The website is an incredibly basic place holder... but at least it gives you access to your work, so please hold back on any criticisms for now; We know what needs to be done.
Wonderful to see that the songs themselves are online.

*grins* definitely basic- even nothing for the search bugs to catch yet. I had to type in the url in the search bar to get anything up XD

I'll let folks know that, at the least, the songs themselves are up online.

I cannot wait to see the final product. Thank you, Figgy.

To be fair, he has been dealing with illnesses (his mom's and his own), update 9 stuff and the general Holiday crush.
The navigation throughout the LotRO site is horrible. You can quote me on that.

    Unhappy

That temporary site was working, but I am also having trouble getting it to work now

Did they get the new site up or is it just bugged right now?

  8. #58
It's working fine for me! Ruu said he'd had to update the server because the traffic is pretty high which is nothing but good news imho. That may have been why you were having problems a few days ago. Is it working ok now?

Updates will be coming soon (tm). I have no control over how soon, but they're in the works.

So let me get this straight, is the site only a placeholder or can we actually get files from it?

    The files are actually there.

What you'll want to do is create a blank text document (ie. *.txt) or abc file (ie. *.abc), then copy the song info (that is, everything from "X:1" to the end of the text) from the web page and paste it into the file. Put that file in your music folder and name it appropriately.

    Cool TFL

    Hi All,

Quick update, because I think I've been pretty anonymous in this so far.

I'm currently hosting/running the placeholder site, and very slowly, but very steadily, working on the new site.

At this point I'd love to thank you all for the activity on www.thefatlute.eu - we're averaging over 60,000*** page views per month, from almost 2,000*** unique visitors. Stunning!

The new site is almost ready (has been for some time, but just haven't been able to make time to complete it) for some 'beta' testing, but I just took a new job a few months ago, and I have a lot of other bits and pieces going on in real life also at the moment. It was pretty much ready around the time that Sapience (we love you really...) announced that the API was being dropped, so that set me back a bit trashing a load of code which I'd set up to integrate with it. Used this as an opportunity to have a bit of a clear-out of some obsolete code also.

    tl;dr:

    It's not died,
It's almost ready (really... I promise!)
Nice visitor stats on the placeholder - you guys rock.

    ~Ruu.

***EDIT: Just checked the stats, last 30 days:- 2,102 people visited this site, Pageviews: 72,579.

Thumbs up The Fat Lute is still there - http://www.thefatlute.eu/

Just wanted to register my thanks for having kept thefatlute running in some fashion. It's what I cut my lotro musician teeth on. I have since found the FeFe Converter (which is also in a process of transition) and am doing my own conversions now. Nevertheless, thefatlute is what got me going in the first place and gave me my first glimpse into the world of abc music. Lotro music making seems to be on the rise and I'm sure thefatlute will inspire many other newby lotro musicians! Please keep up the good work!

I tried to go to http://www.fatlute.eu today and I got the Oops Google Chrome could not find... Is it temporarily down or is it down for good? Cuz this is/was my favorite abc music file site. If it's down temporarily when will it be back up?

I'm afraid you're right, Zaelocke. Hopefully it is just in the transition process that Ruu was mentioning earlier in July.

In the meantime, if you haven't already found this link, here's a place where you can find links to other abc sources: http://lotromusic.mymiddleearth.com/resources/

If you'd like to be adventurous and try to make your own abc tunes, there are a couple of midi converter programs available:

http://firefern.rklotro.com/? (this is a powerful program but has a bit of a high learning curve)

https://code.google.com/p/lotromidiplayer/ (I find this nice for making solo or 2 part tunes)

And finally, if you do not have it, get the ABC Player so you can listen to your creations outside the game (so you don't have to go into and try out your new tune and possibly get embarrassed):P

When creating your own abc tunes, note that not all midi's are created equal and some sound much better than others.

What's the status of this project? I've been following this situation for quite some time and may be interested in taking charge of some of this if not all of it. I've got a dedicated box with a lot of room on it and have been a fan of what the site offers for quite some time. I'm also a web developer and if the website is no longer being worked on or the project was abandoned, I might be able to offer up an alternative so that the community as a whole has this resource available to them as it once was.
You can message me through the forums for details. Thanks.
