LOL excuse me for not typing a clear message! I was in the mode of trying to support Evendale's effort and trying to think of useful ways people may use his concept. Now that I re-read my post, I jumped from "dps meter" to general concepts without making a clear transition on what I was talking about. Then I thought about how complex this general tracking would be and figured it's a no-brainer for people to see how futile this effort would be. So I did not even bother to remove it.

Glad it's giving you some good laughs.

To be clear, I personally am not for using meters to measure people at all. You can see in most of this thread I was really against the meter. Meep.

On that note: I'm thinking it is indeed good for people like Evendale to work on meters plug-ins. When I saw how cool his plug-in is, the first thing I felt was omg how are the devs ever going to give us real challenging raids now with this powerful plug-in.

So I began to think of how we can maybe find a way to make this useful.... The ideas I was fishing for was to use complex meters to make instanced raids more dynamic. Then DevilDoc pointed out many games are going with dynamic world. His message brought me to read up on mmorpg dynamic worlds. Woot. You know what? I think these plug-ins do help push the games to improve. We go through some growing pains, and then there is the light at the end of this tunnel.

Yea, I've left in the option of displaying text only. The bars are so much smaller now though that you don't really reduce the space taken up by much by only showing text.

You can see incoming dmg by dmg type or dmg source.

There are an enormous number of new features/improvements though. I just need to do a little bit more testing to ensure there aren't any more bugs I'm missing, and then I'll upload it for everyone to see.

Great! Keep pushing those devs to make a better dynamic world.

Woke up thinking about the true meaning of "dynamic world". The implications of stuff you are doing is enormous. /cheer

    Absolutely amazing.

This is the best plugin ever made for Lotro.

Even, your new 'floating' numbers for heal/pwr/dmg that is over 600, I hope to see an update to this feature where I could adjust the numbers and length of the float.

    Example:
Any heal under 1k would float for a second, then move on.
Any heal 1000-1999 would float for two seconds, then move on.
Any heal over 2000 would float for three seconds.

Any dmg taken under 1000 would float for 1 second then move on.
Any dmg taken between 1000-1999 would float for 2s then move on
Any dmg taken over 2000 would float for 3s then move on
Any distributed dmg done regardless of value would float for 3s then move on.

I could then disable most of the combat effect stuff in game and have a true scrolling combat text addon in addition to the many other options this plugin provides.

Thanks for all the hard work dude. Amazing.

Yea, eventually I'll get around to making it adjustable.

I was thinking something like this would be most useful:

Also scrollable so you can go back in time and see who didn't heal you :P

I don't have any time to work on it atm though, so unless you can find someone else who wants to do this its gonna be a long way off.

Looking forward to the new version, though I guess the midnight oil is real and truly being burnt dealing with the significant upgrade to the combat logs in the last patch. They actually seem to contain some useful information now *gasp*

No intention of trying to use this in group play. Mostly want to understand my own DPS output and assess what type of damage different characters take in different scenarios.

Yeah, I'm using it strictly as an incoming damage parser. I really don't see how a single, isolated DPS figure can be of any use as a diagnostic tool, but it seems I'm in the minority with that opinion.

If I had the programming knowhow, I'd try my hand at making a real parser. Unfortunately, I don't think I can even program in BASIC anymore, let alone in C++ or whatever people use now.

Yea, atm I basically have it working out of game (parsing), but not in game. Assuming I don't encounter any issues with loading in the ridiculously large amount of information that is going to be made available now (full breakdown of dmg/heals/etc by skill, and with avoidance/crit stats for totals as well as per category/skill, etc.), its possible I might have something ready by the end of the weekend, but no promises.

Great work Evendale, it looks like an extremely user-friendly Plugin. However I'm really hoping you don't have a feature to post results to chat. That can start what I call The Path of MMO Doom. If everyone used a dps meter that could post to chat, that would inevitably lead to calls for a fellowship vote to kick function or raid/fellowship leaders kicking players with low dps. I'm fine with DPS meters being used for personal improvement or testing with no posting to chat, but when DPS meters with chat posting become widespread there is the potential for a lot of negativity in the community. A large part of LotRO's charm is the way there is a lot of mystery with how much threat you have, how much damage/healing you are doing and that's why I hope a meter never becomes part of the official UI.

    Re: Best dps meter available

I was just starting to look for dps meters and healing addons for lotro, and I found this thread. My own reason for looking was just so I could see the numbers and know I was pulling my weight in an instance. But, after reading this thread and thinking about it, If the majority of the community feel they aren't neccesary, then thats good enough for me. I know I'm no slouch at gaming, so I'll just do my best and be happy with that. I'd also like to say that from what I've read in the forums and encountered so far in-game, the level of maturity and friendliness of lotro players is very encouraging (insert WoW nightmare experience here). I think I'm going to like this community.

is there any way that this plugin could automatically store the data as a .xls or .csv or something? It's so annoying to either have to manually enter the data into a spreadsheet or lose heaps of valuable data every time you log off. Is this at all possible? it'd be an awesome feature.
