I've been lurking on and off, just not had a ton to say. Life is crazy sometimes. Thanks for noticing and saying.

Only other idea I have is standing behind a dwarf after too many coney stews. But of course I don't really have any text to back that up...

Is it the breeze from the south that blew the darkness away in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields?

Is it referring to the Frodo's night above Woodhall with the elves? Gildor said something like "Do not give unguarded advice, for advice is a dangerous gift". Breeze can mean advice. Rapid could mean unguarded?

I'm getting a bit hung up on breeze. It would help if I knew your nationality, because American English and British English use breeze quite differently. If you're going LOTR text it would be British which can be used for more like a puff of air, or a spoken word. American English can be a steady soft wind.

Would it perhaps refer to the storm that happened during the fall of Numenor, when the wind broke the masses and sails of Elendil's ships when trying to escape? Or is that too violent of wind to what you're thinking?

Not that violent, but more along those lines.

I'm looking for a specific phrase here.

    Still no.

The first word of the phrase is "rushing."

Ancalagon The Black basically translates into "Black Rushing Jaws" though I'm still thinking in terms of translations I guess. Alagos is a violent rushing storm, but I'm having trouble placing that in any specific event.
Rathlóriel the river in Ossiriand was originally called, Ascar before the treasures of Doriath were cast into it. This was translated loosely as the rushing mist or breeze.

Am I stinking of desperation yet?

Your answers are along the right lines, but still no. It's in The Two Towers somewhere.
