    Re: ABC Songbook

Hey, 1 quick request - this song is amazing and would sound good on pretty much any instrument but prolly lute the best... Chapter Four by Avenged Sevenfold is AMAZING just listen to it it's great... I tried figuring it out and i've almost got it but i dunno how to make it abc file and whatnot so, what I could do is put what notes to play (I play guitar, so it's be like tabs..) and u guys could make .abc file out of it? anyway here we go... I'll skip the muted parts because that would be impossible in-game so I'll just put tabs with no muted parts k? Here:

it's gonna be weird looking tabs because i dont have enough time to do it full scale ok so here:It's in Drop D though but I'll still use E as low D so not to confuse u since im not showing every string.

    Intro:E - 0-2-3-------0-7-8---------0-2-3-----------0-7-8----------

    E- 0-0000--0000-0(x8)

    Intro (2)D-------5-------7-5--5-7------5--------2-3---2-3-
    A-5-7-8---8-5-3----8----5-7-8--8-5---1-----3-----(x2)

    ChorusE-0-000-0-000-0-00-3-333-2-222-8-888-8-888-8-88-3-333-2-222-(x2)

    (?)A-5-5-53-0--0--1-1-11-333-(x2)

    B-----------------------8-----------------------------------------
    G---7-10-9-7-5-7--7-10--10-9~10~9---7--7-10-9-7-5--7-10--9-10(x2)
    D-7--------------7------------------10--7------------8-----10----
(This'll be the Verse I suppose)

    Chorus

    (?)

    Verse (x1)

    E-56-0000-56-0000-56-0000-56356-0000-56-0000-56-0000

    Intro

    Intro(2)
#|#= really fast, as in 8|8|8 would be 8th fret 3 times at a 1/16 beat or so.. it's fast.
    A-12-12|12|12|12-10-8-7-7|7|7|7-5-7-8-8|8|8|8-8|8|8|8-8|8|-3-3-3|3|3-2-2-2|2|2 (x4)

Song's over. I skipped the solo at the end cuz that's impossible in game on a lute or whatever lol... If you need the actual file im sure u can find it on the internet or something... Chapter Four by Avenged Sevenfold. It's Amazing. It's Awesome. It's gonna be in LOTRO. Lol. If you wanna hear just the guitar email me and I'll record myself playing it then send u the file. Please, I want this song in game!

I can play that on guitar and was trying to translate it into ABC notation myself . I play it in the key of C though and I seemed to be having trouble putting in a few accidentals. Anyone know how to put accidentals in ABC notation?

Edit: and what exactly do the " | "s do? I think I keep accidentally making chords somehow.
Here's part of the song I'm having trouble with in that way (same song as his but in the key of C):
    A6 B c e f4 c4 f2 ^f2 c4 ^f2 ^e2 a g2 e4|
    A6 B c e f4 c4 f2 ^f4 c4 ^f2 ^e2 a g2 e4|
    d B c d2 c B A B ^G A B2 A ^G2|
    f d e f2 e d|

The "|" denotes a bar, just as in sheet music.

To do accidentals, place ^ before a note to make it a sharp, place _ before a note to make it a flat, and place = before a note to make it natural. One important caution, though - LOTRO doesn't recognize accidentals that duplicate natural notes. For example, you can't do F flat as a note in LOTRO - you have to use E natural. Likewise instead of B sharp you need to use C natural. You also can't mark double sharps or double flats. So if you wanted to do G double-sharp you'd have to use A natural.

Therefore in your example above you're probably having trouble with the E sharps (^e). Change them to =f instead for F natural.

Finally, as mentioned above, the | symbol is just a measure bar for readability purposes. It has no effect on playback; it's just there to make it easier to read the file.

I fixed it but I still have a problem where about half-way through the second line of notes it starts playing the third line at the same time. Also it seems like when I don't separate for example ^f and f or g^ and g, it counts the f or g, for example, as an ^f or ^g. I use abc navigator. Anyone else have this problem?

To dugforum: Yay! Thanks for transcribing that Han/Leia Song. It sounds absolutely wonderful.

And a great big thank you to everyone else pouring thier talents into these converted pieces of music. Much appreciated. Esp for someone who has no musical coordination whatsoever.

Enough to get you to do Yellow Ledbetter? Or maybe a nice Neil Young song like Harvest Moon or Rocking in the Free world?

    Re: ABC Songbook

Hey guys. Just a quick FYI, but I took down some of my arrangements from the thread. After reading some posts and links about musical copyright tonight I figured I should err on the side of caution and remove my arrangements of more recent song titles. Not that I think I committed any major crimes, mind you, but I'd rather remove the posts than unintentionally perhaps step on a composer's toes by posting something they perhaps wouldn't approve of. And besides, when it comes to copyrights it's probably better to be safe than sorry. I'm just posting songs to enhance the game, after all, not to cause trouble. (Not that I got any complaints. I just want to be proactive.)

At any rate, I left the majority of my posts intact since they're older classical music. Plus for the most part my classical music sounded a little better than the modern music. So I'll keep doing classical music and not post modern music for now.

Anyway, catch you guys later. Just thought I'd explain the removals in case someone was curious or was wondering what happened to a particular song. And thanks for the support, in game and out. Later!

Some of the slower Neil Young would probably sound nice. But as I said in the above post, I'm skipping the more recent music for now and sticking to the classical stuff. (Besides which I'm not sure I even have any Neil Young music, so I'm not sure I could do it anyway.)

As long as you're transcribing it by ear, etc and not from purchased sheet music you shouldn't be worried. In that case legally it's your 'interpretation' and not violating copyright.

Actually I'm pretty sure that's not true. Basically only the actual owner of the song is allowed to give someone permission to distribute a new version of the song. It doesn't matter whether you're using sheet music or doing it by ear or whatever because an interpretation by ear is still a version that's derived from the original song. As an example, the guys who made Guitar Hero are extremely good at making cover versions of songs and they can do it pretty much by ear. They're still not allowed to take any song they want and put it in their game just because they learned it by ear. Otherwise any band could distribute any other band's song as long as they're good enough to play it by ear.

Anyway, I'm not a copyright lawyer, so I'm sure there's all sorts of little intricate things I'm not aware of. And since I'm not an expert in this sort of thing I figure it's better to err on the side of me not posting something I'm not sure about. Just my opinion.

Just a few more requests for some show tunes. But these are at least some good standard ones.

    or something from Les Miserables.

Thanks again to all the great transcribers who keep bringing us new music to perform!

I'd like to make another obscure request:

"Never on Sunday" by Manos Hadjidakis (from the movie of the same name)

Actually, there is a fine line regarding music copyrights. Public domain music is perfectly acceptable to use for any purpose you wish. Same for royalty free music. It gets sticky and has been brought forward with the recent use of sampling music. Any more than 8 bars recognized and it becomes a legal matter. Vanilla Ice went through some serious court issues with Ice Ice Baby and the similarity with Queen's Under Pressure. More up to date, Missy Elliot and The Chemical Brothers both had issues with sampled music released under their own names. Remixes done by DJ's who sell music, i.e. Aphrodite, Weird Al, etc... have to obtain permission from the original artists to distribute music for retail gain. Your local tavern DJ who remixes as long as they don't plan to distribute the mixes doesn’t need permissions. Granted there are exceptions to the rules, for instance the forced removal of music video's from Youtube by certain artists. Although the videos were put there for any capitol gain, the publishers and managers of those artists got their knickers bunched up and demand the removal or face legal dealings.

So, best bet is to play it safe as dugforum has done.

    Just my 2 cents.
