A simple sketch. Was meaning to colour it but meh.

For some reason drawing eyes has always come across as easy for me. I don't dare colouring it though, because I'm afraid it'll mess up the picture, lol.

EDIT: Thank you Amorey ^_^. Here is the Coloured version:

    Ooooooh! Pretty!

On a side note, i've discovered DeviantART's Muro. Nice little tool there. Managed to squish these up from scratch

    Beautiful artwork, keep them coming!

@Amorey: I'd love to have some of your artwork on my wall. It is so whimsical and lovely. Perhaps you should think of selling prints at some point?

Wow... What a beautiful picture Ofelie! I am amazed... Makes my thoughts wander when I look at it..

Amorey I am so charmed by your pictures. You have a very distinctive style, I know is you that has made them at once I look at them.

I find myself repeating myself in this thread.. But I am very amazed by all you great artists!

    Keep up the good work.

    Hee,

Guess Picasso was not much of an artist ?
    Or Dali ?
    Or Miro ?
    Or Esher ?
    Or...

I love the different STYLES of the work Laurelin artists have presented here. They are all beautiful in their own special ways... I even include music and screen-shots (photography) in this beautiful mesh of creativity. I hope you all continue to create, because it would be a great loss if you did not...

Without taking any stance whatsoever in that particular offshoot of the conversation, I will point out that all of the aforementioned spent half a lifetime rigorously learning life drawing, anatomy, colour, technique and composition in full realism before branching out to surrealism, dadaism, caricaturing or other exaggerative stylistic directions. They didn't just pick up a pencil and decide to do a few masterpieces. If it were possible, everyone would be an acclaimed artist.
Learning the fundamentals thoroughly is vital if you ever mean to get serious with your art, but it's in such a different ballpark from what most of this thread is covering that it's kind of an unnecessary debate here with people coming from all kinds of walks of life and levels of devotion and experience.
I'll leave it at that, if any aspiring artist wants some serious pointers towards learning the hard way, I'm open to PMs. I'm by no means a master at this, couldn't be further from the truth, but I do digital art as my day job now and I guess that warrants calling myself a professional at this point. I'm willing to share experiences and tips.

This is a light-hearted thread for sharing and appreciating, not for scrutiny and critique.

After a long while I finally produced something I even dare sharing here...

Love Amorey's pictures as usual, the mood is fantastic!
(say, Amorey, where did you learn to watercolour? I've been looking for a good class for ages without luck...)

And as for the discussion, I'm of the opinion that C&C also means "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Criticism is good, but it needs to be constructive.
This is a MMO forum, not a professional artists forum. Any and all skill levels should be welcome and feel safe. I for one like criticism but not everyone does or is even looking for it. And an outright dismissal like the one we are discussing has no place on an art forum or anywhere.

    Re: The Laurelin Art Thread

Nimlith, having watched your progress for a year and a half, I can see your anatomy gradually improving a lot and your linework strokes becoming more confident and loose. I would highly recommend you expand on this by picking up some figure drawing, preferably from life if possible, this would really help you take things to the next level and increase the dynamics in your work.

Actually I would recommend figure drawing for just about everyone anywhere ever. If you don't have live sessions available in your area, this is also a really handy tool (nudity warning): http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I've been extensively using this tool almost every day for at least 15 minutes and it's immensely improved my grasp of anatomy flow and form. The <2 minute cycles are the absolute best, ideally you should spend most of your time looking at the model as opposed to the paper. Pick this up as a daily habit and I can promise you'll double your learning speed. A3+ sized sheets of paper are best for this. You should use your entire arm instead of your wrist for this and I always end up drawing really big and going over edges when I use any smaller size paper.

Ooh, thanks for that link, Ofelie! What a handy site, can't believe I've never heard of it before.

There's a school here offering open nude drawing classes, but I haven't had the time to go there very often I suppose I should see if I can manage to get some sessions in this season!

Onf of the first pictures I drew of Minyelaírë. I am still a beginner in drawing actually. Although I have been drawing all my life, I never took any courses back in school, or sought out any professional advice, nor did I take the time to fully immerse myself into the topic of drawing. I thought to change this a few months ago.

This second picture is not from me, but a from really dear friend, who drew me in ''Minye's skin''.
Just as a comparison of where I stand with my own skills and where I'd wish to go in things style.

Nice to see this forum coming over seas from the CM forums... love all the paintings again i'm impressed by how many skilled artist we have on our server

I'm still looking for someone to make a drawing of my character Faustino...

I suck at drawing, so i call upon my skilled fellow Laureliners

back on the CM forum, someone wanted to make it for me... but he did not got further then a first scrible? (if i may call it like that, not trying to be disrespective)... and i respect that people are busy so no hard feelings but i still want a cool drawing of Faustino, if only to give him a bit more unique features than the standard game mechanic appearance

anyone up for the job, please let me know... thanks a lot in advance!!!

DuroNL, the best way of getting people to draw your character is to RP with them - many of us here draw their friends, or any character interesting enough to inspire and amuse us.
The second best way, of course, is giving those who do commissions money but I don't know if anyone here does commissions right now...

I highly recommend Aeffe for commissions (Of course, Ofelie also awesome!)! She's a very talented artist from WoW who's migrated over to LotRO after being convinced by Erinwyn!

Here is the page where you find most of her art:

Line art. BAD Line art. I have no idea why but the Brush dynamics in GIMP are weird. I get some too-thin lines here and there. Simple bland doodle, but I figured it would be fun looking at brush strokes made in GIMP and brush strokes made in PS.

Oh, and my Art teacher saw my online work today at school! He's recommending me to make an appointment at the Vocational Information Center (Uhh... I don't know the official translation for "Berufsinformationszentrum " aka BIZ :P) because he said he "flipped out" at my artwork, and thinks I could do really well in Professions that involve Art and Literature :3
