Question Can Medallions of the North Men be solo'd?

I received the quest to kill 100 mobs in Ost Dunhoth.
I was told by someone in my Kin that the mobs OUTSIDE of the instance would count toward the hundred needed for 20 medallions and therefore it would be possible [albeit a lengthy process] to collect a tier1 set, solo.

I tried killing 20 or 30 mobs outside of Ost Dunhoth and none of them counted toward the 100 needed. Do you have to kill the Elite Master and Nemesis mobs inside the instance or is this quest broken?

To discover the Ost Dunhoth instance you need to climb up several staircases so I don't really think the mobs outside (and below) count.

Another question is how many runs does that quest actually take - i.e. how many mobs are there inside.
Re-ni-AN-nen - strayed (ppt. of renia- 'to stray')
Aeled Reniannen, Defender of Middle-earth ~ Nendhiniel, Forge-Warden : Captain and Wardenette from [EN-RP] Laurelin
Fluffrash, Blade of Barashish ~ Nathraen, Conqueror of Towers : Warg Puppy and Spider Tailor from the darker side thereof
    Faradwen, Swift-Arrow : Huntress from [EN-RE] Landroval

As if in answer there came from far away another note. Horns, horns, horns. In dark Mindolluin's sides they dimly echoed. Great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come at last.

Yes, the whole thing can be done solo. Not all mobs count; the skeletal wights don't count, but other non-elites do. Keep trying different mobs and you'll find the ones that work.

I think this is the wrong sub-forum for this question, but I'll answer it anyway.

If you are at the doors to Ost Dunhoth, looking at the doors, there will be stairways going down on your left and on your right.

Take the set of stairs down to a middle landing, which has some fleshy wights and some gaunt-lords. Those (and only those) will count towards the quest without actually going into the raid instance.

Soloable? Yes. Bloody difficult, tho. I recommend at least duo-ing it.
