference to immersion.

At the moment I am establishing my crafting for some small income, and to be able to make myself gear. It's slow going that route, but I prefer to be a "self-made man". Also there are very little decently priced gear on AH, even if there even are any.

I have my own duo-Kinship, as I still think the Last Alliance is and will be the only Kinship I will ever be a member of.

I have always had immersion as the most important thing to me, and I can spend hours sitting on the grass in the shadows of the trees, just watching how magnificent and beautiful the Middle-Earth really is.

One thing I have wondered about is if people wouldn't mind me stopping to watch them roleplay without joining in myself? I am a perfectionist, and wouldn't want to start before I feel more comfortable and actually have enough time to dive in fully. Also I am quite slow at typing if it's not the "basic stuff" of "Hi, how are you", not being a native English speaker...
Bravery calls my name, in the sound of the wind in the night. My sword will drink blood, and I will fight, yes I will fight, in the Dawn of Battle!

    Re: "Welcome to Laurelin!" Thread

how nice a change to say welcome to you all ^^

I have been on Laurelin since the day Lotro launched in the EU...

i have very much been enjoying the RP on Laurelin, but luckily the game itself is very much enjoyable for me aswell..

i try to devide what little time i have between RP and PvE, on occassion i run into ettens for a small PvMP session.

as of late much more time has gone into PvE because of all the new stuff to do... but RP will always be my main motivation for staying in Laurelin playing this Game..

who knows we might meet IC...

And to answer the question from Henshaw, no i would not mind... and i'm sure most i RP with would not mind either...
I love it when people just stop by to listen in on RP without them interacting with us, this is by far the best way to learn how to RP.

Sometimes i would check to see if the person listening in is there IC or not, if i would discuss a private delicate matter i would not want people to overhear it.

    Cheers F.

Hello from Thilmariel, my elven hunter.
First time for me on a MMORPG but a long time RL roleplayer . I'm currently learning how this game works and need a lot of helps. I think I got the basics, I crafted my first object yesterday .

First question is where I can find other people, I'm in Celidon and I saw few people around (maybe was the daytime). Are them in other cities? I will meet lot of people as I finish the Epic intro and go to Bree?

I really liked to hear that people allow to listen how to RP without asking to talk in the middle, since I'm not elvish (english) native, some listening could do a good use. For the one interested I'm Italian and this leads to second question, is english the only language speakable on server? or we could speak another language with friends?

That's all for now, see you online

    Re: "Welcome to Laurelin!" Thread

Well, in Celondim not much tends to happen from an RP perspective, but of course, we still have Duillond, Rivendell, Mirkwood, Lothlorien...

I recommend refraining from RPing an Elf in Bree at the moment. It generally tends to strike as odd to many Role-players. However, that doesn't mean you can't RP in there It's a bit of a challenge to RP Elves in Bree in a way that most people would find acceptable, unless you're one of those passing-by Elves who're on their way from Lindon to Rivendell and vice versa

You might be also interested in checking out a few Elven Kinships if you're looking for some serious Elven RP! We have many great Elven RP kinships in here. Just to note a few:

    Vanimar
    Laiquendi Order
    Warband of Imladris
    Kinn-Lai
    Loth I Lonnath

And as for language, most of us here tend to speak English when RPing. However, I see no problems RPing in another language when you're with friends.

EDIT: Oh, and hi neighbour! ^^

    Hi ^^,
first thanks for the quick reply, sure I will go to Rivendell, and Lothlorien when I will be able to. I'm the kind of person that spends a lot of time looking at scenery, even when on quest ^^ can't wait to see how those places looks.
I was thinking about going VIP, can expansions be purchased with TP? I would love to get them.
And since you are so kind I'll ask another thing, are there some guides on how to proper roleplay an elf? Or some suggestions, just to be prepared in case (first time I play an elf ^^)

Hi there, welcome to Laurelin. I hope your enjoying the realm and all it has to offer.

There was a good guide by someone called Andarne, but he has removed it when i went to look. But if you follow this link there is still some nice info to be gleaned there.

Not sure if it's the absolute latest before his site vanished, but it's been updated more recently than that one, at least, and no missing parts.

Don't worry I bet my english accent is funny too

I'll look for kins hoping to find a good one, to be honest I don't mind if kin is italian or english, what is important is to have fun after a long day at work (and family duty, if some of you have young kids you know what i mean).

    Hi! I’m a lore-lolling, werewolf-playing, wannabe-in-twilight-for-real, blood sucking, evil vampire arpeeist!!!1eleven

And I’m also a big fat liar. Sorry!

I’ve been roleplaying in one guise or another for many years, ever since the days of taking over mum’s dining table with my battered D&D rule book and worn dice. More recently I’ve played several of the ‘well known’ MMOs and over the years have spend a little time with some not so pretty games but just as much fun in their own way (remember ‘Vampires! The Dark Alleyway’ and Gothador anyone?).

I often play games with my son these days and when Lego Universe recently announced they were pulling the plug I asked friends at work about other family-friendly MMOs. LOTR:O was suggested and given that I’m afflicted with a life-long love of Tolkien how could I resist signing up to try the game out.

I love the game so far. It looks beautiful and even the more complex mechanics remain intuitive, but already lacking for me is the additional layer of immersion to be gained from IC interactions with complete strangers and soon-to-be-friends.

I’ve had a browse through the forums over the last few days and was pleasantly surprised to find that not only is there a strong RP community here but that it appears to be actively encouraged (as opposed to being totally ignored by a certain other MMO who threw all RP considerations aside in order to preserve the loyalty of paying morons a couple of expansions ago).

And so I find myself with another character starting on another realm, where I look forward to bumping into some like-minded players and an assortment of characters with whom I hope to engage soon.
