Since Friday is "best of the week" on Stern and I'm tired of listening to the same freaking 3 clips over and over, I'm taking the continuing inspiration from this thread to revisit music. I may be verbose, but I have nowhere near the talent for ridiculousness and inventive storytelling as Flesh does, so my posts here are boring by comparison. These are just some damn fine tunes.

Some of the things that have come up thus far...

Ask most folks where they come from and they'll spout some names of places you wouldn't have heard of a few hundred years ago. We all come from bloodlines. That blood still runs deep. Most folks take to a certain religion or social sect to cover up their true heritage. They are too afraid of claiming or even embracing their true origins. These people are lost. Forever searching for an image of their true identities. These people go through their lives living the lie. They appear to be content and prosperous, but they are empty inside. They live and die a lie. I especially feel bad for those in America of an African/Native descent. Forced to embrace a white man's religion for survival. I wish that there was a secret society for these peoples kinda like the Freemasons. I wish there was a hidden record of history, music, theology and culture for these peoples for the day when they can shed the shackles of slavery for good.

There are only a few pieces of music that act as a conduit between myself and my anscestors. I am truely blessed that my anscestors were badass enough for this kind of music to evolve and thrive from countless centuries ago. These 3 embody my heritage as I see it. Sure, some of it has been convoluted and thrown into the stewpot to come out as something which is totally different, but it's soul endures. These 3 embody some virtues in which I hold dear. These virtues have been engrained in my soul. My programmed beliefs and actions even make some of my own kin uneasy. They are content with the lie. They do not want to be reminded of it. If you live in a world in which you can not truely be yourself you are not living. You are the slave.

I hate the 9-5. We are free-roaming animals. I laugh at those who allow themsleves to be imprisoned in a cubicle. Money is your master. You gladly give up sustainance for the soul for some $. Pathetic. I did the suit and tie thing. Total waste of time. Trying to be someone important. 90% of the people I had to deal with deserved to be immediately destroyed.

Damn I get to talkin a whole lot while drinkin. Don't feel like I am talking down to you or trying to 1up someone. I always speak my mind amongst friends when we are gathered around a grill or a card table. Here are 3 that make me fell like I'm leading a raid against an enemy village or holding off them damned Romans. I am a barbarian through and through. Alive and untamed. Enjoy!

My daughter started college this month and yeah i feel old, lol. The subject of music came up and it got me thinking of what i was listening to in my University days.

husker du-Could you be the one
If Peter Framton's Come Alive was issued to every Middle Schooler in '79, Husker Du was mandatory college dorm poster material in the late 80's, early 90's.

Yeahhh brah! I'm right behind you those were popular tunes when I was in high school *old guy secret handshake*.

Unfortunately my musical appreciation never advanced out of my pre teen antisocial fight the system faze, which I still revel in decades later. (I also harbor a really sh*tty taste in films, or so I've been told)

Bonnie this was the album I was listening to while talking to you & trolling glff, behold:

Everyone loves the Clash (or better), this is after their heyday Mick Jones was gone, but a less known song that invokes the pride and struggle of being English:

And just cause too many Anglo-centric songs, some Americana for you bitches!:

Not many have tasted the thrill of combat. Those that have are reluctant to speak about it. There are many who would say "war is hell". Lots of veterans who do speak about it say that it's the worst experience they have ever been through. That's mostly bs. There are a lot of us who got off on it. You're not supposed to talk about it, but war is exciting. War allows us to be ourselves. There's nothing like stepping over the corpses of those who were firing upon your squad a few minutes ago. Nothing. There's nothing like being cut off from supply for a week or two. Nothing. I've never felt so alive. I'm afraid I never will again. No amount of holidays spent with family or intimate moments spent with my woman can ever compare. I will always long for the days of battle. Here are the next 3 that best describes my nostalgia. Slayer is back in effect. They are the harbingers of reality. These guys saved my life. Enjoy!

Awesome adds, everyone, but where is all the hip hop? I can't help but notice that I'm the only one who has contributed a significant portion of what is a huge player in the music industry. The same guy that brings you Slayer on a regular basis is the same guy that brings you hip hop? What is this world coming to? Get a sturdy table and invite 3 friends over for a game of dominos. Enjoy!

Here's a few from a band called Michael Franti & Spearhead. I don't play this nearly as much as I should. A buddy of mine loves this band and I hear it just about every time I go to his house. It's kinda like Bob Marley meets Lenny Kravitz. Very cool. There is always a hot grill smoking with critters whenever I hear this stuff. It's always awesome when someone else has to tend to a grill besides me. All I gotta do is sit back and get hammered. Then I get to shove smokey flesh into my face. Perfect world! Enjoy!
