    Whats the most fun class?

Yeah I know a 'dumb' question.

But what would you say is the most fun? I have 35 Guardian and a 20 Hunter and its likely i'll start a fresh elven hunter simply because thats the most enjoyable concept.

But in terms of actually being fun to play?

By fun to play I mean doesn't take alot of thought when grinding and can usually win fights against NPCs without much difficulty or time, but still being able to shine in a group situation.

For example 'Retribution Paladin' would be my example from that other game. Chops things up with good damage and no waiting around or real likelihood of getting killed unless you have an exceptionally bad pull.

Re: Whats the most fun class?

    Depends on what you like.

I have a hunter, champion and rk. they are all fun to play, it just depends on your style. For me, i like killin stuff so i have 3 dps classes, yet healing is fun so i made a rk, the hybrid.

Even though i havent tried it, the OP Guardian is probably the most fun and might be my 4th character after i level up my second rk. this assumption is based on the moors, and my hunter is "squishy".

But, you know, what ever works for you.

They are all fun. And I'm being serious when I say that.

You want to play a Hunter next? Go for it.

Well the curse of the tank and alt fixation is that my ShieldMaidenofBree is stuck with brown hair and brown eyes and I continually wonder if Guardian can really keep pace on damage per second for solo farming. What I call the curse of the tank or curse of the Hybrid (Which may confusingly be a specialist) is that you wonder if going against your classes nature, or having a class which has multiple natures makes you wonder if you wouldn't be having greater success with a damage specialist, for example.

Re: Whats the most fun class?

I've leveled all 9 classes to 65. The slowest going was a guard and a minstrel, but that's because I did it before they added Overpower and Warspeech. But even then, it wasn't that much slower. Now, I imagine they are all fairly fast.

Current fastest? Probably Hunter. It's not just DPS, because and RK or champ might even be a fraction faster there. But there's a lot of running around, and Hunter Fast Travel is hard to beat. Warden should be mentioned too for the same reasons, but they have fewer ports than the hunter.

But all classes have a mode where they are decent now.

Re: Whats the most fun class?

You might try the warden. You can't just put them on auto attack though and leave the room. Warden can hot heal themselves and self port and tank. The fact that they can't wear heavy armor isn't a big deal because of their mitigation. They are good end game tanks(but you need to learn your gambits and some might find that not easy, you might like it though) and they are good soloers.

A guardian is pretty much unkillable unless you are being simply silly with them but they kill slow, except in overpower stance.

Captain is going to be closest to your paladin example but they don't have wonderful dps(unless you trait for it, and attend the keyboard, you aren't going to walk away and kill an army)

You might also consider the Loremaster. Yes, they are light armor wearers, but they have pets that actually do damage and they can cc and dps. It's not the tank you are looking for, but depending on where you place the loremaster, he/she is much more likely to live(with a pet on aggro) if you need to afk for a minute for something.

For me, personally, I enjoyed the Lore-Master the most. That Crowd Control was invaluable rolling through the landscape quests. You are squishy at the lower levels, true, but at the later levels you have to practically be trying to get yourself killed, you're that tough.

    I like my Hunter.

    + High damage
    + Decent cc
    + Convenience of teleports
+ I can shoot lasers or fire using oils
+ Woodsman/ranger archetype, a personal favourite of mine

    ---

And think about it. People always ask the same questions "What's the most fun" "What's the best class" etc. Obviously everyone wants to play the most fun and powerful class. And if that class truly existed, everyone would be playing it right? Unless you wanted to be that unique snowflake. So what class is generally regarded as the most played in LOTRO?

    HUNTERS.

Yes that's right, it's time to roll another Hunter! In fact, your choice of Elf is even better, because that's the race of choice for a lot of Hunter players as well! Obviously there must be something about that combination that makes it even more fun and powerful than it already is

Note: I'm a Hobbit Hunter ~ And from that other game, I went from Ret to Feral to Enhance before settling down to Survival and Marksman

Kudos to you for actually defining what you mean by "fun to play"! Most people who ask this question don't bother to define it.

There's no real "bang forehead on keyboard" class in this game. I've been able to play all the classes I've tried in Zombie mode, but only when grinding below-level mobs. Captains can do it even when they come in groups, while RKs, Minstrels, and Burglars all need to be more careful when fighting more than 2 at a time.

All classes play differently in groups than alone. Captains provide great group buffs that seem to make group content go smoother, though a well-played Burglar can have that effect as well.

The changes to Minstrel upcoming for Isenguard may make brain-dead playing more difficult; though perhaps if you are in Warspeech for soloing it's really all the same stuff.

So I think I would encourage you to try out Captain or Guardian and see if that's what you like. Just make sure you don't play your Captain like ANY kind of Paladin... while they have some similarities, they greatly diverge as you gain skills.

    Hear here!

I have one of every class... and I like them all. Some for similar reasons, some for different reasons.

By fun to play I mean doesn't take alot of thought when grinding and can usually win fights against NPCs without much difficulty or time, but still being able to shine in a group situation.
You actually defined the hunter. They can kill fast, have some ok crowd control, and when played well, are very helpful to a group. (NOTE: playing well in a group is very different than playing well solo, for almost evey class). They also don't take a lot of thought when just grinding up the kill rates. 1. Target 2. Use Focus 3. Use three skills in order "123" 4. Next target

The other one like that is the Champion. Run up - schwing schwing - dead mob - next. But they take more running around to get from target to target during "the grind" until level 20, when they can finally use a bow to pull. Also has to think differntly in group play than solo play, but very useful when played well in a group.

Re: Whats the most fun class?

For me personally, Burglar was actually the most fun to play. Problem is, I could never slap together a character concept that a) wasn't trite and obvious, and b) had a reason to leave Bree. Being a concept player, my burgs all prematurely died on the vine.

Maybe things are different now, but back then (couple years ago) my burg could solo pretty well; one- or two-shot the first mob, and juggle the others with CC until I could put 'em down. Took some thought initially, but it wasn't hard to develop a sense of timing.

...getting the urge to play one as I write this... hrmmm...

Well, I've been playing for only a week now and I have experience with two classes only: captain and hunter.

I can honestly say that there's no contest, hunter wins hands down.
Mind you, a race also plays a huge role in one's gameplay enjoyment and hobbits are tough to beat.
    Men, meh.

Re: Whats the most fun class?

For me, the fastest was the Hunter - it also is a lot of fun in my opinion.
But - again for me - I have the most fun with my burglar.

Champion had its ups and downs for me - felt better after lvl 40, but I was a bit disappointed with the skill I got between 40 and 50.

Captain: dunno ... I've had one for years and he's still only 33. In contrast to that, I started a guardian a couple of days ago an he's 24 now ...

My favorite is rk for a lot of reasons. Ive been leveling a hunter lately and its a ball as well. A capt is another of my favorites but you gotta group a lot to enjoy. They are so uber in group (no one will notice just get over that). They solo ok pet can tank a bit (you cant self heal without traits but you can and should heal your pet if tanking) but the fun is in a group.

Re: Whats the most fun class?

So far, I've found burglar to be quite slow, probably due to the need for crits to access the better skills. I still like the class, but some might find it annoying. Hope that helps.
